If this was a bigger name player would the result be the same?

Wow I thought maybe 1 week but 2 come on.

He didn't even concuss him

AFL 360 are going nuts about it. Gerard and even Robbo cannot believe it

Not watching but can hear Robbo struggling to string together a coherent sentence and for once fully understanding what's going on in his head.

Wait a minute- was this was just the regular tribunal hearing because we didn't accept the 2 week offer? So is there still scope for an appeal of this decision? Get Cripps's QC on the case.

Yeah, we can appeal again

Can you appeal this ?

Think there is an Appeals Board.

Total BS

We need that silk Carlton used to get Cripps off. Get him on the phone immediately.

Do NOT roll ovef Melbourne.

This is the moment to grow up.

Stop being a doormat

Filth wouldn't accept this.... theyd be pushing their media barrows out already.

Club needs to come out right now and say “This is a [censored] farce and we are [censored] appealing this”

Wow that’s [censored]….

ANY attempt to spoil where you collect someone high must be deemed two weeks from now on by the AFL logic

He'll win on appeal.  To uphold this verdict means that any "reasonable" player defending by punching the ball from behind and hitting Max Gawn or any player playing in front in the head, ear, jaw etc will be suspended.  There will be nobody left playing.  Gleeson's premise is absurd.

Think the appeal is a whole 5k isnt it?

Anyone got the AFL Law book handy? What are our options? Injunction at law? Serious.

Que Mr Leg

As bad as it is for us as a team if we don't appeal again, and hopefully get JvR off then the AFL has just set a ridiculous new precedent that will alter the way the game is played, scary stuff.

I hope we go to the appeals board. What [censored] clowns sit on that board? More lawyers who have never played football in their life?

I cannot understand why MFC had Adrian Anderson appear.

While i believe he is a lawyer and was big in the AFL, surely a bigwig barrister might have been worth it

Honestly thought this would be a formality because the AFL could not possibly soften the brand in this manner.

I’m stunned

what is going on with the MRO. Seriously. Non sensical decision.

Imagine how many players that hit Gawny every week will get rubbed out!

My guess is none

Must appeal

100% this ☝🏼

A terrible decision at so many levels.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
