According to Damian Barrett the plan may have been hatched on Lindsay Fox's recent birthday cruise from NYC to  Montreal:

Purple is a bit behind the times.  I thought it was obvious from the start:

So they decide to sack him having effectively recruited his replacement.  They let the man believe he had a chance when he didn't and they knew it.  They still made him beg for his job.  Then hit him for six.

Why would they put a good man who gave his all through that sort of torment.  The least they could have done was give him a heads up after the season ended or when Bassat came back from the cruise on Lindsay Fox's boat when it seems they hatched their plan.

Yes, Lindsay Fox, the font of all football knowledge. This has got disaster written all over it.

Saints will Saint. Gotta love 'em!

Didn't he sack Mike Patterson after two St. Kilda players went hard at the ball, but bumped each other out of the contest? Clearly very knowledgeable on footy matters @KLV. Wonder if he has a persona on 'Land - certainly wouldn't be out of his depth here. Or would he?

And Misson as fitness coach 🤣

I wonder Lyon's KPIs will be.

The saints list is a total shambles.

Demographics are all over the place in terms of age and games played spread.

Their budding superstar in King seems to suffer from the yips and is still 2-3 years away from his peak.

Ryder is a big loss, tellingly even at his age.

Marshall is a good player, but platued last season, and will now have to carry ruck duties.

They lack key defenders and have a c grade midfield.

But most of all they simply do t have enough real A graders.

In that sense they remind me of the dees under Neeld. A bunch of b graders with questiable work ethic and therefore poor fitness.

Not much neeld could have done with that list. And not much Lyon will be able to do.

Given the trade period is finished Lyon is stuck with this list, at least for th3 next season, unlike the hawks who have gone down the total rebuild route and so have a strong hand in this and next year's draft.

I really hope that when they have their press conference they openly state where they expect to finish in the next couple of years. It feels like a club that doesn’t realise how far away they are from challenging for a premiership. Their list is so middle of the road it’s not funny and as you say their top end talent just doesn’t stack up against most teams.

Their recruitment has stuffed up. Thats where the clean out is required

Ratten did a reasonable job in the circumstances. Too good actually because that finals appearance and good start to last year gave a false impression of where their list was at. The dangers of exceeding expectations

Tha said i am looking forward to seeing how Lyon goes this time around. Will be fun watching the train wreck unfold

Correct. And the other coaches at the time said they'd rather two blokes crash into each other than both stand back and wait for the other to do something. But King Lindsay must have his private beach way.

  • Demonland changed the title to Saints Sack Ratten & Appoint Lyon as Coach

Very defensive coach.  Teams aren't playing like that anymore so it will be interesting to see what game plan he come up with

First sign of madness, talking to oneself...

(Just a little one everyone missed there. Big 👍, as usual, to everyone for the funandfootyness in this thread!)

Thommo the Tank Engine?

What an inspiring choice, to coach an uninspiring team.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
