Does Kade make the grade, or will it be Chandlermonium

Great discussion point DS, thanks!
I love Chandler’s loyalty, persistence, work ethic and pressure on the ball carrier, but at this stage, I’m just not convinced that he has that special ‘spark / edge’ that separates the good small forwards from the ‘rest’.  Given the likely tall(ish) structure of our forward half, and the projected midfield time of Kozzi, I think we need to have an opportunistic, creative and clever small forward, who will be at the feet of marking contests, and frequently capitalise when the ball (inevitably as it will) hits the deck.
I just haven’t seen that sort of flair or magic from Chandler.  Less than even money from me at this stage, but it would be huge for us if I’m wrong.  Go Chin!

There is some rubbish in here about the match committee and Goody...

Seriously we didn't have the depth last year to make the changes required to get the season on track.

The Casey premiership gave many the delusion of depth.

I like Chandler.

But, there are areas of his game where he tries far too many times in either trying to break tackles or tries to do too much and coughs it up.

Take that into account his lack of pace as a small forward then he has some serious work to do in breaking into that best 22 on a weekly basis.

I do love his defensive pressure and intensity and that'll win Goody's heart if he maintains this consistently.

Get where you are comming from in part.

I'm not so much one for chipping Goody and the selection pannel for their mantra of maintaining stability within the senior side, but it also did feel a bit at times last season that we perhaps could have used our opportunities to rotate more player's through the senior side at times.

I'd agree though, that during our mid season slump in particular our depth was tested and strained by having a number of players out at once, like Gawn, Jackson, May, T Mac and perhaps Viney/Trac?/Oliver miss over a period of a month or so, which I think really hurt in retrospect.

I'm also glad we didn't throw in JvR into the finals pressure cooker in desperation.

Don't think our Casey Premiership counts for nothing in terms of depth though.

If you read some of the recient comments from Alan Richardson, I think there's a bit of an admission that perhaps the team and coaching pannel went a bit too conservative and defensive in the back half of last year and perhaps weren't will to take risks that could have created better energy in the second half of games etc.  I think the team selection aspect could be part of that conversation.

I believe we have had a golden Pre-season but there are 4 weeks to go. I predict there may be small niggles over the next short period across 3 or 4 and any one puts him in the frame. That will mean Chandler gets another go. Im buying.

In his 10 AFL games to date he has been very ordinary never getting more than four kicks. He's never looked even close. At 23, coaches don't tend to give you a block of games to see what you can do. With Bedford gone he's probably next in line but has to make an immediate impact.

Doesn't have the tools to make it at AFL level - too small, not quick enough and doesn't find enough of the football.

That he managed to get himself suspended in less than 10 minutes of game time in his last appearance doesn't say much for him either.

I think we can do much better.

I have Kade at $1.75 he is on the verge, he has the determination and talent to make the grade, needs some luck and when he gets his chances has to perform better than the players that he replaces. Agree also that he could play the Sub role when an extra small is needed. Kade needs to play 7 - 10 games in 2023 or look for a new home depending on who stays and who goes.!!!

I've met him and he's a ripper and that might be clouding my judgement but not only do I want him to make it I think he will.

He's been good all PS and although it's not the real thing he's still competing against and with top end talent and doing well.  I don't see the lack of pace that many have talked about but I might be wrong.  His ball handling in the wet in the GF last year was elite and he was a clear BOG to half time when the game was in the balance.  His kicking is very good, his hands are good and over his 3 or 4 years he's coming to understand what he can and can't do.  Also, this PS his tackling, in the full on sims that I've seen, has been a highlight.

So I'm buying.  I think he can take ANB's spot because I think what we might lose in aerobic capacity we gain two fold in skills and scoring potential.  I think too many judge young kids who play low possession positions that are heavily defensive related on possessions in their early games.  This kid will leave no stone unturned to succeed and I'm hoping he gets a go with us and develops the confidence to succeed.

Heck yes, Goodwin wins a flag with a stack of players under 22 and there’s an idea that he won’t play kids or try new players.

They didn’t throw JVR to the wolves. Hardly an unreasonable choice.

They gave Bedford a decent go, he wasn’t up to it last year. Maybe, just maybe Chandler could’ve had another go but that’s about it.

No other young player was worthy of games and no one was seriously clamouring for Dunstan or Sauce Baker were they.

I don’t believe. $1.00. He has never translated Casey form to AFL grade. I would love to be proved wrong.

Hasn't really been given a plethora of chances.

I'm always heartened when people use this word.  It means a lot.

Chandlermonium as a derivation of pandemonium?

According to 'demons' Wiki  "Pandæmonium" or "Pandemonium" stems from the Gk. "παν", meaning "all" or "every", and "δαιμόνιον", a diminutive form meaning "little spirit", "little angel", or, as Christians interpreted it, "little daemon", and later, demon. It roughly translates as "All Demons", but can also be interpreted as Παν-δαιμον-ειον, Pandemoneios or "all-demon-place".

So if our little angel Kade doesn't make it this season it could be paradise lost?

Chandler will be a revelation for us this year imo.

He has mastered his VFL apprenticeship and is chomping at the bit to play and he'll play like a madman to keep his spot.

Crafty, smart, tough and skilled. What he lacks in elite speed he makes up in all other facets. He has a desire to defend and pressure and what this will do to allow Pickett to get off the chain will materialise through the course of the season.

I love him, always have.

about the same as bedford last year, who failed to make the most of opportunities and regressed when back in the vfl

chandler showed SLIGHTLY more in the back half of the 2022 vfl season but ultimately still strikes as a good vfl level player, not an afl one

And yet Bedford was offered a 3 year deal and took one at GWS. Doesn't this value him at $3 on @DeeSpencer scale?

IMO Chandler is certain to be offered at least a 2 year extension this year so that values him $2 on the scale. He's part of the squad of 28 or more players we need to contend, even if he doesn't play every game.

Like Bedford he might leave for more opportunity elsewhere.

Dees need to give Kade his big chance this year. Love his pace and tackling but importantly his ability to kick 40+ for goal.  His goal sense will be a big plus if he gets the chance. Hopefully they don’t change his attitude to handball rather than take the chance to kick the goal.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
