I see that Dean Kent is an inclusion for St Kilda in what will be his 100th game.

Genuinely forgot that he was still on a senior list.  I wonder if the 100th is a farewell gesture.

Yeah he's out of contract which surely won't get renewed. Hope he gets a farewell game.

Would have to be you'd reckon.

Interesting, may well be? Out of contract I believe.

Will be watching Harmes energy levels and ability to run out a full game closely. Surprised he played an entire VFL game 5 days earlier.

Agree Jimmy, it's a concern but sports science and what not these days, they must have a gauge on it to some extent

Tough on JJ but has been obviously hampered by his knee recently. Hopefully can recover full fitness for finals. Sparrow's spot is vulnerable so every chance he can get back into the side

After 12 clearances and 20 contested touches Gus would be stiff to move to the wing. But he is a club man and will do his job

No surprise in the selections at all. Jordan gets the ball a lot but is too predictable in movement and speed. Opposition can read him properly. Harmes has been bought in to be a parasite up Neals [censored].

I'm not unhappy with the change but you have to feel for JJ. Spent most of last year as the sub, including the GF, manages to play in the 22 most games this year and now, on the eve of the finals, it looks like he might be warming the bench again

Just like in the GF...really horrific

Looks a little like Roman concrete - tough enough, readying and settling for the weeks ahead. Get ya game plans ready boys, we are depending on you in so many ways.

Jordon isn’t unlucky imo, as he has been below his best for a while.

Charlie Spargo on the other hand can consider himself very very lucky.

Not stiff. He’s been fading out of games for a month.

Yeah “stiff” was the wrong choice of word. “Unlucky” more apt. I do think he’s playing pretty sore at the moment, and the timing is tough.

It's a case of horses for courses. If Harmes can mininise Neale's influence the change will be justified, however unlucky Jordon is entitled to feel. Bit worried about Spargo, though. His impact in recent games has been minimal.

After such a long run in the team, I still doubt whether Spargo has had his role carefully defined; he just does not get the opportunities to excel with his skillset terribly often. He is one of our best feeders; he does not lack courage, he will tackle when necessary - but he runs around in circles looking for a receive himself, often landing with a much larger opponent at which point his role is abruptly impossible.

Back to Sparrow, Harmes, Viney all being in the same midfield group. The stuff of horrors.

Premiership winning midfield 😂

Sparrow very lucky thought he was worse recently than JJ but it's a good problem to have. Harmes had to come in for Neale.

Hopefully he's picked on form, we need them to put up a good performance against the Swans

Which is why Aints arent any good ! GIFTING games, why not blood youngster! Not Ruthless enough and havent been since Ross Lyon almost got them over the line

What does Dean Kent got do with Teams R23 team v Brisbane ?  Get on the St.Kilda website you people .

News report we are adding grunt to our team by including Harmes. Have I missed something we didn't need grunt because Harmes played for Casey !!!! This team is more vanilla than vanilla (poor comparison I suppose ) , we don't have any aces up or sleeve i.e Joel Smith  or JVR . We will get done . Maybe we should offer Hird a an assistant coach position, actually Hird has more of a footy brain than Goody.

Sparrow and Spargo are incredibly lucky. They've been far worse and non existent then Jordon.

Yeah there's a thread for that!

With the injury to Tmac this side is about as good as it gets. We should be able to get a win in QLD.

….and maybe, just maybe TMac may just be an outside chance in a few weeks.  Not sure if this is wishful thinking on my part, but I live in hope.  GO DEES!

Great continuity, minimal changes again, wow, what pressure for spots. No-one can really under perform the roles at this stage, so expecting a very hardened, and pressured approach to our game.

I thought Harmes played with desperation at VFL level last week. He worked hard, to get the call up

With the dry days up there, I'd expect a little less dew on the ground. Marking and clean ball use will be needed, get it done BBB and Dogga.

Brissy will be ready for us, but I think we are playing on the front foot this season. We really ask the opposition to stick to us, as we don't give much in the first half and quite often they fold. It still remains a problem for us in the third, but with so much on the line I expect we will roll on till the end.

[Good to see Kenty as a possible in, (kick a few for us) St.kilda has a few out this week, including M.Wood who looked strong in their last one. Hoping they can do Sydney and give us a MCG game (so long as we win).]

I can see the players enjoying the VFL game in Moreton oval if we do Brissy. Plenty of sunshine, then off to watch the Sydney game on Sunday.  Good preparation but probably not. Maybe only Goody and few select leaders to the Sydney game.

Smith could be a perfect fit for sub.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
