Some in the media won't be happy until they can make public whatever upset Petty without having any concern that that may be more upsetting to Petty than what happened on Friday night.

That was so, so bizarre.

I had a mate who went. A super passionate dees fan who makes Andylook optimistic.

I was speaking to him as he arrived and was saying what a a hole Zorko was, that he would look to stir up stuff and was a woeful captain.

He has form. Every single match.

I watched the replay last night's  I started watching from the first bounce live, so missed this- but on the replay as the lions run out of the stand I'm sure they had a pair of boxing gloves hanging above them sd they ran onto the fortunate. Several players hit them on the easy through.

I'm assuming they had some theme, maybe something like Rocky or whatever.

Pathetic.

And completely ineffective

Those gloves have been there all season Bin.

But no doubt they went the knuckle at any opportunity and they forgot about winning the footy. Totally backfired on them.

Absolutely - on the Herald Sun app, there is no report on the game, just two stories from last night: the Petty incident and BBB getting his face cut up. Real low quality stuff.

Jesus christ what the hell was said? The poor bloke was in tears and supposedly Alan Richardson gave one of their staff a serve a 3 quarter time according to Matthew Richardson.

Must have been nasty.

He's as tough as they come. To make him cry ...a line was clearly crossed.

I heard a rumours it was something about a family member.

If so he's very loyal and protective.

Social media has. Whether it’s correct or not is another thing.

Brown comes from the era of “if you’re someone who cries…a cry-baby, you shouldn’t be playing football”. It wasn’t that long ago, so things are changing rapidly. Listening to the game commentary - BT, Brayshaw, and then Riewoldt, Lyon and Brown in the after-match analysis, it really iterates how rank and stupid Brown’s macho-garbage attitude is. BT no stranger to this of course. As usual, Kayo-FOXTEL-7 are waaay behind the curve. The more we/viewers/other media call it out, the better.
Nick Riewoldt, one the bravest yet least aggro players ever, nailed the Lions rubbish tough-rough idiocy perfectly, making the point that it doesn’t work, and always backfires. He was really the lone voice, and you can feel his discomfort with the tough boys club mentality that Brown represents.

As to Zorko, it’s inexplicable to me that this guy is the Lions captain. His angry schoolyard ‘make it hurt’ physicality (typified by the headlock on Lingers) is simply anathema to leadership. That headlock should also have been punished by the umps.

I also want to praise Christian Petracca. EVERY single tussle and bit of aggro, he’s in there pulling guys away and talking them down (mostly Jack Viney!). His maturity and sense of responsibility for sportsmanship and fair play is unique. This club is extremely lucky to have him. Love the boy.

Same with Max.

He could take down 3 or 4 players at once by himself but never does.

Plays footy not the man.

Poor lions they tried to rough as up and got eaten alive.

To rattle a bloke in the middle of game would have had to have said something quite sub human.

Well it was zorko

Chris Fagan has been good for Brisbane but it's an indictment on his leadership that he's had Beams then Zorko as captains.

Teams that deep down don't feel they can win tend to try to change the dynamic of the game by getting physical ... desperation ... they are our bunnies

The mainstream media wouldn't be game to report what is on social media, it is so bad.

Even without seeing the social media we know by our club reaction that it was really bad.  We do things quietly be it complain about umpiring, accepting/fighting player suspensionsetc.

Not this time.  Richardson and Goodwin were very upfront, direct and unequivocal about the incident.  And made a point of saying Brisbane apologised.

Huge kudos to them for publicly and strongly standing up for Petty and drawing a line under abuse.

Riewoldt on Fox diagnosed it well; they were so riled up about ‘contested footy’ and how we have dominated them that they played distracted with ‘faux toughness.’

It made me really depressed for Fagan’s chances of sticking around post Tigers loss. I think it’s over.

If Zorko actually said what he's supposed to have said he deserves a long ban. Absolutely disgusting remark. What a low life

To a point, 1 finals win from 5 games over last 3 years. Not making top 4 this year and likely to be overtaken by Blues and Pies next year.

enjoyed hearing Daisy/Goody praise his resilience for being able to reset and comeback on.  Lots of warriors bagging Petty on social media for being soft, bunch of absolute pelicans

I think James Brayshaw is very very biased against the Dees. Clearly barracked for Pies and Blues in recent games.

Johnathan (DS) Brown is a grub himself. Courageous at the footy but happy to swing his arm to the head on occasions.

I was at the game and Zorko was the agitator.  Langdon runs him down, holding the ball and he proceeds to get Langdon in the head lock (no 50!!). Zorko is their skipper and wanted to rough the Dees up.  It backfired big time !! He was the super-grub last night.

It actually shows that Brayshaw knows very little about footy and should stick to cricket, if he calls the serial sniper the victim.

You can also hear distinct barracking in his commentary.

Surely there is better out there. Does Huddo have a brother /sister?

For all the criticism about our ‘apparent’ deteriorating culture and selfishness, last night all I saw was a single united club playing and supporting each other.

Jonathan Brown’s comment is extremely disappointing. As a senior commentator, influential figure in the sport, a father and a 40 year old man, he should have been much more considered in his commentary - particularly given it was known from the outset to be something inflammatory about a family member and Petty is a young 22 year old. I think he behaved completely appropriately in the circumstances.

In addition to their focus of mental health, inclusiveness, women and on field behaviour, Brown and Fox Sports should immediately apologise to Petty, and the AFL investigate the incident.

This one million percent.

I'm so proud of the staff and the players.

That's real toughness.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
