Not the place to discuss Bailey Laurie but we simply have too many of the same type of player (small half forward) with no one of them being a standout. AMW is another.

Laurie form at VFL level seems to have plateaued but it can sometimes be hard to judge in that comp.

List decisions are still several weeks off though

Kynan Brown will prob come in too who will be a similar type.
Shame it hasn’t worked out for Bill and hopefully he gets a trade that works for him.

Tommy might struggle also but might be a bit 50/50.

The club is manufacturing contingency as we speak.

Thought you may have had some information as regards to a player or draftee we’d might brw looking at as BBB and or Tmac replacements.
I know we area in need of outside miss this year but have to think we will be looking at a bringing forwards again as well.
Milkshake could also be in if the above two mentioned as very near the end.

No change keep the winning team together.

Including Petty who was subbed with injury in two consecutive weeks?

Hibberd said to be ready to roll - leave him at Casey?   You may ask who for - Bowey to Spargo's role.

Another interesting week for selections.

Petty needs a rest. shame that they played him last week. Give him a week or two to rest and recover.

Spargo not looking sparkly and might be in line to step back to Casey.

Defence: Tomlinson replaces Petty in like for like. we know what is the best structure for our defence and having Petty/Tomlinson there with Lever and May is the way to go. besides, May looked a bit proppy last week and we may need cover for him with a tall. Smith as Sub to cover as many places a possible. Rest of the defence a is. I liked the way that Rivers got a bit of a run on the ball and I would look at rotating McVee on to a wing if the opportunity arose just to see what we might see.

Mids: Lost their way a bit in the middle two quarters but overall I liked the performance without Oliver around. I think that this extended period without Oliver able to play might well be a good thing in the mid to longer term. Viney has really stepped up and knows what he is still capable of. Has taken a lot of responsibility as have a few of the mids the next step below. I like the way Sparrow has played as well as Jordon. Like Brayshaw playing more time in the middle a well. with the depth and experience we are developing in this area it might mean that Oliver and Petracca can spend a bit more time forward and/or resting.

Forwards: A better balance this week without Grundy resting forward and with Brown and JVR as tall targets. I like the way they are using JVR now. A role very similar to the one Jackson played. I would give Spargo a run at Casey as he is not as effective a he has been in the past. in his place I would bring in Harmes. I like to have a good number of mids rotating through and I like the hard body he brings.

I am sure the selectors will do what they believe is the correct thing and disregard what I think...... they probably think they know better than I do.

I've got no problems with the chat re Spargo but we need to realise Chandler hasn't been in that good enough form to replace him. Basically, when in the side of late has done nothing to get me excited. Therefore only the one change for me. Tommo for Petty. Petty needs a good rest and then find some form in the Magoos.

chandler was reported as bog in the sunday practice match ... fwiw

14 against 14. Circle work DC. Even I was good at circle work, many, many years ago. What I'm saying is that Chandler has not done anything in the AFL of late to get me excited. Similar with Spargo so they are IMO on an even keel. Both struggling.

Shame, I think the kid has something. If he secures a trade I'll watch his career with interest.

T-Mac & Brown are contracted for next season ... would they both be on at least $400k in their last year?

If so, I can't see either player walking away from the money.  What's their future income?

With all the long term contracts in the AFL these days, we're going to see more and more players done before their contracts run out

But clubs will factor that into their TPP's as a bit of a necessity ... a way out of it is to front-end contracts and that might be the case with Brown & T-Mac

In overseas sports, it's a common occurance especially when the money is guaranteed (as it is in the AFL)

Why on earth is the website talking about trying to see if Petty is well for selection?  Even the three blind mice under the stairs can see he needs a rest to get himself right and we've got a perfectly good defender in Tomo who should be in there doing his thing!  Unless we're saving Tomo for finals what the heck are they thinking???

Also Melksham really needs to keep his spot, he's just been instrumental in getting the whole season back on track he is a real spark and needs to stay....I'm sure he'll stay in the team for a while yet but damn he needs to stay even when other options are on the table.  Melbourne has needed a spark for a while, Melksham is it, please keep him in!!!

I think BBB and JVR are a great pairing too, the forward line is finally looking pretty good and exciting.

Just give Petty a rest the poor guy looks like he really needs it.

Harmes or from what I've heard about Chandler in the praccy game...him for Spargo. I'm sure Petty is out for Tommo. Smith covers a lot of options as our new sub. I just wonder if he's worth having one more roll fwd maybe in place of Jvr. I suppose that call can be made on the day of Roo is struggling. But yea, I'd forgotten about Harmes. Good call.

If Petty is unfit then Smith takes Petty's spot and Chandler becomes the sub. Leave Hibberd at Casey Bowey and McVee have passed him. Spargo is safe for the time being.

An element to.our demise last season was our continual need to have to play the walking wounded. It was only a matter of time before it all fell in a heap.

We should "learn" from this.  Let those needing it heal/recouperate...properly.

No sense playing anyone who continually hobbling off or anyone whos nqr.

Smith seems a handy sub... Id rather play Tomo.   Depending on matchup maybe Pig.

Not much needs changing for this week... perhaps the gearbox !!

Maybe someone can help me with this, please…

i have a Demons membership but through various reason have only used it for one game this season. It was the King’s Birthday sell-out and I reserved a seat.

The Crows game won’t be a sell-out, so can I just rock up on Sunday with my membership, walk in and find a vacant seat somewhere? Or is there some other protocol I have to follow?

Yes, you can can just scan in.

But you can only sit in in general admission area. But there is heaps of them, and there wont be more than 30k there so finding a decent GA seat won't be hard

How is that even allowed to happen in a club with some good depth like we have?  Is it partly on the players themselves hiding injuries and doing the old "put me in coach I'm okay I just want to play" routine and putting their own ego in front of the club and the rest of the players?  Can that happen these days?  I feel like that's the only way some of these obviously injured players keep getting played.

I just can't see how a professional elite sporting club would play injured players over fresh capable bodies sometimes, the mind boggles.  No need for it.

If Petty doesn't play, my preference is Tomlinson. However, we also have Turner waiting in the wings. Does anyone believe Turner might get the nod over Tomlinson if Petty doesn't play?

I would be surprised if there are any other changes. We're getting to that point in the season where stability becomes important. Even though Spargo does little to enthuse, I don't see any obvious replacements, so I suspect he keeps his spot.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
