O'Sullivan is rated number 10 in most draft orders that I have seen. He’s also the second best KPD prospect in the draft. Assume Walters, Reid and Sanders go to 10 to their academy clubs that bring O’Sullivan into 7 so not much of a reach for us. GWS and Cats could pounce if we let him slip past our pick.

seems really mobile and could be similar to a mark blicavs where he could play anywhere

My ideal off-season would be as follows:

- Trade for Mabior Chol to be our ruck/forward (44 goals in 2022 show he is no slouch)

- Trade Grundy for pick 22 and then look for a cheap back up ruck option (Hayes or Flynn spring to mind)

- Utilise our picks pick 13, 22, 24, 34 and future first to end up with two top 10 picks and ideally another within 20 this year

- Draft one of McKercher, Duursma or Sanders with our first pick

- Draft O'Sullivan with our next pick

- Draft a classy ball user with our 3rd pick and Kynan Brown with a later pick

- Trade a 3rd rounder to Adelaide for McAdam

There will be other players that I'm sure will pop up, but that to me is the key things we need to address.

Oh and I would not be trading Tomlinson and plan to play him with Lever and May next season and a forward line with Petty, JVR and Chol.

How about Levi Casboult for a season or two while we're in the window? 

Still very durable with 21 senior games for the Suns in 2022 (35 goals) and 20 games in 2023 (24 goals). Likely to be starved of opportunity up there with Jed Walter coming on board. Better option than either of Brown or TMac imo and wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. Handy ruck insurance for an injury to Gawn, too.

I'm not that enamoured with Chol and think he lacks effort and desperation. I think GC will be happy to unload him given the talent coming in and the amount of time he spent in the VFL. I wouldn't be surprised if the coin he's on is somewhat inflated. We would have to match said coin.

Agree that we need to desperately bring in a ruckman. My choice would be Fullerton (ruck/forward), O'Brian or Flynn but haven't seen much of Sweet. A big pass on Hayes. He has no tank and should have catapulted Lycett into retirement by now, but is still used only sparingly in emergencies after 7 years at the club.

I expect Tommo to be told to explore his options again. He may get lucky otherwise he's a Dee in '24.

I agree with your draft priorities and am very excited by what JT and the team can conjure up.

An interesting approach you've taken. Players don't change draft positions. What happens is Club picks are pushed back firstly as free agency compensation is inserted, and then father/son & academy players are bid on and bids matched. So if as expected compensation for Ben Mackay comes in at 3 all picks after that are pushed back one position. Assuming Jed Walter comes in at 2 then our Pick 5 becomes Pick 6 pre-draft and slides back one further spot to Pick 7 on Draft Night. Gold Coast's Pick 4 becomes Pick 6. Do we want to use Pick 7 for O'Sullivan when he's rated as Pick 10?

Everyone is talking about Swans using Pick 22 for Grundy but in reality that pick could end up as low as Pick 28 on Draft Night. We used Pick 27 to get Grundy in. I can't track exactly where that ended up last year with all the pick swaps but there were 3 father/sons & 1 North Academy selection in the Top 17 so I assume that 27 ended up at the equivalent of 31.

I appreciate it's only at VFL level but Chol kicked 5.4 yesterday in the Prelim against Box Hill. 16 disposals, 11 marks, 2 tackles.

I’m aware of the above SD. Perhaps I should have maybe worded it differently. The point I was making is that with North possible getting pick 3 and possible 3 academy players before O’Sullivan. Our pick is pretty close to where he’s rated. 
The poster I was replying to wondered if we may have been taking him too early.

It's the midfield depth / class & the question mark over who is actually going to be the third pillar next to May & Lever next year, which are bigger issues.

I'd actually be keeping Tomlinson and telling him it's his spot to lose unless a Turner or an Adams comes out and has the pre-season of a lifetime, but I don't think Goody rates Tommo. 

I think we’ll want to get Tomlinson out for salary cap reasons if someone will take him and then look for a cheaper depth defender. (Who knows it could be Oscar McDonald 😂)

Turner will be better next year IMO and really needs to play AFL. And while I hope we commit to Petty as a forward all season and start Smith forward, we have some flexibility.

A mate of mine is a saints man and says he's an absolute liability with ball in hand. Haven't seen enough of him myself but I trust his judgement of players in general.

Absolutely down with this if we can snare two picks inside that top 7 or 8 players. McKercher looks the one for me in terms of bringing a new dimension to our midfield. Classy, clean skills, Zach Merrett type. Perfect. I suspect Duursma will be taken by the Hawks before we get a look in. 

O'Sullivan as a May understudy and eventual replacement makes absolute sense. Love the look of the kid from the video clips I've seen.

As flashy and exciting as he might be, I would steer clear of Nick Watson. You just have to be soooo good at that height to excel at AFL level. Maybe at pick 12 - 18 but I wouldn't be burning a chance to nab a prime on-baller or gorilla minding full-back with top ten picks. They're just too hard to find otherwise.

Another left field suggestion - John Noble from the Pies. Played most of the season but can’t crack it for a spot in their finals 22. Pretty handy player I reckon. Wouldn’t be a perfect like for like replacement for Hibberd but maybe we could do with a bit more dash coming out of the back half. 2023 was Noble’s best season to date - averaging 21 disposals and 5.5 marks. 26yo, with 92 games under his belt. Capable of playing up on the wing as well.

Moves a whole lot better when the ball is on the ground than Harris thankfully, but doesn’t high point the ball in the air like Harris.

Ethan Read is the best key back in this draft, forget the fact that he’s a ruck as a junior. He could be a good forward/ruck or a very good ruck, but he can be a great CHB because he reads and reaches for the ball perfectly.

O’Sullivans handballing and movement with the ball on the deck is freakish for a tall. Very good athlete. Good enough kick. Reads the play well.

But if you watch closely in aerial contests he doesn’t mark or cleanly spoil overhead with the proficiency you’d expect for a 198cm with good movement. That’s why he’s 7-10 not 3-7 draft range.

Same knock on Curtin. Heck of a back flanker, not all that flash as a key tall. Should be developed as a midfielder.

Lever is missing as discussed and so is Langdon. Yes he had a below par year and needs to get back to his best but he's still in the best 22.  You've got too many forwards - 9 if you're playing Petracca forward and counting Chol as fwd-ruck.
