Same winning  percentage as Goodwin at 57% and more Grand Finals  which was obviously  the point I was responding to.

You are probably one of the blokes who think Geelong were " losers" for only  being perpetual contenders after they had their first Dynasty and before this next one.

Hilarious

Much more interesting pressers from Lyon (and Scott) as  well for anyone  with a sense of humour

Valid points. What I will say re Ross Lyon is that he led a dominant team that were with a kick of winning two grand finals. There is a good argument that he did almost everything right and was a bit unlucky to not have won a Premiership.

So must be Ross Lyon if they are not going through a recruitment process??

You have to feel sorry for Brett Ratten.  He's had a tough week and it isn't getting any better.

According to Channel 9, he's now also been sacked by Essendon.

It's the only way he will get a gig...he seems allergic to recruitment processes.

After listening to the SEN segment above, it seems Lyon was not the shafted one...Just more of St Kilda's notion of how not to go about appointing coaches, witness Watson, Blight, Thomas etc etc

Lyon shafted the saints, no the other way around, was my recollection.

Essendon are now ranked "elite" in the sacking category.

Everyone thought they had peaked when they started sacking people the day after they were appointed.

But now they're sacking them even before they're appointed.

If they learn to deliver this level of efficiency on the field, look out!

My understanding was Lyon thought that the Saints were going to shaft him so he shafted them back first.  (Very Patrick White)

I think Jack Dyer famously said, "retaliate first".

That was a caller on SEN today called Rumour Ron. Declared that he would name the new coach on Thursday and it wasn't Lyon. Hinted that Choco would be manager and mentor for Yze.

From what I have read he was a cranky old astarbar, always falling out with friends even if he had to fabricate the dispute;  got in first and gave them the flick.  Probably didnt want to give anyone the satisfaction of ending the friendship first.  Miserable old 'german biscuit'.

It's interesting that Ratten was at Hawthorn from 2012 to 2018. It doesn't make alot of sense that he was offered a 2 year contract extension mid-season and then terminated a few months later by the very people who extended his contract.  Might be a coincidence but maybe not.

I have this nagging feeling that Ratten might take the heat for the Hawthorn issues. AFL is too invested in Clarko saving North and Fagan is out of sight, out of mind.

Understand it's serious tinfoil hat area, just agree that it seems a little too coincidental

Haha…Rumour Ron is one of my bosses here at work. Don’t think he’s nailed anything before and he’s adamant Lyon won’t be coaching the Saints.

It's like that, I guess. I am a huge Lou Reed and Raymond Carver fan. When I read biographies of them, I wish I hadn't. I have Marr's White biography....

Don't know Raymond Carver, but Lou Reed and Patrick White were pretty unpleasant individuals.

Tree of Man the The Vivisector are great books. Voss (the book, not the footballer/coach) is a very dreary book.

I never finished Voss. Carver was a short story writer who died in 1988 or so. He, more than anyone, has influenced my writing...He was great at celebrating the ordinary things of life: bottom line domestic stories...

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
