PREGAME: Rd 07 vs North Melbourne

Very happy to see Josh Schache get his chance. Played a great game 2 weeks ago in VFL and was the resting emergency last week so will be fresh legs.

Harmes should get the sub role.

Laurie unlucky but if he was sub again and got only 5 minutes play it'd be bad for match fitness (although I note that Casey plays on Sunday - are subs still permitted to play VFL and AFL on the same round?)

5. If Chandler out maybe Harmes or even AMW in.

Big unknowns this week selection wise.

Wouldn't put anything on that happening DM

Harmes yes

Worth prepping Harmes (at Casey and eventually some seniors time) for the job on N Daicos through the middle and forward?

When he goes back handover to Hibb?

Prep Kozzy to pressure Noble who they often use a short kick or so behind play & across HB for the mop up and slingshot distribution.

Maybe Sparrow in a run with on Pendles with some help from others as required (Juddy & / or JJ).

Viney in a head to head with DeGoey

Ben Brown stiff. Great pre season started off the season well, injured now can't get in. Guess the footy department want to see if schace can grab his chance.

Yeah I agree - though I am also intrigued to see what Schache can bring.  His VFL form at the end of last year was very strong - stronger than Weid for example (and Weid is getting games in a side that has performed better than us this year) and he's continued this year.  He is an untapped talent but I fear he ultimately lacks the mongrel you need.  But if he gets a good run at it, he has all the tools to be a great player.

Given the opposition over the next 3 weeks (North Suns Hawks), he has a decent chance to build some confidence and belief - if he does this he could hold his spot.

That line up is a joke. Only a few named were in their real positions.

They’re almost never named in their actual positions? Is less about that and more about the 22/23 that are named; don’t worry about where they’re listed on the field

Does having 48 & 2 for Casey, on the back of a month of solid form, tell you that regardless of form, you won't be picked in this side unless its a genuine like-for-like change?

I don't like what it represents. Goody is brilliant but this has been a flaw of his before. Selection integrity is vital.

The sub rule is just ridiculous for players pushing for selection. Laurie had 5 mins of footy for the week and then he’ll probably get dropped to get ‘match conditioning’

Absolutely bizarre setup

Death, taxes and Demonlanders outraged that players aren't named in actual starting positions.

Honestly don’t understand why people care? It literally does not matter whatsoever. Only thing that matters is who is actually named

Feel for Laurie out (or maybe sub again). It must be frustrating for the next rung down waiting for opportunities when they’re beyond VFL footy. Dunstan and Harmes are shredding VFL at the moment and wasting their time there.

The team isn’t overly inspiring on paper and we’re not in good form at the moment either. The Tigers would’ve beat us if they kicked straight. They won the contested ball, had more inside 50s and more shots. We conceded the most inside 50s we’ve done in 4 years. Our whole team defense is a real worry at the moment. Not saying it’s a danger game, but we need to lift. The next three weeks are our percentage boosters. Once this block is done, we’ll have played and beaten up on all bottom 7 teams except Freo.

Laurie looked out of his depth during his short foray on Monday.  Not saying he won't make it but may need a bit more time to develop a cool head under pressure.

One of Harmes or Dunstan surely.

I thought Chandler was injured? Surely on a 5 day turn around they don’t risk him and give Laurie a chance against a bottom four team!

When was Chandler injured? You're not getting confused with Spargo are you?

Yeah they should just name 22 players in a vertical line.

Good team with the inclusion of Schache as a forward to support JVR. I expected that there would be more changes to the team given the 5 day break and then the travel the following round. The selectors may have taken into account the situation of North with regard to the travel/schedule that they have had to endure recently.

If Chandler does not come up Then I would bring Laurie into the team and make Harmes the sub.

We have our 7 defenders in Bowey, Lever, May, Hibberd, Rivers, McVee and Brayshaw with Brayshaw able to rotate into the middle as well as the wing if required. Schache can cover a tall loss down back if needed.

On the wings we have Langdon and Hunter with Jordon, ANB and Brayshaw all able to run the wings on rotation. The middle we have well covered with Petracca, Oliver, Viney, Sparrow the main drivers with Jordon, ANB, Brayshaw, Rivers and, at times, Pickett all able to effectively move through there. I expect Grundy to take at least 50% of the ruck work and would not be surprised if it was closer to 60% with Max moving in front of the ball or behind it as required.

The forward setup is pretty transparent with Schache, Van, Rooyen and Fristch as the talls and Chandler and Pickett working at the drop of the ball with rotations from ANB, and mids such as Viney, Petracca and Oliver. Could also see Sparrow and Jordon in there at times as well.

Looking forward to see how Schache goes as I believe that he may surprise a few.

If we settle quickly in the match and work the basics well and let the imagination and game come to us I think we will win well against a young North side. I also believe that with our stronger bodies and better fitness, we will pull away from them in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

Go Dees!

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
