[censored] off Howe. You feel sorry for that thug??? Oh my god. Youโ€™re a bigger piece of [censored] than I thought you were. How about feeling sorry for Gus? What a despicable person you are.ย

I told you he has become an anti Melbourne arseh-le.

Howe is one of my least liked players now.

ย

Any potential appeal aside, if we donโ€™t come out and steamroll the Blues (on the scoreboard, of course, because we wonโ€™t get any favours at the tribunal) on Friday so we can then have a chance to play the Pies in the GF then weโ€™ll never have enough motivation because even last yearโ€™s straight sets exit wasnโ€™t enough to come out breathing fire on Thursday.ย

We have to do this. Only way we get any justice is we make it to the GF and smash the pies. And Gus is there, holding up the cup, and grinning from ear to ear, right at the Collingwood army.ย

You need to smother Cripps ribs, as they are broken. He is playing with broken ribs.

Donโ€™t say that. The purity police will say itโ€™s not nice ๐Ÿ™„

I suspect we've all watched a lot of football over the years. With that people have seen a lot of smothers executed. Lets say on average there has been say 5 smothers a game. Thats over 1000 smothers in a football year.

Has anyone ever in their life of watching football seen an attempted smother end with a bloke knocked unconscious for 2 minutes. Serious question. I've seen some great goal saving smothers. Ones where the smotherer has got kicked or hit with the footy and everyone refers to the players bravery. Sometimes the kicker gets a sore foot or corky as their kicking action gets impeded. Ones where the player gets a fingertip to the ball and turns a goal into a point.

Just a couple of points here. Brayden did none of these. He didn't touch the ball. But he didn't miss Brayshaw. Plan B was executed perfectly. People have mimicked what Brayden said on the night that it was a "football act". But in all my hours of watching football I've never seen this before.ย

Conclusion. This wasn't a "football act". It was thuggery. Pure and simple.ย

The worst part is next week when Collingwood take to the field he, Maynard, will get clapped and cheered every time he goes near the ball. For the thuggery he commited.ย

Terrible AFL, I mean what an outcome.

If you are playing the ball, a duty of care to those around you is now unnecessary. The defense of in the motion of a "football act" has a precedence. As Number 4 said, he did not take a collision with Gus into account.

Will give Viney, Sparrow and other inside bulls a licence to not worry about the pain they inflict.

Thatโ€™s what is bizarre

It was barely mentioned at all?

Whatโ€™s up with that? Are they seeking to remove duty of care?ย

As long as they jump in the air first feigning a smother / spoil Kev.... then yes

Each to their own.

Id run through the bastards.

Im not sure you understand this game, what is involved...the tactics used, the instructionsย  given.

Are you naive enough to think a ridiculous event that took out a prima-player ...just happenedย  ??

You think Cox jumping into Max is just...footy-stuff ( well actually it is..ironicallyย  ).

Its a a very physical game.. its not for the faint hearted.ย  It can get very argy bargy... but even with all that...there's a line.

They crossed itย  ย Quite frankly [censored] them.

ย

What point do you think youโ€™re making?ย

ย

JVR is now fair game given itโ€™s a:

โ€˜very physical game, not for the faint hearted. It can get very argy bargy, even with all that, thereโ€™s a line. They crossed it.โ€™

ย

JVR got suspended for an act outside of the game, so he literally crossed a line of the rules.ย
ย

Before you reply with โ€˜well Maynard crossed the line and he DIDNT get suspended!โ€™ Well I agree with you! If should have gotten suspended!

That has nothing to do with my point of not reacting emotionally and wishing injury to other players in the team that didnโ€™t do the act.ย
ย

Itโ€™s not hard to understand the hypocrisy of that response if you stop, and think, for 2 seconds.ย

That is a terrible decision

He intended no harm, ย but he did not exercise due care. He should have known that jumping at a player running straight at him was very likely to result in that players serious injury.ย

And he didnโ€™t even smother the ball!

The AFL has to appeal. It has to. If it wants to help its own defence against not doing enough to protect players from head injury, it must fight this. It must fight for the next payer running selflessly towards goal in the spirit of the game, as Brayshaw was.ย

its not about whether it was a โ€˜dog actโ€™ or a deliberate intent to harm, โ€ฆ it wasnโ€™t. Itโ€™s about was it a tackle or smother that reasonably considered the well being of the other player. It was an excessively high risk move that could never have ended safely for Brayshawย

I am very upset about this decision. It shows the decision makers are in a different world, a different time. ย Where is the AFL players association?ย

Sad day for CTE outcomes.

The conflict here is breathtaking. If you choose to bump out or tackle and get someone in the head you're suspended. But somehow spoiling is now a free shot at an opposition player.ย

ย

Only the corrupt AFL could come up with this bastard of an interpretation

This farce is proof that it is swooping season for magpies and that they really are a protected species.

Reckon we can slip this past the censors for the banner? Enough plausible deniability? Yeah, probably not.

Letโ€™s see if Laura Kane has the balls to put this boys club farce of a league in its place.ย

Yep, the AFL have to appeal and if we believe that Michael Christian was overuled by Gil, Laura & Dillon, then they have to see things through

Otherwise, it will just look like a load of bs.ย  And my faith will be reversed especially in the case of Dillon & Laura (I don't have any time for the Commission & Gil)

O'Farrell (Blues) brings up Jacob van Rooyen's bump of Dan McStay, which was graded medium impact rather than high as in Martin's case.

ย

"It's not possible to understand why when you look at the footage."

The very last thing we need to do on Friday is be overly emotionally charged.ย  Just play the ball hard and not get jumped because we are thinking about things that can't change. Looking at the players reaction last Thursday night - attending to Brayshaw, rolling him into the recovery position, it's no wonder we got jumped.ย  At that point it was 2 goals to one.ย  We lost ourselves for the rest of that quarter and that was the game.ย  Total focus for every second of the game will get us the result.

If we should meet them in the GF, I expect the Dees to be breathing fire!

Carlton is a shrewd club who would be incensed at being the second case of theย  night .The club knows that there case is show trial number 2 only in this case the Tribunal will be out to slot them to save face over Maynard .Good strategy to limit the argument to reduced penalty.

I interpret it as, solely attacking the ball (give no consciousness to anything else). Do that and collateral all over the place, and no consequences to self.

I've disagreed with you on many frontsย @Superunknownย but i reckon I'm done after this year also.

Better things to spend my $550 a year reserved seating membership on than watching absolutely thuggery in front of my eyes.

Soccer Australia and their hierarchy must be rubbing their hands with glee the amount of young kids that will be heading towards the world game via their parents after this decision.

Hamish Brayshaw hit the nail right on the head the AFL want Collingwood in the GF with Carlton.

This is only the first domino to fall, Martin will get off with a fine also.

Agree with you about spending $550 to watch a frustrating game with [censored] โ€œrulesโ€ and terrible umpiring decisions.Run by an incompetent mob - the AFL. An organisation that has sold out to Channel 7 who decide the fixturing .Why is our game on Friday night at such a late hour - instead of 2.15 on Saturday? And then there are the tv commentators- l turn the volume off. I will shut up now.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, weโ€™ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: โ€œThen came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.โ€ Today, weโ€™re back in the same place although oneย difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, โ€œIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, โ€ฆโ€ย  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
