MCL Injury to Max Gawn

Best possible outcome from that incident (excluding no injury at all)….no ACL, no medial meniscus, no joint surface trauma. No legacy either once it’s healed. He’ll be good as new, ready to hoist the Cup (assuming the rest of the team can atone for last night, and play like we know they can). Rehab is straightforward, and lucky for Max, he loves cycling. 👍🏻

I think Jack might be breathing a sigh of relief to. I know he didn't mean it but knowing you're responsible for essentially taking out your captain for the year wouldn't feel great.

But if we can do well and get a rested max back for the second half of the year then look out.

The ‘Footy Gods’ are smiling on us, compared to what it might have been.  So, so relieved!

Watching the replays, I was more worried that, just prior to the Viney impact, Max had jumped and landed slightly awkwardly on his left and seemed to flinch a little. Just the kind of innocuous event that sees an ACL. Glad it was Jack after all, if you see what I mean!

I sort of get the mfcss being a 50+ year demon supporter, but c’mon everyone can be we just try and enjoy the next few years at least rather than default to glass half empty every time?

although we were [censored] last night we were still favourites before the game (fair enough given our recent interstate record). That in itself seems weird to type!

As Petracca said in the post game interview (talking about the last 12 minutes) words to the effect ‘we had nothing to lose, didn’t give an eff, took on the game’

That is the formula for 2023 (unfortunately the Ferals are very good at it). The team no matter who is playing going forward, need to play like that, take the game on, play fast footy, back themselves in.

This is the thing. Aside from last night, which was clearly a statistical anomaly, our midfield will keep winning stoppages and being able to defend and transition defensively. So we need to be ultra aggressive going the other way. We have enough good kickers down back now to attack the corridor and change the angles more readily.

I hope we take the game on more, because even when we do, we don't leak goals. Let's hope this is the go from here on out.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
