We won’t be seeing the best of him (2021 from) until late year now. Need to rework our halfback line as a result IMO. Rivers and Bowey will need to step up.

Not good news but obviously better now than in the middle of the season. 

Would be pretty miserable trying to complete full training sessions with an overactive thyroid. Hopefully it settles quickly and he’s able to keep good fitness.

If he’s not right for round 1 do we go with Brayshaw down back like last year OR do we go for a more like for like replacement in Salem’s mop up and quick short kicking game and go with Hunter at half back?

I’d be experimenting with both options in the match sim/ practice games. 

Surely Bowey is the most like-for-like?

What other Club would have Rivers Brayshaw Bowey and McVee as alternatives replacements or in their best 23 for their half back line. ? 

Having  said that Salo is still the best disposer off half back and could still be missed if out for part of he season. 

I have no doubt any of the four will accept the challenge and be at their best if called upon.

Angus could get nod with Riv and Bowser in the 23. 

Brayshaw is another option, but he clearly doesn't have the disposal skills of Salem. Bowey is definitely the best option.

 

Hopefully they sort this out quickly because Salem is a class player who is vital to our backline.

The worst part is that it's more of a 'we'll see how it goes' thing. Fingers crossed that they can get him back on track to 100%.

Here is an article from June 2016 when Salem was edging closer to a return from a thyroid issue. The article refers to him going back on medications he took in 2014 when a similar problem surfaced.

I assume the club and his doctors are on top of it.

On that basis, presuming they got to it earlier than last time and it's not worse this time, he's 2 months until being able to 'return to play'.

but with brayshaw, rivers, bowey to play back alongside hibberd and the three talls, we can cover for the time being i hope

In further good news on the injury front for the Demons, Heritier Lumumba (concussion), Sam Weideman (hip flexor), Lynden Dunn (hamstring) and Cameron Pedersen (illness) will all be available to play following Melbourne's bye.

Young forward Jay Kennedy-Harris, who injured his hamstring for the third time this season after tweaking it at training a fortnight ago, remains four weeks away from a return.

Rookie Joel Smith (groin) faces a similar timeframe for his recovery.

Interesting who is no longer there, and who is sill on the injury list1

Never good to be missing a best 22 player, but happy that we have Bowey who should be ready to play the role.

I'm excited to see how Rivers is progressing too. He should be aiming to solidify his spot in back half over Brayshaw or Hibberd this year.

Hoping Salem isn't out for long though. He never seems to get a good consistent run without injury of some kind

Howes could eventually be a high half back but this seems unlikely this year we have Salem, Brayshaw, Rivers and Bowey competing for those roles. Surely you're kidding about McVee. I watched most games & he did absolutely nothing at Casey & was well behind several Casey listed players in effectiveness.

I reckon McVee May be the bolter! But how unlike is that for Goody.? No risk.

That would be in 2 seasons ONlY 3 CHANGES from 2021 Grand Final.

Jacko Jordon and Bowey  OUT 

and Hunter Grundy and Van Rooyen  IN.

I don't like that it's only 3 and really hope that Jordon Bowey Chandler Howes Turner McVee and Wowoedin bridge the gap over the season and earn their place. 

I don't  think JJ and Bowser have slipped and feel that form last year it was ANB Spargo and others like Lever and Salem  who were played injured. Hibbo was fine in 2022 IMO contrary to one other poster.

So Bowey Chandler and JJ or some new blood for ANB Spargo and Hibbo/Salem depending upon fitness and form.

But seriously, as far as I see the article didn't say how long he would take to get back to 100% - he is undoubtedly in the hands of an expert endocrinologist and may be able to get on track pretty quickly especially given the early diagnosis.

What are you basing this on though? I don't get down to see training but haven't heard much in the forums here to suggest he has improved on last year in a meaningful way. I didn't see anything last year to suggest he is anywhere near getting a game.

His best output in a season was 8 games in 2018. He played the third man up interceptor role when Lever went down with an ACL. He averaged 11 disposals a game in that role, was in and out of the team while they tried Fritsch in that role and ultimately got injured again for a chunk of the year again. Without being cruel, he’s the definition of lucky. He’d be gone at any other club you’d feel as he’s clogged a list for 8 years now without ever getting on the park properly or even cementing a best position or role.

May not bolt into early round teams but by years end could have developed into HB flanker. 

One of the track watchers posted how smooth he looked going about his training along with another player who I can't remember.  So I reckon he may be a bolter if he develops quickly. Has put on weight and let's just wait and see. Some youngsters can develop amazingly in one year with another pre season under their belt.

Having predicted this  the inside mail is on Taj taking the next step based on his training ethics which are very impressive. 

We must get some players out of the '21 draft. JVR looks the best but it's harder on a key position of course. Howes also has his admirers, but some are stupidly saying too light to get a game!!! Bowser was a few kilos on the light side and didn't stop him when he got his big unbeaten winning run of 17!!

plenty of youngsters showing promise so Casey might be even better this year!!
