Love the touch of having Yze announce it.

Special. Loved his old man back in the day - preaching to the choir here obviously. Can’t wait to see how Taj goes.

I love the way we build our young players in the VFL and let them loose when the time is right. It’s common in this team now for players to be well im to their second or even third year before they get picked. Great development.

Why do people think Howes is ahead of him? Blake plays a less contested game in an easier position (HB), and gets less of the footy with less impact.

Woey brings attributes we lack into the side - he is a good short passer of the ball and has good composure/decision making. He's also no slouch in the contest and quicker (slightly taller too) than the likes of Laurie

Pleased with the debut & wondering who it is at the expense of - Harmes or Chandler I would guess.

I feel like we have done that so well that now I am pitching in the other direction - get Howes and Woey in, JVR needs to be a regular next year, Laurie needs 6 games to see if he is up to it, Turner needs opportunities etc.

This is why I am comfortable with some turnover of more than just the obvious players (Harmes, Jordon etc) - we need to provide opportunities.

My guess is that he replaces Harmes in the midfield. That's not to say Harmes will be omitted, though. I could see Harmes taking Fritsch's role as the mid-sized mobile forward.

It really is wonderful to have another Woewodin playing at the Demons.

I was always a little saddened when Father Shane went to Collingwood.

Having his son Taj debut for the Demons definitely makes up for it!

It goes to show how important family is and the tradition of the "Father-Son Rule" at Football Clubs. A rule that was invented to allow Ron Barassi junior to play at the Demons many decades ago! It all adds to the rich history and culture of the Melbourne Demons Football Club. Long may it continue!

Additionally, it is looking more likely that Jake Melksham will reach 100+ games for the Melbourne Football Club too! Possibly this week or next week?

Would be great to have JVR back in the team.

Means the 3 WA draftees from the 2021 draftees would be all playing at the same time.

Jason Taylor just keeps ticking them over 👏

Send the video to Daniel Curtin with a 'see you soon' note.

Yes they did. In fact this happened Woey Snr's first game:

https://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/1997/111219970327.html

Wow, everyone was in that game. Stynes, Neitz, Lyon, Smith, both Lovetts, both Febeys, Farmer, and even Alistair Clarkson.

Hmm, funny that Yze missed, given is couple of hundred in a row started that season, but he is there in round 2.

What a time at the club - later that season instead of having two Lovetts we had two McDonalds.

By the end of this week, and discounting the Grimes/Trengove 'moment', Nathan Jones is the only MFC Captain not to play alongside a Woewodin since Greg Healy in 1990!

Goal kicking was still bad 🙄😅

I think he comes in for ANB. We know Hunter can play midfield well as well as wing.

So as well as Hunter and Lingers swapping wings, Hunter and Woey can also rotate wing and that running half forward role of ANB.

I think that gives as more skill in the various roles. I like ANB but he's crucified us a few times in the last few weeks.

Actually, woey's incredible fitness and running power was also ahead of its time.

And his diet.

Well ahead of his time. Was measuring his food etc. Crazy athlete and professionalism.

And how about this for a photo.

Forgive my ignorance, but what role or position(s) has Woey been playing at Casey?

At best guess from memory of the last 4 matches....

Approx 60% / 40%   Wing / Middle

A little more mid time when Jordan & Dunstan were out

How great is to be able to say this name again in a Dees jumper!! And Taj has earned it with some great footy at Casey.

The Saints can really lock a game down but I hope he gets a chance to show his link up play.

Loved it too, you just feel there was that little bit more excitement for Ooze doing it for his good mate's kid.

Shaun Smith 3 Brownlow votes and no goals. I assume he played on Carey who only had 6 kicks 1 goal.

But Carey did his shoulder in that game so that is still strange.

I've heard senior used to ask the waiter in restaurants if he could go into the back to measure his portions.

But we don't tolerate unsubstantiated rumours on Demonland..

Demon Army OG digging through our storage facility for this sign as we speak ♥️💙

My brother says he saw the STILL WOEWODIN sign in the crowd on the replay! Was he dreaming? That's some impressive commitment to storage.

Your brother wasn’t dreaming. Our storage facility is chock-full of old stuff, so much so that a couple of DA-ers have mini storage facilities aka their own houses. 😁 Things are repaired and/or rejuvenated and very little is ever tossed out.

I thought Taj played well against the Saints.

The new "Woey" was smooth with the ball. No fumbling that I recall. Did a clever kick to the top of the goal square that resulted in a fluke goal for the Demons by Ed Langdon.

Shame he didn't kick that goal! When he had a chance later in the game.

Hopefully he kicks a goal (or two!) against the Lions this week.

Well done SOW (Son Of Woewodin)! 😁

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
