we were dominant for two 15 minute periods at the start and the end of the game

other than that, thought the bears controlled the balance of play

when we were on, we smoked em

Oh, the Brissy supporters around me were feral when the siren went. So one eyed, I cannot believe they don't love good footy.

The ones near us were up and getting really arrogant I thought in the 2nd and 3rd quarters when they started to get on top.  After we came back and won the game I made sure I gave them a bit of a serve.

Some tool kid in a Colliwood jumper was also jumping up, turning around to verbal the MFC crowd and getting carried away when Brisbane got on top.  Hey buddy - remember Kings Birthday??

Second half of the third we started to turn things a little in similar fashion to them in the first quarter

just got home, replay is on!

tonight was the best of us and the worst of us, was also the best and worst of me as a supporter

first Q was FIRE

Brisbane played brilliantly for the next two made us look average, we didnt help ourselves playing low % football.

last Q came out of nowhere, but it showed heart, grit, and belief

crowd was unbelievable too

love my club

Third quarter.

Brisbane kick their 5th goal for the quarter.

My mate (a St Kilda supporter) and I head outside so he can have a vape. I've seen enough.

We chat about who fills the top 8 outside of the top 3.

We can't settle on list.

I hear the crowd roar.

"Brisbane has kicked another," I quipped.

No, it was Kozzie.

Another roar.

"Surely that was Brisbane?"

Right I was. Hipwood.

And again, a roar.

"Damn... Brisbane?"

No: it was Gawn.

"Okay... Okay. Are we on?"

Roar.

"Again!"

Alas, a Brisbane goal.

Roar.

"What is going on? Who was that?"

Another Petracca goal.

We head inside for the final quarter. Shortly after the quarter starts, Daniher, having an annoyingly good game, kicks a goal.

"You're done," my mate tells me.

"Yeah, obviously," I admit.

10 minutes pass, a Pickett goal.

Five more minutes, and another.

I joke to my mate.

"There's five minutes left. We could do a Collingwood."

He laughed.

"I can't see it," he says.

"Me neither," I say in defeat.

A stoppage... or so I thought?

"Viney...Viney... VINEY!"

I proceed to absolutely lose my [censored].

"GAME ON. GAME OOOOON. LET'S GOOOOOOO."

My mate, now on board, is slightly more optimistic.

"You need this clearance," he says.

"We have time," I snap back. "We got this."

Kick. Stoppage. Kick. Stoppage. Kick....MILKSHAKE!

"He's got it," my mate whispers.

"He's got it," I whisper back.

He lines it up. Cool. Calm. Collected. A little tap. A straight kick.

"LIIIIIOOOOONNNNNSS," the drunk Melbourne supporter next to me starts chanting, jeering the surrounding Lions supporters who, merely 5 minutes earlier, had prematurely started their victory chant.

"It's not over yet," I calmy said.

"How much? HOW MUCH?!?" My new drunk friend was suddenly anxious.

"33 seconds."

The remaining seconds are a blur... Lever's mark/high free kick seals it.

I lost my voice in the preceding seconds as the siren rang and A Grand Old Flag rang through the speakers.

Hello world. I now have a raging sore throat and no voice.

Hope we can get him a flag for 7 years of service for the club as it might be his final year

Won us a game against Carlton last year and again tonight.

Not to mention his 2018 H & A and brilliant finals series.

For similar sentimental reasons, I would have loved it if Jayden Hunt played in a flag for us and to a certain extent Tomlinson, not to mention Nathan Jones.

Still a realistic prospect for Jake if he can keep it up and an outside chance for Tomlinson (assuming the tram can bring home the chocolates  if course, which is always a huge ask).

Melky having an Indian summer (winter?). Really chuffed for him. The most relaxed I've ever been during a close finish, mainly because I never saw us winning it at any stage. Could be season defining though.

I spent way too much of my time post-game defending the club, the only one with the champion reputation alongside Geelong, with a fitness base to run out quarters, from nuffies over on other neutral forums. Gotta stop that.

Go Dees! Here is where its at  🍻

Will catch up on everything tomorrow morning in the after-glow of a great win!

the dees fans were super loud in the last quarter.

Bizarre thing happened to me tonight during that final quarter.

