Could we tempt Carlton with our 2 first rounders (really hope Freo tank from here) and a second to trade for McKay? They have holes in their list and those picks could help them address. And they could use McKays salary to pay De Koning

Yu could probably tempt them even though he is on long term contract.

Not sure he would be worth it on form though...has some pretty large flaws atm.

Definitely not playing anything close to value for the 800K figure he is reportedly getting.

Major headache for Carlton. They have been an interesting watch.

Is this the De Koning that Sydney are reportedly throwing huge money at for 8 years?

They all have flaws.

We're in dire need of a FPF and there aren't many out there.

Ben King perhaps. But he has his flaws too.

This is the thing, someone is likely going to overpay for De Koning due to the lack of options out there. Like the last ice cream in a milk bar on a 40 degree day.

Tom is clearly going to Sydney - really surprised if that doesnt happen now. It would take a momentous shift and pay-packet to divert his future. We don't have a lot of salary cap either so cannot see us doing much on the trade (forward) front this year.

Come on @layzie. If it was the last ice cream in the milk bar, you'd buy it for double its face value, grab a tram down Royal Parade, walk into Prince Park and tell 'em it's the last ice cream in the universe. You'd name your price and get a nine year recurring contract payment.

That seems a high price to pay for a 33 year old Ed Curnow.

Revised offer; Love Shack 12'' maxi single and 2 packs of Smiths crisps.

Someone here who watches all of Carlton's games ... TDK has some potential and shows flashes here and there but really has not shown enough yet to warrant a big contract. Carlton will not match any huge offers (say from Sydney) because frankly he is not worth it.

As for Harry McKay, yes he currently has issues with his goal kicking but they can be worked on. His play around the ground has been quite good this season, his marking has been great, general field kicking fine, tackles and puts pressure on. He is also surprisingly fast for a tall player.

He did try a few drop punts against Collingwood last week and did kick two so he may be on his way to fixing his set shot kicking yips.

Two seasons ago when he won the Coleman he was used close to goals as a classic full forward so most of his goal kicking was from shorter ranges, he is being used differently now that Curnow is back from long term injury.

Uncontracted at years end. Do we make a play for a talented tall who could perhaps play forward for us?

what would we offer a VFL player in his 6th year ?? or are you thinking Casey offer him something ?

Edited by Bay Riffin

No, he isn't very good as a fwd.  he is ok as a ruck but again not that great.

we have 5 fwds that are as good as him.

All he needs is to finally have a really good preseason. Are you aware of how long it took Tom Hawkins to come good?

Carlton: ‘what flavour chips?’

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
