Many commentators have claimed knowledge of Grundy going to Port Adelaide.

Wasn't he from SA originally?

Yes he is originally from SA but is settled in Melbourne and wanted to stay in Victoria. That may have changed now but who knows.

As an aside he recently moved into the suburb where I live and he has been around quite a bit naturally. Stating the obvious but he is absolutely huge as all these guys are when you see them up close.

Interesting news if true.

I'm a big Gresham fan and truly believe his development has been stunted due to St Kilda's poor development over the years.

His numbers as a midfield forward certainly stacks up well and could add some genuine X factor to our side.

I’d be keen on Gresham if he didn’t cost much since he’s on the outer this year under Lyon. It wasn’t that long ago he was basically Saints best player or close to. I had him in a work supercoach league competition and kept a close eye on him. He’s a good forward mid whose past year or two have been derailed by injury and clashing with Lyon as a coach. If his body is right, change of scenery could see him return to his best. When healthy and in form, he’s an upgrade on Nibbler, Chandler, Spargo etc. Will listen with interest.

Yes you are correct. I was careless in typing. They believe Gresham will end up at Melbourne as part of the whole wash up. How they come to that conclusion I don't know.

However I think them wanting Grundy makes sense from their point of view.

what role would he play for us? he doesn't have the running capacity of anb as an example, and i don't see him as a gut-running wingman a la langdon or hunter

i'm not convinced his ball use is that good either, as per @DistrACTION Jackson's stats above

I would have thought that they are one club that don’t need him with Motlop, Owies, Durdin, Cunningham, Fogarty etc.

I think he's a better mid-forward than the rest. But he would join the one too many ball butchers club for them however.

Jason Taylor has an impeccable record with mids, not just the players we've drafted but the ones he has coveted e.g. Butters, Humphrey. I have total faith he'll have a definite view on Reid and other possibilities like Duursma.  We will actually be in a position to execute on his plan with the Freo pick.

It will be interesting to see where Curtin is expected to fall and that will influence WC. North have a lot of mids and he may appeal to them more than say McKercher, especially if they succeed in their bid for Sanders. They may have two picks before our Freo pick too via McKay.

Duursma - smokey No.1 - talent to learn, versatility to apply to several roles, good footballing blood.

If I'm stkilda I'm wanting Carlton to make the contract offer a 800k size one to Gresham to take it to tier 1, so my compo will be straight after my first round pick at what I think will be pick around pick 9 or 10. Might be the condition that they don't match, as he's RESTRICTED FA

Then I'm offering those two picks and next year's 1st for Reid in the Reid-stakes.

LOL.

Bringing this thread back on topic people!!!!

Gresham would spell trouble for Bill Laurie.

Questionable disposal at times & has exhibited some very selfish behaviour at times (or self-preserving) but his agility & evasion can be elite.

I think he’d cost more than we’d want to pay however.

Reading between some not too subtle lines I think they're trying to get rid of him 'Mach'...

Probably for some of the reasons you've mentioned above.

I that case would we be interested, not sure he's a Goody type.

Word I am hearing is the Saints will make a play for Grundy so Marshall can spend more time forward. They want to send Gresham to us as part of the trade.

Whilst I see this, do you think Grundy would go for that pitch again?

Gresham is a hack, we should avoid big time!

If Grundy goes to Port they have a Collingwood (ironically) 2nd round pick which would be good or I would be interested in Georgiades if they take on Grundy's full contract!!

If we can get him without selling the farm, it is going to be very hard for JT to not do the deal.

Noted the comments in his last senior country game of the the other teams’ coach. “Harley  destroyed us on his own and won the game for his team”.

Then you read that a couple of AFL recruiters are saying he is the best kid they have seen.

I can see a very busy DL post season, hopefully with us as Premiers.

He can do it all I reckon.

Some of those fend offs feel more like Trac fend offs than Dusty fend offs. They're less about simply bullocking through a contest, but giving himself time to cleanly feed off by hand.

He's a smooth mover though and looks super dangerous one out in the forward half. That to me is very Trac, and even very Dangerfield.

Imagine our team with Reid. Wowee.

I’m almost of the opinion that he’s worth it even if we do sell the farm 👀

Elite talent wins you flags and if Reid is truly a cut above the rest of the draft crop, I’d rather go all in on trying to get pick 1 than trying to nab multiple players who - albeit may be very good - are less likely to be that next Dusty, Trac, Bont type of player that contenders are built around

All depends how JT rates him though!

The more I see, the less likely I feel like we can get this done.

Because he looks so good?

I'm clueless about all the draft and trading machinations, but one advantage we might have is the suggestion he has told the Eagles he will do a Horne Francis if they draft him (which apparently his manager has flatly denied)

The Eagles have pick one and of course will want him. But if they are worried he might bail after two seasons, then perhaps they might figure a couple of first rounders, say pick 4 and 15, and a decent player might be of more value to them - particularly because they will be in a rebuild phase and they need to be bring in multiple quality players (which is where we landed when we decided to go with Hunt and Salo rather Josh Kelly)

I was already of the opinion that we must recruit a quality key defender via trade or the draft and that was before Petty’s breakout game at the weekend.
If he can continue to play well we’ll up front then I think the need is even greater.
I know we have Disco and Adam’s in the twos but are they going to provide the quality we need to replace May and Petty. Tommo has done ok since he came in but he’s close to the end and rumoured to be looking for a trade. A case could be made that we need to bring in a couple of Key defenders.

If we trade for Reid I think we still have to have enough capital to snag a very talented key defender as well. So we either need Tim Lamb to works some serious magic to secure both or we need JT to be able to pick one up a bit later in the draft like he did with Petty.

You have to sell the farm to get him, and on evidence it would be worth it.

Blimey.

I thought he was a forward?

Looks like the bont with his skills in the middle.

He’s a dominant inside/outside midfielder who’s played half back and up forward. He played more forward this year due to a head knock and easing back into it post concussion. He dominated everywhere and showed great marking and kicking skills to add the contested side and decision making. I said it a few pages back, but he’s the next Trac. To get him and have him learn from Trac and interchange the two between midfield and forward would be a devastating combo.

Sell the farm!

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
