The cards are all stacked in Melbourne’s favour for tonight’s clash against Al Clarkson’s North Melbourne. They are out of form, young, inexperienced, have lost their gun player in LDU and haven’t won a game at the G since 2016. They desperately need to fix their defensive system because they’ve been leaking goals of late while the Demons have been trying to right their forward line for the past 12 months. Melbourne are favourites and rightly so but need the fans to come out and support them tonight!

North had a good start to the season but their recent performance have been woeful. We'll win handily.

A big win tonight and a Collingwood loss tomorrow could see us on top of the ladder.

Question is whether we want to be there at this early stage of the season?

IMO it shouldn’t be a question. You try to get the wins on the board early to set up your season and finish in the top four after round 24. I know that football’s all about taking things one week at a time but looking ahead at our next few weeks I would be very disappointed if we weren’t in first or second spot before the break for the bye.

As for tonight, I think it’s time to lift ourselves back to the form we showed at the start of the season when we overran the Bulldogs in Round 1.

North won't be pushovers tonight. You can absolutely bet Clarkson will get them up for a game at the MCG on free to air against a flag contender. He did it multiple times at Hawthorn between 2004-2006 and he'll get it done a few more times this year. Hopefully not against us. There are a few players at North playing for their careers atm. Everyone is playing for a spot in Clarkson's North. At the very least, they'll start strong and give us a scare early.

Perfect weather. Sunny and crisp all day according to BOM.

Should be a good game. Hopefully a crowd lf 40k-ish.

Be the Hunter not the hunted.

If we bring the fierce heat and attitude we win well….turn up half interested like we did against the Bombers and it will be a struggle

They must have updated the forecast.  It now reads:

It will be dark and cold (13 d) by the time the game starts and 10 d by the time it ends.  Add some wind chill factor for the slight breeze and it won't be pleasant sitting at the G.  Sadly that will put people off going and we will be lucky to get 30K

9Going to the game tonight with my whole family. First ever game for my partner who is 49yo! She's not keen, but will be able to say she has been ...

Have booked accomm near the ground so she and 6yo son can leave at half time, leaving me, my 21yo and 11yo sons to cheer the Dees home!

Delighted not such a long wait for the game as last week.

From round 7, all parking at the G will have to be purchased on line from Ticktec.

This is on the MCC website Once again if you dont have a mobile phone you just dont park at the G.

First refusing to axcept Australian money, then having to use credit cards now that isnt good enough, having to prepurchase parking tickets online from of all people.... TICKETEC.

This will be a slog. Roos under the pump after poor month. Clarkson will make our life hell.

So for the game thread. Before we single out players, and [censored] and moan, let's remember that AFL is a tough caper. Go Dees!

No such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing

For you and I perhaps but not likely for the 'fair weather sailors' when it comes to attending games.

And I'm not sure how many North supporters will pay for seats, all things considered.

Every game is important, every game difficult if not switched on. Last night game and example of how tight the comp can be.

is top up for grabs ?

just get the points. Go Dees

A little danger feeling on this. We should have a decent win on ladder positions, but they were very physical and served it up to us at Metricon last year.

Enjoy the game.

I’m not proud of it, but I’ve used the Jam Donuts at the G to motivate young family members to keep going to the footy until they’ve fallen in love with the Dees. It works for 49 year olds too.

Whatever it takes.

I’ve been invited by a friend who is a North insider. He has stressed no opposition colours as we’ll be going into the North rooms. 🤐

Focus on the process weekly mate and the outcome will take care of itself 😇

If we are switched on we win very very easy but if we are not, well I'm not going to hang around the game Day Thread. It's only early in the season and wins are all you need but it is time this club became ruthless against teams like North.

Just go and make a beeline for Todd Viney. At least you'll get your Melbourne fix

Why are we playing tonight, instead of tomorrow?

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
