  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If 66,484 at the end of last year is the comparable number - you will need to change the thread to Products Tally....

At end of July 2022 we had 59,700 individual members. Happy for you and the Club to keep using the higher number (because the other Clubs probably do the same). Just the thread name isn't correct.....

WTF are you talking about??

If i buy 6 memberships and pay for them it is 6 Memberships.

Money in the Bank….

Maybe an example would help. A rusted-on generous Demon buys or renews 4 Redlegs or Trident memberships for the family. The same member joins the President's Club for a year and takes out a player sponsorship. My understanding is that the Club (or more specifically the AFL as it all runs through Ticketmaster) will then count that as 6 'memberships' or 'products', even though there are only 4 humans involved.

Great for the Club - good money - and I suspect the same for all Clubs. If the system stays unchanged the larger membership number published by the Clubs and the AFL will always run ahead of the actual number of members by, in our case, over 10% (the difference between 66,484 and 59,700. That's just the way it is - no drama I guess?

Let's see what numbers George is able to gather this year.......

I know the example is hypothetical but the number of 'additional' memberships from that source(s) are so few that the impact on membership numbers is negligible.

@Its Time for Anotherdo you still have the contact in 'Memberships' at the club to obtain the latest figure - it seems they have forgotten to update it to this year.

ps Really like your name change.  Agree: Its Time for Another!!

That was just an example. Examples like that expalin the difference of 6,774 (over 10%) - not negligible.

From the MFC itself:

'There are approximately 59,700 MFC members (this differs from the number of
66,484 published on the AFL website due to several individuals holding multiple
memberships)'

I have 17 children, four wives and 2 Cats who all have MFC memberships... So is that one membership as counted by the MFC ?

Hi Luci I just rang the membership number. No specific contact. They were always happy to give me the current number.
it took 13 years on here for my originall name It's Time to become redundant. I'm still basking in that glory. But it's nice to think about another. Although my wife wants to go O/S next Sept the only time she'll be free so I could still miss actually seeing one.

Members vs Memberships numbers was covered in this thread

I don't see much point repeating the discussion here.

So what if the actual member numbers differ from memberships? As SWYL stated, the Club (in fact all Clubs) benefits from the number of memberships sold. As all clubs are measured this way, I don’t see the issue, and cannot understand why you are making such a big deal about it.

So what, your examples would apply to all clubs, just trying to stir up more garbage.

You haven't followed the entire thread sir.

Great for the Club - good money - and I suspect the same for all Clubswas my earlier post.

Just looking for the truth (for us, the AFL and all Clubs) - I am sure George will get that from the Club eventually....

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
