Oliver has been the leagues best player the past couple of years. But we have others taking votes from him. He’ll still win one, because like Ablett jr, he is just that good.

That’s fair. We were comprehensively outplayed that game. The margin flattered us more than any other game this season.

And yet we were in front at half time but couldn't scrape a 1-vote result; unlike Neale in R23 that did eff all towards bringing his side out of the fire. I reckon the loss of May and injury to Petty flattered them rather than us being comprehensively outplayed.

When the lawyers and the specialist medicos can determine the tribunal outcomes, we know that the system is flawed and in need of urgent repairs.

Where is the procedural fairness and natural justice for the concussed victim who will miss at least one game? Where is the procedural fairness and natural justice for Neale?

It's a farce.

Off the ground, head contact, concussion. Dozens of times we've seen guys suspended even when the football loving public thought it unwarranted, because "the head is sacrosanct".

But no, Cripps was denied procedural fairness. After being permitted to appeal the MRP decision, front a tribunal hearing and then being permitted to appeal the  tribunal decision. Unfair.

It is truly outrageous isn’t it. He is a great player, no question, but he certainly should be ineligible for The Best & Fairest Award of 2022

i still cannot work out how they got him off…

Don't worry, you're not thick.  It took the best legal minds money could buy several hours to come up with a rationale for the decision.

So Carlton now have the Brownlow, Coleman, all Australians but still missed the finals.

Looks seriously like those who 'manage' the overall system of the AFL need to look over their shoulders at every moment; these kinds of discrepancies seem to exist in every moment of modern football where merit, advantage and kind heartedness are theirs to selectively sprinkle. Carna far king Dees!

They can’t defend to save themselves.

Congratulations to Cripps.  He's a worthy medallist, just as Miller, Oliver, Neale et al would've been.  He's been an excellent player for a long time.  I watched Gawn get ripped off in 2018, when he was clearly the best player in the comp (AFLCA winner) and he didn't even poll the most votes in his team - Brayshaw 3rd and Gawn 4th. We are very fortunate to have so many outstanding players at the same time who have combined to give us one flag and hopefully one or two more still to come.  It's a team game and there's one medal every Brownlow winner would trade it for, including Cripps.  Oliver, Petracca and Gawn and 20 of their mates already have one of those.

Perhaps Clarry would have won the Brownlow had it not been for broken thumb courtesy of Selwood. I think he missed a match and was quiet in the next he played

If you want to win a Brownlow don't be a defender.

All Australian Team Defenders votes in 2022

Tom Stewart 6

Steven May 0

Brayden Maynard 0

Jack Sinclair 9

Sam Taylor 1

Adam Saad  3

Key position players FB( May) and CHB ( Taylor) just 1 vote in total. Unbelievable!

Is anyone able to access coaches votes for all teams across the season and just record 1,2,3. Not only would the results be good to see but compare those against the umpires votes.

There are a number of specialist professions who know how to get people off SWYL.

Yes. But this one is blatant

Feet off the ground and Bang!!

Should have been thrown out in 3 minutes

I don't agree with the 3-2-1 system. You can have 3 players having played well, with not much difference in their performances. The umpires' darlings (e.g. Neale) get 3 votes ... and Oliver or Miller get 1. So, Neale gets 3 times the votes. It's too heavily weighted towards the darlings.

I suggest the votes be 5-4-3, so that the votes are weighted more evenly.

I doubt that anyone will agree with me ... that's ok, I'm used to that.

Oliver should win a Brownlow at some stage in his career (I hope, it woukd be deserved). It is tough as Petracca (internally verbalising the correct pronunciation 😁) and even Gawn perenially compete in the votes so it is difficult to get the critical mass of votes.

It is easier for a Neale from Brisbane or a Touk Miller from Gold Coast to stand out in their respective teams as they don't have the same intense internal club competion for Brownlow votes that the Dees (or the Blues as well with Sam Walsh) face.

Cripps is indeed a deserving winner. Sure he came before the MRO and the tribunal for the Ah Chee concussion incident but CFC went the appeal route which was a legitimate and available avenue to take and were successful. An appeal process mechanism exists for good reason.

Some were surprised that Cripps picked up 3 in the Adelaide away loss for Carlton but in the second half of the season when Carlton had a seversl poor outings as a team Cripps was one of the few that actually stood up and lead from the front and played exceptionally well. A true leader on the ground.

Cripps has two years on Oliver and one area that Cripps has really improved upon is his goal scoring. Cripps kicked 20 goals this season. When Oliver improves on his goal kicking he will get his Brownlow.

Clarry is a super player and would be a worthy winner

But i prefer having a team including Trac and Gawn taking votes off Clarry than Brisbane, Carlton or Golds Coast where the stand out player has no competition meaning the team is weaker. I'm sure Clarry feels the same and reckon he's much more disappointed by the limp straight sets exit than missing out on a Brownlow

That he won it is surprising enough, that some people knew about it is in a realm all by itself.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
