Can you imagine the state of Rundle Mall at midnight? a selection of hardcore fans from all teams....

Honestly, thatโ€™ll be a massive improvement.

ย

Not sure how I feel about being the warm up act for Port v Dogs. If an entrance ticket allows you to watch both games will we see the supporters and cheer squads of three Melbourne based teams all shoehorned into the grassed hill at the scoreboard end?ย

and lots of people will catch Covid and the following round will be scrapped.

Have I mentioned how much I despise the people who run the game?

Rab are you going?ย  I would never go to Adelaide to the footy. I went once not long after The crows joined the comp. Their fans made the pies and bombers look like choir boys. What a rabid lot.ย

So when is the fixture actually going to be released? Before the new year?

Itโ€™s a very difficult equation for the AFL. They have the following to consider.

1./ When is the best time to maximise interference with other sports codes. After the 1st ball of the boxing day test is the latest idea.ย

2./ How do we maximise the length of time we can drip feed the information.

3./ How do we most successfully hide the mammoth inequalities of a rigged draw favouring the biggest clubs.ย

4./ How long will it take Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon and Richmond to get bk to approve ย the exact amount of advantage weโ€™ve given them.ย

ย

So we get North Melbourne and Hawthorn twice - massive win. Both likely to finish bottom 4. Can't see how either can pull anything out to prevent that.

We also have Brisbane Lions, Richmond, Sydney and Carlton twice too. Likely to all be top 8 sides, maybe even top 6. That's relatively though.

Slightly better run home too in our last 5 games than this year - (r.20) Richmond), (r.21) North, (r.22) Carlton, (r.23) Hawthorn, (r.24) Sydney. The last the only potentially troubling road trip.

Freo with double ups against Bulldogs, Sydney, Geelong, Brisbane, West Coast, Hawthorn

#deathride

Am I right in thinking it looks a touch more forgiving than last season?

Us not playing West Coast at the MCG is rapidly closing in on the 6000+ days Essendon has gone without a finals win.ย

So, home games that will make us money:-ย

ย

rd 1 vs WBD

rd 6 vs Richmond (Anzac Eve)

Rd 12 vs Carlton (Friday Night)

Rd 13 vs Collingwood (Kingโ€™s Birthday)

Rd 23 vs Hawthorn *ย

ย

The rest of our MCG home games are against interstate sides. We can probably expect to make a bit from the Sydney and Brisbane games. Not much from the others.ย
ย

Itโ€™s a bit meh, and getting Geelong down there was inevitableโ€ฆ

the sides we draw twice seem fair, given where we finished the season

1 more interstate game than last year? Is that right?ย

ย

Geelong did well.ย
hashtag no surprise.ย
We get the pleasure of playing them at that [censored]-hole on a Thursday night again. Yay!

Round 24: Sydney in Sydney ๐Ÿคฌ

At least we haven't done that very often lately.ย

Geelong in geelongย

West coast in Perth.ย

North in tassie.

Of all interstate games we could have gotten, itโ€™s probably the best result. I expect Sydney to be below what they were in 2022. Plus, itโ€™s a short flight and played on a small ground

Six of our last eight games are in Melbourne I believe which is excellent.ย
ย

A complete contrast to this yearโ€™s disaster of Adelaide-Geelong-Alice-Docklands-Perth in the second half of the year.

Itโ€™s an awesome fixture for us financially and who we play.

ignore geelong in geelong which was always gonna happen.

13 games at the g is one more than itโ€™s been for the past few years.

Double ups against north and hawthorn are a huge win.

Double ups against Richmond Carlton will give us greater crowd averages

big run of games at the g at the end of the year is great too.

Financially we only make coin off home games. Whilst you note that the crowd averages for the double ups against Richmond and Carlton will be good, that adds nothing to the bottom line. Very few money making games against Victorian clubs, which is the same as it has been for the past few seasons

Sorry WCW, but I'm actually so happy to finally have a game in Sydney since I'm NSW based!ย  It means at least one guaranteed game I'll see in person ๐Ÿ˜Š

I live here so itโ€™s a win for family, especially after no Sydney game last year.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

Itโ€™s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle โ€“ perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
