I'm going to counter by suggesting that Goodwin has always been innovative and flexible, but he is also an astute judge of whether the flexibility would work.

It's possible that the type of flexibility punters were calling for would have caused worse results!

The times when he was called "inflexible" have been when we've had key players injured or out of form and he was inflexible for "not bringing in players players from Casey". Maybe he made judgements that an injured Gawn is a better option than a bball rookie, or an out of form TMac was more likely to find form than a first year undersized kid.

 

Other times he's been called inflexible have been when he sticks with a game plan the players have learnt for 3 years, hoping that the work with pay off, instead of throwing it out and hoping they'll catch on to something new in a single week. 

 

What some people call inflexible or stubborn, others might call pragmatic, realistic and risk based.

In a game of percentages at the elite level, Hail Mary's rarely pay off

Just adding to the comments on Chandler’s game, doubt it was shown on the TV coverage, but for his goal around the middle of the third quarter, he was in the backline when we gained possession and then he sprinted from half back down the Warne Stand side to half forward Punt Rd end but his lead got ignored, so he continued to sprint to the half forward spot on the Members side to take that mark resulting in his goal. Tremendous effort, got the reward and if he keeps doing those sort of things, he’ll be getting plenty of games this year.

I can't believe how many DL posters have bought into the false narrtiave that goody is 'stubborn', not innovative and is inflexible.

Don't even get me started on Goody has his favorites, or (insert player here) must have incrinimating photos palaver (yes i know that is supposed to be a joke - but it is a joke that aims to make a particular point)

There are are number of examples of his innvation and flexibilty, inlcuding, but not limited to:

• his innovative diamond structure in 2017
• to the ultra fast, wave running ball movement in 2018 (not unlike everyobe scurrent darlngs, the pies)
• His use of players running off the half back at cetre bounces in 2018
• The shifytin 2019 to developing a cutting edge zone defence thta has become the foundation of our game (he persisted with this in the face of his critics and the losses we endured that year)
• His embrace of the Burgess philosophy to preparation and the reulting focus on ultra fitness (which, for exmaple the Cats openly said they copied last year)  
• The way we control momentum - our ability to score multiple goals in a short space of time is clealry not a happy accident; as they like to say in the dstates, it is a feature not a bug (irds worh noting that this ability to score quickly can be connected back to our scoring power in 2018
• His use of two ruckman - remmber the falck he copped for recriting pruess?
• Coaching from the bench
• His selction of Bowey in 2021
• Chasing and gettng Grunby
• The tweaks to our game plan this season
• I could go on, but you gte the drift

After the GF 2021 there was a recording of Goody' comments on the boundary to players interchanging during the period when doggies were on top.

He didn't sound worried. Simple, repetitive (highly paraphrased) "stick to the plan". No panic, sudden changes just maintain the plan. And he was rewarded.

One thing that stood out for me was where we were taking our shots on goal from. Most seemed within 30 and slight angles. 
I’ll need to watch the full replay but watching it live they seemed to be always from a good spot.

Chandler was great. At the game, I was impressed with the effort of JJ, as well. He was not phantastique but he did try some things that sparked interest and was solid in some defensive efforts. More experience for him, please! I can imagine both Chandler and JJ being a rather varied, potent and successful tag-team on the forward line.

Just watched the replay, am I being overly sensitive or was BT and to a lesser extent, Cameron Ling, actively barracking for the swans? I felt like they were pumping up everything the swans did, and talking us down at every opportunity.
