I luuurve the way Lachy Hunter has fitted in to our team, and he seems genuinely liked by teammates> All you need is some brevity and understanding , which was obviously lacking at Dishlickerland!!

I'd happily pay the fine. From Lachie's PoV, one for the grand kids in 2057. You can't invent this type of $%^&! The man is a total legend.

I saw this at the time and said to the bloke next to me it was NQR, and asking for trouble.

I said in the Sparrow thread the AFL will try and [censored] the MFC and this is a classic example.

If he was already warming up around the boundary line, I reckon a heckle is ok.

But running at the player like this doesn't sit right to me, as it makes it "feel" like there is an extra defender. I don't think it's appropriate.

But as said above, exposing another player on the field should be a more significant penalty than this!

To add to this: I absolutely love the ****housery. I just think it needs to be against the rules.

Don’t have a problem with the fine. If a player did that in a close prelim and it caused a turnover all hell would break loose.

Kinda impressed with how quickly he thought to do it though. Hated him and his smart aleck tendencies at the Dogs, don’t mind it all anymore.

I counted two dackings on the weekend and I’m sure neither attracted a fine.

Both did.

Well definitely Murphy was fined.

I have no problem with the fine.

It could lead to an incident and is not helpful.

I want vision of his teammates on the bench when he did this.

Well at least we got consistency finally.

The MRO has found another new way to penalise a MFC player and the MFC and given several past incidents, that is the only level of consistency the MRO has ever achieved.

On the other hand it’s not behaviour the AFL should encourage.

Very glad he didn't miscalculate and place a foot over the line.

For what it's worth, I think the fine is appropriate. If no action had been taken, players would believe they could do this with impunity. That could lead to dangerous outcomes.

Inappropriate causations have been occurring for years. Did Mathews receive a fine and a bill for wrecking a point post? Did Jones get fined for damaging a goal post? Did players get fined for misbehaving in the race or the dug outs?

Resting case.....

Wtaf, he's getting fined for that, seriously?

Very smart gamesmanship.

Can AFL please quote the rule that he has breached?

I guess we should be so grateful to Michael Christian for not suspending him for a month on another trumped up charge that is not in the rule book.

I get it. I mean, it’s a little funny and good on him, but have to draw the line somewhere. $1500 seems excessive though. Must inclusive of the additional MFC player tax.

and in the latest news from afl house ... the afl has announced that fartometers will be installed in all player interchange benches. any player caught farting will be fined by the mro for unsportsmanlike behaviour.  repeat offenders or particularly smelly farters could be suspended or referred to the afl tribunal.  the afl spokesman said this is further step in the afl's commitment to a safer and more inclusive workplace.

Really? The Cadman one I can understand as it was deliberate. But I saw the Jackson one as incidental to play.

I corrected my earlier post to definitely on Murphy, maybe not on Jackson one.

This is, must be a joke. Hope Goody, Fags, Fly and other coaches on the side lines don't wave there arms or gesture to one of there own players if the ball and oppo player is close and happens to put the oppo player off.. Give me a break.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
