It’s a shame that Max couldn’t make FF his own. Some of his marks tonight were top-shelf, he just couldn’t kick it to himself 50m down the field.

He might have to try and make it work next week. I can't see a world where Grundy doesn't come in if JVR gets suspended.

My thoughts also

Grundy just has to play next week

If it means Gawn forward then we need to give it another go, we have no options

Our game style makes it a hard days night for any forward, with the get it in and lock it down attitude, there are often 34 players in the arc.  Maybe grundy is not the answer, but he may have to do if the cupboard really is bare.

Midfield depth and a change of game style with our forward entries is what needs to occur over the off season

As you know,  they grow on trees - get Jason Taylor to shake the orchard a little and 47 Curnows will fall out.

Seen some articles indicating Duursma at Port is gettable for the right price. Would be a great addition and we may be able to work something out with Grundy in play. Kind of player we sorely need.

Now that is interesting Re the news on McAdams. There must be a specific reason for that trade and I am assuming it is something to do with the functioning of the forward line. Melbourne must have offered some certainties around his position as he has knocked back a 2 year deal from an up and coming team in Adelaide.

He fell out with the medical staff at Adelaide.

Perennially injured and can’t kick but he’d at least offer fresh legs on the wing and is strong overhead.

We don't need 47 Curnows, just needed to select the one that was available to us at pick 9 a few years ago.

We could do worse than bring in a pair of Duursma’s at the end of the trade & draft period.

Think I just read somewhere that Duursma is staying at Port.

We definitely want Duursma and I believe we want his brother too - which Hawthorn could have something to say about.

Could there be silver lining in Norf potentially getting pick #3 as compensation for McKay....opens up the possibility of them splitting the pick ahead of the Hawks.

Is there any substance in the Lynch rumours?

Don't mind Duursma from Port. Would be an upgrade on the likes of Jordon.

We need a forward line of actual forwards, in their prime, in all structural positions. We are making do with resting mids (CP5), out of position defensive runners (ANB, Spargo), youth (Chandler, Pickett, JVR), and injured talls (TMac, Brown).

And before anyone tells at me for ANB - he is playing a box to box role that is inherently played away from the forward line…

So Fritsch is a bit lonely as a forward who is actually a forward, in his prime, and (relatively) healthy.

We are just so easily bottled up.

We had the low fruit of Curnow or McKay available for us to pick in their draft year when we were building a list, the perfect time to grab one for ripening in the fruit bowl

But alas...

Liam Henry has chosen the Saints as his new club.

Better option than the Hawks IMO

Almost certain. Dunstan - delisted x

Highly likely. Hibberd to retire. x

Highly likely. BBB to retire  x

Probable. Harmesy to stay one more year. 🤔
Probable. Melksham. One year deal. 🤔
Possible   TMCD to obviously consider retirement though he’s internal determination means he’s likely to give it one more year   🤔

Uncertain future. Bailey Laurie.   x

Unrestricted free agent  James Jordon to go x . I think he’ll look at offers and look to get more certainty and support like Bedford did.

Trade options for Dees.

1. Grundy  - obviously the talk is there and it will have to be explored   x

2. Tomlinson - not given chances by Goody so like Hunt/Bedford , he’ll likely select to look elsewhere x

3. Spargo - up for goal assists but not enough direct goals and defensively not achieving chase downs or indirect pressure (1 tackle average per game) most likely to stay but if these any trading discussions he’d have to be involved 🤔

Probably 5-6 list spots available.  Like to see Dees look at youth through the draft (3-4 youngsters) plus adding 2-3 players in trade deals to fill some gaps

Why is Bailey Laurie under uncertain future when he's contracted for another year...

Had a good look at Duursma in tonight’s game. Just no. I remember him being the best out of the lot of the youngsters they picked up in the 2019 draft. What happened to him.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
