ANB, Sparrow, Brown, Spargo all liabilities. A mirror image to last week except we won.

No chance tho, presumably

Joel Smith or JVR in the forward line to create some dynamic contests.

Bowey in for Salem who has been awful all year.

Harmes in to tag Neale and remain a tagger for rest of his career because that’s where he plays his best football.

ANB or Spargo out because they simply do not provide the crumbing up forward we need.

Ben Brown out even though Weideman hasn’t been good we seem to play better with him in the team. I prefer Weideman to Jackson (contract distracted) as the second ruck at the moment.

Get Jordon the handbrake off the wing.

Do we have a better option than Sparrow?

Edited by Clint Bizkit

We need another tall forward. I don’t care about Weids ongoing form, I think we need him.

Weed or JVR would be more competitive than BBB

OUT - Jordon

IN - Harmes

Really need a second tall forward IMO, but can't see Goody doing it.

Would rather BBB with a missing leg over Weid

van Rooyen on the other hand there's an argument for, which is concerning

Out Melksham - no intensity

Zero tackles. He has to go.

Spargo out. Not sure what's happened to him. Gone from a solid contributor to invisible.

In. Chandler.

Casper to the Invisible man is not an upgrade

Melksham should get dropped for zero tackles. ANB and Spargo were so dynamic with their pressure. I don't know what we'd do without them.

I'm being facetious.

Will never happen but we’d be no worse with Harmes for Petracca. His defensive work is a joke and he’s not giving much offensively.

JJ and Sparrow just going about their roles. So they’re the most vulnerable. Gus more wing and Harmes to Neale makes sense.

Not really his fault but Spargo struggling. Bedford and Chandler managed this week from VFL

The problem with the side is mostly the best players underperforming and not the role players.

Harmes in

Sparrow to medi-sub.

Harmes might kick a one or two.

Only change - a forward option to help out. Apart from the one-arm efforts and concrete hands, BBB must have contested 30 aerial  contests, and was two-to-one or three-to-one every time. He needs a hand. Joel Smith is a point of difference option who I would consider heavily.

Harmes for Spargo and please give JVR a go.

Spargo is about the only one able to deliver inside 50 but he's been very poor in the contest and barely touching it. I'd drop him for a second key forward, Weid/Jvr/Smith I don't really care.  I like Brayshaw in the middle but reckon he can be covered there, move him to the wing, drop Jordon and bring in Harmes. Bowey would be a useful in but not sure how we squeeze him in.

I'd bring in Bowey for Spargo. At least he knows how to find the ball and is an equally good user.

We still need more potency in attack, but stubborn Goody won't make any changes.

Outs: Sparrow, Spargo, jordan

in: Harmes, bedford, bowey

Edit: subbing myself off. Hunt was brilliant on reflection.

What I’d like is

Harmes for Neal Bullen

Bowey for Spargo

Smith or Van Rooyen for B. Brown

Hunt to the wing, Jordon to midfield rotations.

What will happen,   No Change

Against a side with 3 talls he stays in but against smaller line ups we really should ask what the point of Lever is chasing around half back flankers, Hibberd, Hunt and Rivers all did a better job intercepting and actually provide rebound.

ANB, Sparrow, Brown, Spargo all liabilities.

ins. Harmes and Chandler

outs. Any TWO of ANB or Sparrow or Spargo

Fritsch has to do better.

it’s BEN Brown or JVR … so Brown stays in only as JVR is still so young.

Hunt was great, ANB tried hard. They keep their spots

Outs.

- kicking bombs to the forwards

- slow and wide ball movement

- endless useless handballs that are easily intercepted

Ins

- use the corridor more

- BBB taking a contested mark.  (Not always going one handed)

- Quick play on style footy

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
