Mason Cox post game altercation

I think in America, a certain swagger and showmanship is expected from their athletes, they sort of lap it up. But that's never really played well to an Australian audience - particularly if it's not backed up. We have sportsman who are shockingly arrogant people, and we have our flawed heroes like Warnie who endear themselves to the public through being atypical athletes.

Americans also seem to speak with a mild contempt about Australia from time to time (although I think we can be a overly sensitive about it) and I think both of these things come through in Cox's on-field and off-field behaviour. I mean, compare it to the dozens of Irish imports who seem largely grateful for the opportunity to play AFL.

As for the incident itself. Who knows? I trust Petracca wouldn't have crossed a line. I don't like that Cox felt the need to disclose that Trac had apologised. I also don't like his carry on after he kicked a goal on Gawn or his history of putting a knee into Gawn's back in marking contests.

That all being said. I respect what he's achieved. I won't ever abuse him but I also don't like watching him and would prefer it if I didn't have to.

So that's my thesis on why I find someone annoying. Goodnight people.

Some hilarious speculation on Facebook that I happened to be sent tonight. Needless to say it was rubbish, but so bizarre and ridiculous, it had to be made up by a Collingwood supporter.

Broad sweeping statement

Cox is arrogant because he's arrogant, not because he's American.

Plenty of arrogant AFL players, very few are American. Maybe its us Aussies who are arrogant!

Cox has played 100 games in a tough sport that he did not grow up with. He's a good sportsman

None of us really know the detail behind their heated conversation

Well said. Actually, I thought his game was pretty good on Monday.

I have it on good authority it went down as follows....

MC - "You wanna pizza me!??"

CP - "No dinner for you Donald.  You from Duckota & your breath is fowl"

I trust my eyes. Maynard pulls Cox away and hugs Trac. Enough said.

And Trac apparently apologised to Cox later, so maybe, just maybe he shot his mouth off to Cox in the thrill of a close finish.

As I said, none of us know what really went on

Funny how you can change an opinion on someone as actions speak louder than words as you say Jaded.

I have changed my mind on Maynard also, sure he's thuggish and sees himslef as an enforcer - cue the Langdon incident, which didn't require much courage from him last year - and his attack on Joel Smith after the rundown by Joel (and huge kudos fo young JVR for flying thr flag bigtime), but Maynard's approach after the Cox incidnet was measured and thoughtful, dare I say professional getting involved and helping Max out.  Same goes for Pendles.

I loved the way Trac just walked off and left Cox shouting after him.

The Age today has 5 hypothectical responses Trac could let fly with that are both amusing and close to the truth  w.r.t. Cox.

In Trac's head I suspect he moved on days ago.

Cox played OK. Disposal very good by hand and foot. Was probably 2nd best big man on ground behind Max. By my count he is only behind 3 Irishmen for best import. Maynard is a goer and showed some maturity. Was a ripping game and I loved our method and effort. Can’t wait to a rematch (anytime) in the finals. Players brought the heat and we made some noise!

I have the inside word that Cox took umbrage with Trac's TikToks - namely calling cilantro 'coriander' and referring to bell peppers as 'capsicum'. And the restraint shown by Big Mase for not even bringing up the complete lack of ribs, brisket or mac & cheese recipes speaks volumes of his character. I assume an official joint apology from the club and on.trac5 is imminent.

Hi D17. I can’t find that in The age. Where is it, please?

Happy to:

Page 42-43 of todays online edition. Don't now if its in the paper version.  I would have added one more - something about Trac's Norm Smith medal maybe.  But below is a cut and paste of the article

"...ON THE COACH’S WHITEBOARD

Before you go, here are ...

Five key lines Snap Shot believes Demon Christian Petracca was entitled to say when giving Pie Mason Cox a bit of his own medicine after Melbourne beat the Magpies on Monday.

Do you want to see my premiership medallion Coxy?

60 Minutes might be a thrill for you but try playing 120 minutes for once mate.

While Beverley Hills near Doncaster might not be Beverly Hills California, it’s better than Texas.

Do you want me to get you Ben Simmons autograph?

Gus and Gawny wallops the Mason Cox podcast IMO...."

Maynard has a good relationship with Melbourne players. His brother played for us.

Also, he played for Vic Metro with Tracc and Gus in 2014. Those boys go way back.

And his father played for us as well. Likely grew up a Dees supporter.

Did he? I didn’t know that!

Peter Maynard played 8 games in the 1970’s for us before going on to play around 200 games for Glenelg in the SANFL.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