I was screaming at the umpires, and all of a sudden I had a couple of security people at my row giving me eyeballs.

I wasn’t swearing, nor was I being abusive. My voice wasn’t noticeably louder than anyone else’s. Just shouting like 38,000 other people, I think the phrase I was yelling at the time was “hopelessly inconsistent”. Pretty tame stuff.

But the glaring continued, much to the bemusement of everyone around me, which is family and a bunch of friendly Dees who we’ve now sat with for years. It was clear no-one had complained.

A few people started telling them to move on, and the game looked gone at that stage, so I really lost my cool. I kept shouting, but I was now facing the security guards, yelling that “I will barrack as loud as I want” etc.

It genuinely looked like they were going to turf me, and I was goading them to do it, but without crossing the line. As I say, the whole thing was just bizarre.

I probably acted like a bit of a goose but I wasn’t going to shut up because of some power-tripping security dudes - since when do we have to be quiet at the football?

Wish they’d still been there at the end when I was celebrating!

The big boys against the big boys:

Port 2-1

Collingwood 2-2

Brisbane 2-2

Melbourne 2-2

We’re in this thing ladies and gents!

It’s actually even better than that:

Port 2-1

Brisbane, Melbourne 2-2

Pies 1-2 (not sure where you have given them the extra win from but they’ve only played 3 games against top 4 so far with their only win over Port, they play again soon).

Yeah similar with us, except we went to the bar towards the end of the third, despondent and confused.

How could Brisbane find so much space? Why can’t we kick with their pinpoint accuracy? What the hell is going on with our defensive zone?

the bar was deserted apart from a few others like us. Then, as slowly it looked like we wouldn’t lose by 8 goals but maybe just a couple, hope was rekindled and back out we went.

what happened in those last 10 minutes or so of the game was possibly the most exciting and courageous football, I have ever witnessed in person.
With so much riding on it, it was truly memorable and inspiring

We need someone to post the various radio calls of the last few minutes.

26 minutes ago, Dr. Gonzo said:

How much better do we look when we use the corridor? Playing around the flanks and boundary makes us look slow because our ball movement is slow, it makes the delivery into the forward line predictable and easy to defend and it makes our forward line congested because the fat side is dead so all players gravitate across to the pocket. Use the corridor and open up the field by using angles to move the ball and you look a much better team and much easier for the forwards to manufacture goals.

You have to wonder why we don't use the corridor more.  If the fear is that we might turn it over, haven't we got a stellar defence to repel counter-attacks?

But credit to the Lions in the 2nd & 3rd quarters ... they showed us up with great skill and breakneck speed whilst using the corridor.  They played some terrific footy before coming unstuck in the last quarter

We, on the other hand couldn't seem to get the ball past the centre wing in those two quarters.  And in the 2nd quarter we continually moved the ball slowly through the Southern Stand wing and half forward flank ... played into the Lions hands who won the ball back and then attacked through the middle

Both teams were guilty of trying to protect a lead but of course we came out on top

Joel Smith should play every game from now on,... FOREVER Even as a swingman forward

Is that like “Pizz Melksham off for good” in the game day thread😂😂😂

Smiths strength is his athleticism 1v1 matchup, and either intercept or provide contest and use your asset at ground level to rebound. Your analysis is the gift that keeps on giving

Shout out to the crowd for actually getting fired up in the last quarter.

Didn't exactly help us with the umps as we got stuff all for most of the night but I'm sure it helped the players and put some doubt in to the Lions players mind.

Far from the biggest but certainly one of the more passionate demons crowds I've witness at least since covid.

Maybe tonight we didn't have as many of the bandwagoners from after 2021 and had more of the crazy nutters who sat through the lean years.

I sat right next to the Brisbane cheer squad tonight with my family.

I have to say that is one of the best wins the club has had since attending my first game game in 1988.  My voice is gone. But it was worth it! Milkshake,  max, viney and kozzie were  outstanding in the last.

Thanks dees that was about as good as it gets outside of finals👍

Are you serious?

We got a good run from the umpires tonight

I'm convinced you and a number of others here just need something to whinge about.  Forever complaining when there's no need to

Umpires against us?  What a load of garbage.

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.
