Salem is a borderline elite kick, good vision but limited penetration.

Bowey and McVee aren’t elite either but the hope is they keep growing.

The 30m up and under king Hunter sure isn’t.

Spargo is an elite kick for his role but he needs to get more than 3 of them.

Fritsch can be.

But it’s incredible how well we play given how limited the foot skills are particularly across the midfield.

Salem borderline elite, Bowey and McVee aren’t elite. You’re having a laugh surely? Come on now

I was wrrrrrong. Credit to Joel Smith who did ok.🙄

Joel Smith has always had the attributes of a good player.  Injuries, panic related errors and lack of a clear role have hurt him. Would definitely have been a Premiership Dee if not for the injury. Maturity and confidence can be a force in football and Smith is ready to make his mark for a bit. Wont last forever but he will be valuable. Shaun Grigg sort of valuable.

I reckon we should ask for a please explain from the AFL for Lever being paid a 50m against in the Anzac Eve game for carrying on behind the mark, and the Collingwood player at half time for Trac’s kick after the siren doing the exact same thing for no resultant 50. Really poor.

I am not sure of the rule but if the protected zone is 5m behind man on the mark then it was the right call.

That was a fantastic day.

Viney was superb all day and if he keeps that up with Clarry back in we will be hard to beat .

I wanted that win so bad against those mongrels, so it’s a bloody good feeling to beat them and to have so many Dees supports there making some noise!

Go Dees!!

Great win. We took the physical/attrition side out of the equation by matching them in that aspect for a full game. We needed to get back to winning a game that way.

Might the result have been different if both teams weren't affected by missing/potentially underdone players? Who cares. Because if we play with that level of effort and happen to lose a final to a better team then so be it. If we bring sub par intensity like our finals last year, and the Ess/Port/Freo games this year, we will lose finals and it will again leave a really bad taste in the mouth.

Also, that's 2 weeks in a row where we have conceded under the magic 18 scoring shots to our oppo. I believe that is the number that would see us being there at the pointy end.

Shaun Grigg was a proper solid footballer.

Jacob Townsend is the short term aim for Joel.

Come in later in the season, compete in the air and provide immense defensive effort and run to be an outlet.

Gee it’s incredible then how most of these players have Premiership Medals. Truly amazing…Wow.

Depends on your definition of elite, but for mine elite kicks are guys who lace the ball a variety of distances and routinely hit corridor kicks.

Salem’s always been undervalued for his contested work, marking, positioning, tackling and slightly over valued as a kicker.

If he was unquestionably elite he’d take more kick outs.

According to some Salem is a softy, i hope those doubters had a very hard look at his game today.

Put your hand up and say sorry to the great man.

Sorry. However, his injuries and illnesses did alter his game enthusiasm for some assignments over the last two years; certainly, today he demonstrated 'mongrel' quite well, giving a few lessons-by-example to those receptive enough to interpret what he was all about and that includes The Filth players in his vicinity; you can see young MacV has picked his way through a few of Salem's enablers.

All things considered a great win and very satisfying.  Removed a few doubts

We pressured them all over the ground (all game) and we hunted the ball extremely well and had many numbers at the contest (all game) Played very well as a team

That's our best win in an age

They had Sideottom, De Goey & Elliott out and they really missed those 3 players.  We had Oliver out of course but Viney took up his role in magnificent fashion

So what happens the next time we play them?  They'll be better so we need to be better ... especially with our disposal skills (mainly early in the game) and our kicking for goal

But we are one-up on them with a lot on the line today in terms of if we'd lost, we'd be back in the pack.  In other words, if we're going to win big again we have to finish at least top 4

Another big test at Catland next.  Bring the attitude, endeavour & effort that we displayed today to that game and we can win again.  10 days rest should see us cherry-ripe for that encounter

In the meantime, we get the bragging rights over the Pies

Enjoy!!!

The worst part of the day was Melbourne supporters in AFL Reserve waving off Collingwood supporters with 4 minutes left, before Collingwood banged on two quick goals and still had a chance with 30 seconds. Pies supporters rightly absolutely giving it to the Melbourne supporters.

We are never out of it, but boy do our skills sometimes make you scratch your head. Is it pressure?

Kossie won’t get dropped because he’s a ‘can turn a game’ player. But FMD this flying for marks is just wishing and hoping. If I was a big forward I’d be telling him to get out my way, and follow up if it drops to ground, he’s potential to impact is far greater.

ANB, Spargo or Chandler to be dropped, form warrants someone else to have a crack.

Then there was the time they let Mason Cox stand the mark while we had a shot on goal, when the free clearly wasn't paid against him 😠

You can drop one of these for an extra mid. You can’t drop all 3.

Nibbler had an absolutely Nibbler of a first quarter but geez he was pretty good after that.

Chandler hit the post twice.

Pickett was quiet but pretty close. Small forward struggles in a high pressure game, wow, there’s a surprise.

I suspect Spargo might have a week in the 2’s but that will be it.

The others aren’t getting dropped for Moniz-Wakefield or Sestan.

Kozzi should be made sub next game to hopefully make him think about his approach to the game from the bench. Replace him with Jordan who got more ball in one quarter than Kozzi did the whole match. Too good to drop at this stage but needs some time out.

Kozzie would greatly benefit from some Casey time -- with a focus on forward pressure, front and centre groundwork and team first.  He is fast becoming a liability, which is such a pity as he has so much to offer.

Both Thommo and Joel Smith have revealed themselves to be more than competent  at AFL standard - which is a great bonus.

Get the fundamentals of set shots in order and another flag is not out of the question.

Not enough love for Lachie Hunter's hit on Hoskin-Elliot (3.54 left in the first quarter). Was awesome. Too bad Grundy couldn't finish the work off.

An absolute highlight, especially as it was preceded by an incredible spoil by McVee.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
