Lost a scrappy dog fight.

Not usually one to pot ANB but his fumble was a real sliding doors moment.

Has to go to Casey, I have been saying this along with George on the Outer for several weeks now..just does not do enough, and when he does he chokes, or falters.

I dont understand why we persist with kicking it long to a stationary forward line. we get out marked far more times than we mark it. I really think we need to get BB back in the side petty to the backline after a stint in the VFL to get some match fitness.  Joel smith may be a good interchange with Rooey.

Lot of talk about getting to geelong and training with the dimensions and travelling as a team.

Just so much talk and no fight or contest to show for it, when the game was there to be won our efforts were pathetic.

I love max and maybe its unfair to judge on a wet night, but he isn't close to the multiple all australian ruckman who has been our backbone for the last six years.

Goody will get up and say how good geelong were and how we'll learn and work on conversion. All talk and that's all it will be.

What’s the point of 2 gun rucks …zero goals between them ..  fwd line expecting Jvr & smith to kick a winning score???

Coaching panel has to sought out forward line urgently or good bye. 2023

The amount of times we kicked the ball on top of Kozzies head when he had a much taller opponent on him was ridiculously stupid

Please bring BBB in FFS, just change it up, the lad will mark 3 and kick straight - I promise.

Also, what the hell are our small forwards doing - looking like lost children.

How many intercept marks did geel take tonight in the wet?  Bit hard for Smalls to be effective in that display

I would have thought quite a few. Stewart for one had plenty. Our forwards looking for the easy stuff out the back and did not ONCE put their bodies on the line.

1 mark for the night, 1!

Our forwards need to learn to play in front. I shudder to look at intercept possessions stats for Geelong.

Honestly the forward line worked for 3/4’s.

JJ subbed off his job on Stewart was a disaster. It put Smith on to Stewart which didn’t work and simultaneously took Smith away from finding some space and the ball

Midfield then gave up a few clearances to start the last, and forward line blew big chances in the worst possible way.

Yep he has no business playing the deep role. Should be up at the contest or sitting off the contest for the forward connection play.

Hopefully Clarry is back next week from whatever the frig is going on there, Trac got tagged out of it tonight (mostly against the rules but the yellow cats didn’t mind). He struggles as the number 1 mid, needs Clarry back to get it out to him.

Forward line issues continue, coach seems to be waiting for the magic of the 2021 GF to reappear spontaneously rather than actually trying to develop a method of scoring.

Club launched operation pump up the volume for us to all get to the G and yell our lungs out, how about show us something to yell about?

I’m not convinced we’re going anywhere in 2023, thought we’d clicked a bit last week but took another two steps back this week..

Very disappointing loss. We exert so much effort in our forward 50 for little or no result. No wonder we were completely outrun in the last.

Same old problems.

It’s a horrible thought, but did we get Grundy because we suspected that Max was cooked? He has been a much inferior player this year compared to the colossus of 2021.

Currently we are a 5-8 team. We can scrap and fight to stay in the contest, and on our day take a big scalp, but consistently we lack skill forward of the ball.

The good news is we have one too many running half backs. Hopefully Bowser or McVee can move up the ground over the preseason and help with executing that last kick forward.

Half forward is like the Berlin Wall for us right now. We get the blinkers in this area.

I'd like to personally apologise to the good people who made the trip down, gonna be a tough trip back after that.

Nah, we're getting hot chocolates on the way back. We'll be fine.

Disappointing result, but for 3 quarters we dominated them. I said to my old man with 2 or 3 mins to go in the third, 'I reckon if we get the next goal and get it out to 7 points, we'll win'. We did and looked good. Bad call, AF.

But they were playing for a finals spot after a disappointing campaign as the premier, and the last quarter was a bit of IMV, 'we're home' from our side, and Geelong lifting their intensity through the roof.

In the first 5 minutes of the last quarter, we didn't help ourselves as we kept tapping to the back of the centre bounce in the last quarter, which continually heaped pressure on our mids and defence. It encouraged it. Truly bizarre work.

The scoreline was incredibly similar to the game down there last year. But this year, we really dominated territory (and the game) for the best part of three quarters and they didn't really look like scoring.

Have to think fatigue played a big role in the huge drop off in the last quarter.

After the game a magic raven landed on my window sill and said

"boy, what does it feel like to be a Bulldogs supporter?"

I said I'm not, I support the Demons

He said "same thing, you're just 5 years behind them. Enjoy the slow slide into mediocrity "

Back into the pack... looking over our shoulder for teams trying to take our top 4 spot.

The game in Alice against the Suns is crucial

Cost us any remote chance of top 2 that we still had

Such a disappointing performance can be attributed to numerous factors, ie. questionable selection, too many players down on form, lack of team resolve when challenged, etc.

However Goodwin’s game plan was more instrumental in the loss than anything else.

The concept of trying to lock the ball in our congested forward line not only makes it more difficult to create good scoring opportunities, it leaves the us exposed by a team prepared to run it out.

Geelong burnt us ( aided by some critical MFC errors ) by taking it from D50 using run and dare into their extremely open forward 50 where we were totally exposed.

Over the last few years we are as good, if not better than the rest using the same tactic yet as time rolls on it’s appears to be used less and less. Thus we are content to rely on Goodwin’s well used, stale and rigid tactic of contested ball/ stoppage game that every other club sets up for.

You have to wonder does he have anything else to offer tactically.

No wonder it’s been downhill since September 2021.

Is there a way I can find that footage of our centre square free kick in the last where they refused to give the ball back and then when they did they threw it passed Viney?

That was laughably bad umpiring.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
