The way I see it is, we have two options: re-sign him or let him go.

ET i've been thinking about this for three pages of reading and im still struggling to work out in any circumstance where theres any other option than the two you've suggested. and its cracking me up, your forensic analysis of hunt is essentially the only decisions we could possibly make on him or any other player on our list. like its so black and white but i have enjoyed a little giggle

EAGLES MOVE CLOSER TO SECURING DEMON

West Coast has ramped up its bid for Demons speedster Jayden Hunt, reports 9 News Perth.

Hunt, who played 20 games in 2021 but missed out on the club’s premiership win after an a late-season ankle injury, made another 20 senior appearances this year.

AFL Media reported last week the Eagles had shown interest in Hunt.

9 News Perth reported on Tuesday night that Eagles coach Adam Simpson had met Hunt, who’s an unrestricted free agent, meaning he’d cost nothing for a rival club to pick up.

Hunt remains unsigned at Melbourne despite a strong 2022 campaign for the club.

The 27-year-old, if he headed west, would add much needed speed to a West Coast list that has come under fire this year for its lack of fitness.

“They’ve had two years of being the most unfit team I’ve seen for a long, long while,” former recruiter Matt Rendell told AFL Trade Radio.

The free agency window opens on Friday.

Only backman that generated any run. Compo will be negligible. Would prefer to keep.

If he leaves, we can blame the Ill-fated 500k Tomlinson 4th year that 95% of us demonlanders thought would initially come back to bite us eventually.

Maybe we didn't give him encouragement to stay...

I suspect his decision will be based on which club shows the most love ($ and years). He's best 22 and played 20 games in each of the past 2 years. He won't be leaving for more opportunity.

If we've offered him a lowball contract, then in some ways we are "palming him off".

Playing 40 of 49 games across the past two years, including missing games through injury in late 2021, suggests Jayden is clearly a best 22 player. Our VFL depth is so poor, we can't afford to be losing best 22 players for nothing, as there are no replacements coming through. I really hope we make him a decent offer and he chooses to stay. I would hate to be relying on a 33 year old Hibberd or a brittle Smith to be playing many games next year, and I'm not sure we can afford to have Bowey in that role long term.

Form me I would rather keep Bedford, however we will lose a bit of run and pace out of the backline if Hunt goes. Not sure who replaces that ? Bowey is the one currently on our list I suppose. Also Hunt was playing some good lock down roles earlier in the season so I think he would be missed for sure.

Hunt can put a group of good games together but imo he is not consistent enough to put a high quality season together. Whether he switches off during games or just lacks some awareness I’m not sure.

a good player that I’ll miss but he is replaceable

Don’t really agree with the comments around us losing his run and pace. He has been playing mostly lock down defender. I reckon he was told to not take the game on in general as he often causes turnovers

Very well liked memeber of the club. He is not in our best 18 thats for sure. I just ahte seeing team first players leave. I hope he stays, but if he goes then thats life. Could Bedford turn into a running back? I doubt it. Salem Bowey Hibbo, May, Lever  Petty.

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int

    POSTGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood

The Dees played insipid, error riddled & uninspiring footy all night and in a lightning delayed match they eventually succumbed to Collingwood by 46 points at the MCG in the final game of the year. Thank God this season is finally over. Bring on 2025.
