Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

From what Goody said and implied BBB and Spargo still out and TMac not looking likely. Add to that Chandler having scans with a 5 day break so not likely. Add to that May and Hibbo seeming proppy.

So out or not available could be BBB, TMac, Spargo, Chandler, May(they seem to be playing him through the injury), Hibbo, presume Riv just cramp, think Viney was limping / iced knee as well.

My take:

1. They seem set on Petty forward for a while but I think back would take some pressure off May and get our much vaunted backline back how it was.
2. Time to give Schache a go forward

3. If Viney not right Dunstan in

4. If May not right Turner in even though Tommo (kind of done now) is a better match for lockdown

5. If Chandler out maybe Harmes or even AMW in.

Big unknowns this week selection wise.

They wear yellow and black to every MCG game.  Daft, I know but that is how they work...

Agree happens every year.  Surely the umpires have alternate uniforms for these if and when required situations. It is soooo frustrating.

How about fluorescent green or pink or any other contrasting colour!!!!! Not exactly rocket science required to solve this problem.

I’m not against giving Schache a go but he was primarily recruited because he can be the back up ruck. I’m sure he would’ve played against the Swans when Gawn was out.

He does make some sense at CHF with JVR more FF.

Although if BBB is right he probably gets the nod, just not sure what to make of his Casey game.

That’s all assuming Petty is needed back or to have a rest. I’m inclined to rest him but the club might not be.

Turner for Hibbo still seems the most sensible tall change.

And at least one fresh runner seems necessary.

I am not a fan of rotation unless its one only. If someone is injured they go out but otherwise we have a run of games where we might be able to run ourselves into some (sorely lacking) form. we really need to cement our structure and game. We have been poor up forward and that needs to be solved.  I dont like Petty forward but Goody seems set on it. I think May would benefit from having Petty back and unless injured should play himself into form. North are not to be taken lightly.

I would reckon that (if fit) Pickett and Fritsch will both bounce back.  The question is, are they fit?

Fritta is technically still rehabbing, albeit not in the full sense. His training is modified and other rehab rules apply, eg. no alcohol. As with any foot injury, it takes a little longer to get back to 100% “normal” which will happen sooner than expected because… Fritta.

Other than that, he’s fitter than he’s ever been.

Think Fritta is recovering from being held/pushed/retarded/ankle tapped/blocked by Grimes and co. every time he went for the ball! Joke umpires.

North are harder, faster and fitter than last year. Goldie is tireless and their in 50 entries are good. I hope we win, because it is becoming evident we are being quietly neutralised through two, intention to cause weaknesses.

The first is most head free kicks being called play on therefore bringing doubt to the way we play, and the second is the time differential in calling play on after stoppages. Ours is many seconds shorter than ALL other teams, and that makes us rush decisions and directions. As well our FB gets nowhere near the amount of space/time given to other teams on all kick outs.

On AFL 360 last night Goodwin said Gawn and Petty give us the aerial presence we haven't had for a while.  We can all recall the numerous games where defenders marked in fwd 50.

On thinking about that, technically McD and Brown should provide it and they have in the past.  I wonder whether their respective past injuries (McD's foot; Brown's knee) prevent them from jumping and therefore it is difficult for them to contest and mark or bring the ball to ground.

Therefore their one wood and now maybe only trick is to lead out.  Very easy to defend if a fwd has only one tool.  So their absence from the team may not be their form or perhaps their form is a result of not being able to jump and contest.  They have run out of tricks so to speak.

So Petty isn't necessarily there to kick goals.  He is there to mark or to give our small players a chance at ground level.  Ditto Max.  They will kick goals from time to time.  Worth noting that of the 15 goals we kicked vs Tigers only two were kicked by Petty and Gawn.

Luci, I agree with you. In fact I could not agree more. We cannot afford not to play Petty forward. Although he marks very few he is competitive and rarely outmarked. Conversely BBB is led to the ball and outmarked more often than not even at VFL level. This, of course, is a great rebound for any opposition. Up forward, Petty also has a spark of aggression and I reckon our small forwards walk taller because of that.

Cant understand the opposition to Ben Brown . He was in great form before getting injured early in the 3rd R.    9 goals  ffs.

I dont care if he had a poor game last week in the VFL. Could of leaned against the goal post picking his nose for all i care.

Hes an AFL player not VFL.

If fit hes straight back in and he'll take the oppositions best defender away from JVR.

If BB can get his body right I think it will be JVR, BB and Max, with Petty back. If not it will be same as last game. Not against giving the Shack a try though.

For all the criticism of his game on the weekend didn't someone report he had 6 shots at goal?

And.. Schache is an AFL player... ..played in Grand Finals and everything....true dinks.

I don't understand the scorn and derision of this guy tbh.

Of the 3 Tmac, BBB, and Shack. ... who is better shape...better form ?

By all accounts recently kicked a bag of 4 on a day abd a ground not suited to talls.

Yeah ...a real hack that Shack.

I really couldn't care who any of them are. Im not trying to have a kick to kick with mates...... I'm just supposing who might be the most useful player to have out there doing a role.

And someone not carrying a niggle( at best ) ... someone who can pinch hit in the Ruck... go forward...or if need go back.

Hes not fn brilliant....but hes non too shabby either.

He's done the graft and hard yards... hes been seen worthy as a sub..

Well... sub him in ffs.

A question for my learned colleagues :

Roughly speaking, May had 4 kicked on him, Lever 3 and Hibbo 2; and Rivers was subbed out.  Do we need to carry another option for down back?

I was really pre-empting the melts over travel and a 5 day break for this week's game that will surely come from posters, rather than the overall travel burden.

imv travel and breaks are relevant only in relation to our next opponent so I reckon we start fairly even with North.

I only agree to an extent. I think travel and breaks are most impactful on any given week, but they build up over time.

So this will be North's 7th game and their 6th different venue (MCG, Marvel, GC, Perth, Adelaide Oval, Launceston). It's tiring moving around that much. There's no routine, just constant movement.

For them, the "soft" part of their fixture (travel-wise at least) is coming up - their next 8 games before their bye are all at either Marvel or their second home, Hobart.

So IMO I don't think it's purely coincidental that Essendon and St Kilda have started the year well when they've played every game bar Gather Round in Melbourne (including this week and, for St Kilda next week too). That's a 2-month patch where both sides can get into routine, avoid being on planes and in hotels, and settle into their new seasons with new coaches.

In what role?

Well there is doubt on BBB, so key forward helping JVR. Not convinced they will play Max, so maybe ruck chop out. Can chop out down back too.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
