Seriously curious.

It’s an excuse to have another round of footy.

IT’S AKIN TO GOD AND HIS WILL

Bad luck to Sam Weideman on getting concussion and missing out on playing this week. At least it means he can’t do a Jayden Hunt and star against his old team.

Your mistake deever is trying to attach common sense to the idea.

It’s been great to see. & it’s been done with intent.

I dislike Essendon more than any club…well maybe equal with Collingwood.

I hope we embarrass them. We are better than them, as a team and just generally!

Most of you have interest in 2 games a week - to watch Melbourne win and hope Freo lose. I hate Essendon enough that I’d rather Freo won if it guaranteed an Essendon loss. The rancid cherry on the top is my utter contempt for Jake Stringer.

The only thing better than whingey Essendon supporters are ones that still think they are good. Can't wait to give this mob a touch up and put them back in their place

Can't see Brown coming back after T-Mac's game.

And playing TMac and Brown in the same forwardline with Fritsch would be unwise imo given their lack of defensive pressure. (Although Fritsch has been surprising me with his chasing efforts of late).

I think it'll be Hibberd out and Laurie in with Rivers to go back to defence.

Laurie had a cracker in the VFL and was unlucky to go out and provides another point of difference as a mid rotation who can play forward too.

Outs: Hibberd

Ins: Laurie

Rivers can’t go back to the position he played most of the game in. He attended 3 centre bounces.

Hibbo has to be replaced by a defender, be it Petty or otherwise - Turner a decent chance.

Also can’t see Laurie jumping JJ in to the starting 22, would be sub at best.

If Brown comes in, don't we have too many tall forwards now that JVR is in the team as well?

They seem comfortable to have JVR as the back up ruck to Grundy so not necessarily. I would go in trying to overwhelm Essendons backs with height and then abandon in the third if not working.

Out: Hibberd (managed/inj)

In: Brown

Petty back.

Unless there is something I am missing -  I would go with this. Harmes doesn’t slot back in anymore, JJ/Sparrow interchangeable almost, Petty experiment can continue soon.

But if they want to keep it going it might be time for Howes for Hibberd?

Why is Geelong playing lowly  Hawthorn at the G instead of down at the cattery? The excuse will be that there are construction/safety issues down there until early May etc etc.

AFL will have a legitimate excuse for no cattery games  but why arent we playing Geelong at the G instead of Hawthorn? When was the last time they played down there?  20 years ago?

Melbourne of course will play at the cattery later this year. With any luck the new grandstand will topple over due to shonky steel imported from god knows where.I wouldnt trust any company in the building industry. Full of Arthur Daleys.

How does this relate to our pregame against Essendon?

None the slighlest although its typical of the AFL to have us on the road constantly now flying to Adelaide on Friday to play Ess Saturday.

Melbourne should establish their training facilities at Tullamarine. We seem to spend most of our time there.

Brown needs to be 100% otherwise dont send him.

No one likes the idea of gather round. What could’ve been 70-80K at the G, instead may only be 10-20K at Adelaide oval. Same with pies and saints.
Does anyone know what % of revenue goes to the clubs for this round?

I thought it was a sold out game already? Granted AO is only a 50k ground.

I like the gather round. It's more footy. I love footy. If the game wasn't played in Adelaide it wouldn't be played at all.

clubs get a guaranteed amount.....around 800k per club... I suspect the gate receipts go to the underwriter and the stadium

Didn't I read somewhere that the SA government is paying the AFL $10m for the rights to hold this round? And did I also read that each club will get $500,000? Or am I thinking of something else?

It still doesn't explain why the competition has been expanded so that each team now plays 23 home and away games, though.

Personally, I think it's a stupid idea but I am sure the spinners and their media acolytes will tell us next week that it was a huge success, whatever happens.
