Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Still think we are a bit one paced in the midfield would like to McVee go in there for the outside run.

One paced? We had Kozzie in there for some of the bounces....

Let’s hope he is the Bowey lucky charm version of 2023

I know I am being optimistic, but Wowey is now two from two, just like Bowey in 2021. He couldn't go unbeaten for 17 games, could he?

Best impossible comeback/great escape wins I've seen live:

4. V Freo Rd 7 2008

3. V Bulldogs Rd 21 2005

2.V Carlton QF 2000

1. V Brisbane Rd 18 2023

Yes the 2000 QF was a beauty!

I was there and ended up hugging my Carlton mate when we won (the things we do)

Just checked AFL tables and we were down and out 21 points down going into the last quarter ... 7 goals later and we're in the PF

So, comparing the two, the Carlton win was bigger with what was riding on the result

But equally as euphoric?  The Blues win was well ahead on terms of how I reacted

The collective, layz?  Might be different

How do we get it to the corridor?

1. Force turnovers in the corridor?
Unlikely, given teams don't use it much against us when our pressure is on, and when they do we aren't exactly known as a quick inside midfield brigade likely to cut teams down in the middle.

2. Run it to the corridor?
We absolutely need to do this more, but we aren't exactly full of half backs with blistering pace or midfielders with creativity. Tracc and Clarry are masters of getting the ball on the rebound and running the corridor, but without them in the midfield it's less likely to happen.

3. Kick it to the corridor.
I'd like to see this more, but the reality is we don't have a lead up CHF so it's generally reliant on overloading the corridor with sneaky little ANB leads or some such thing. Tracc likes a short little lead in to the corridor but it's really hard kick to master.

The big thing we need to do to either run or kick in to the corridor is for our backs to stop having their first reaction being handballing or kicking as wide and skinny side as possible. I'm happy to risk a few chase down tackles to encourage our defenders to run and link towards the space. 'In one side, out the other' is a very basic rule for defensive rebounding and would serve us so much better than our usual habit of immediately seeking the boundary in the backline.

If we're going to keep Bowey, Salem and McVee in defence then we should be relying on their kicking skills to pick those kicks off into the corridor. Otherwise shift one of them forward of the ball and give us some better looks going inside 50.

I've been standing in the outer or AFL members all my life and we've never had that many supporters in that area

A large majority of our supporters have always congregated in the MCC area and the Northern Stand

It's just the way it is.  For me, I don't care that I'm outnumbered in the Southern Stand as it's my choice to be there

10 years at the top and you'll see change

I hate it. When I was a kid we would sit in the old red seats, MFC members reserve in the Olympic stand.

I don't mind sitting with opposition supporters sometimes but I hate being outnumbered every single week especially when we're playing interstate teams. I went for an MFC membership about 10 years ago but the seats we got were in the southern stand next to AFL members. I might have to try my luck at MFC reserve in northern stand next year or sitting up on level 4 there occasionally.

Rivers dash through the middle late taking on 3 tacklers was breathtakingly good

More of that please!

I've got access to the MCC as family are members but I'm an AFL member so the southern stand it is

I tend to analyse as I'm watching and am not very emotional so I tend to block out all the noise ... except for the filth supporters, they never fail to get under my skin.  Can't stand 'em

Tonight I was shocked when we won, it was a bit numbing to be honest

Initially I thought we'd pinched the game but we did win the first quarter comprehensively (as we did the last quarter) so the game was split that way ... separated by 1 point at the finish

I'm reasonably sure that many of the Lions supporters would be wondering how they could have possibly lost the game ... just imagine if it was a GF? (not on the receiving end thanks)

And he did a couple of nice things too whilst at the clearances ... a good move to get him into the play

I watched him a bit tonight and I thought he did very well as compared to some previous games

11 possessions, 5 tackles and 3 goals is an excellent return yet I felt the ball eluded him again tonight (but not as much)

Truth is we'd take that sort of return numbers-wise, especially in a big final

Get yourself a Redlegs, Platinum or whatever it’s called now. You may get the GFG.
I’ve had one for nigh on 30 years. Best $700 (?) I’ve ever spent (even though I watch from Bay 13 (now M9).

Unless you are just talking about the ones you were there in person for, surely V Geelong final H & A 2021 and arguably V Bulldogs 2021 GF are up there?

Collingwood supporters are especially vile when they're threatened. Their cockiness is nauseating.

This one was just plain arrogant when the Lions were on top.  Fair enough go and support two opposition teams in your clubs getup as a 'neutral'.  But when you pick sides, then start overtly giving it to the loosing team when the other gets on top, I think that's pretty rank and arggant.

Agreed.

Also Maysie & Rivers need to recognise their short kick limitations and feed off to these guys with handball where possible and let them pull the trigger.  Hec even BB is better at short passes when he drifts down back on occasions.

With Bowser playing a bit more time forward of center you are also getting his crumbing / ground ball skills.

Speaking of which, good to see Kozzy finally getting some mojo back here.

Woe also adding a bit of class with his lovely running goal.

My take - not that it matters much - we started on fire but could not maintain it  as Lions took control. Quarters 2 and particular 3 were pathetic. I mean shocking ala 2020 style - lost and seemingly not interested.

4th quarter was the Melbourne we all love. We took the game on and were able to score. Goody needs to give the boys more freedom and allow them to play like this. It’s harder to defend and we will concede some score but the forwards were bought into the game.

Brisbane are a very good team who are going to get momentum at times.  We're not outstanding, we're in the mix at the top with them, Collingwood and Port.  Expecting perfection is a unreasonable.

I couldn't watch the game so I only had the GameDay thread to go by so I went to bed during the meltdown and woke up to this thread. I wondering if I'm still dreaming.

I know its been mentioned by follow posters but seriously can't believe Petty was allow to play a quarter and a half meekly, half paced when he was clearly struggling.

He's got to know better and just drag yourself off if your no good.

Many would have pulled themselves off - messy business playing with a stiff back.

Interesting that, as Fagan said, we tagged Neale. Pretty effective too.

Sparrow??

I thought for a lot of the game we still ignored free players cross field near 50 only to kick it to a contest in a pocket

Quarter 2 and 3 were risk averse

It’s actually even better than that:

Port 2-1

Brisbane, Melbourne 2-2

Pies 1-2 (not sure where you have given them the extra win from but they’ve only played 3 games against top 4 so far with their only win over Port, they play again soon).

Yep, thanks for correcting that.

Not sure where I gave that extra Collingwood win. They play Port and Brisbane to come.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
