GREAT START!

We were missing 4 of our top 10 but the rest of the boys stood up. Kozzie, Lever, Trac awesome. Judd awesome start. Great to see BBB get 4. Grundy worked a treat first up.

BUT, what I loved was how we were still running and hungry at the end. We could easily have rested in the last 5-10 minutes. We did that a lot last year. Not tonight. We put ‘em away.

Once the machine is firing. We get a few back, Grundy is full power, we are gonna be scary.

Great job, boys!

Be a while since 4 in the middle of the song.

Trac changed the game in the second quarter I thought.
My favourite play was in the second when Grundy roved off the pack, did an underground handball to Langdon and Lingers centred it to Spargo.

Spargs and Kozzie electric.

Great performance. Grundy will get better with more games as he learns the tap locations.

Just sour to lose Kozzy for a couple of weeks.

  • Demonland changed the title to POSTGAME: Rd 01 vs Western Bulldogs

As I said in the game day.

We own a good amount of land in the doggies head!

McVee is good, very good. I feel more comfortable with the ball in his hands than hard the side.

As Yazz sang - the only way is up!

add Viney, Ron barassi’s number, Salem and May

mix slowly

put in oven

bake for 3 months

as BT says woweeeeee

mcVee was super handy

Some great signs.

Defence was rock-solid. Tomlinson was fantastic. Had my worries about May being out but that proved to be unfounded. Tommo deserves high praise.

Maxy, best ruckman of my lifetime hands down. I’ve never seen another ruckman cause as much damage, as consistently, as he does. So adding Grundy on top of that is absurd.

Couldn’t ask anymore than a 50 point win!!!

[censored] yeah lads!!

I'm putting my hand up, Tomlinson was bloody excellent!

McVee looks a beauty. Moves like Ricky Petterd but looks a great kick!

I thought I was the only one who thinks he's the 2nd coming of the Pet.

Luke Jackson was great in support of Gawn again but I don’t like his new look with the man bun.

I wont underestimate the Dees again this season. If you can win with four guns out against supposedly good opposition then you have significant depth.

Great to hear Tomlinson played well.

Probably will play next Friday.May can rest up. Well done McVee. Anything about Laurie?

I’m on the Covid princess cruise ship piiiiised as a faaaasrt. Managed to see a live feed of the game. WE ARE CONTENDERS!!! I’ll be home for our next home game . Over and out. GO DEES!!!

Kozzy is a genuine superstar now. Please offer whatever he wants Tim Lamb.

Trac, Oliver and Gawn just changed the game when they decided to put their foot down.

McVee is genuinely cool and calm under the heat. With more experiences and game he'll get better and apply himself with much more confidence. Jason Taylor has unpacked another gem.

Good to see Benny Brown up and about. 4 snags is a good start

Lever was BOG down back alongside Tomlinson and Bowey.

Just an overall great team performance.

Unfortunately Oskar Baker and Mitch Hannan are VFL standard footballers. Still amazed Baker got given another chance at AFL level.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

  • PREGAME: Gold Coast

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
