Daniel Bradshaw is 43yo now.  I know we need a key forward but leave that age recruiting to Geelong.

Don't be silly, old.

He was clearly referring to Darren Bradshaw, who is Daniel's younger brother. He's only 41 now.

Both of you - wrong. He is obviously talking about former Pittsburgh Quarterback Terry Bradshaw. But he is turning 74 this year and I just don’t think we want to commit to a short term option at Quarterback especially considering he really plays a different system and also our sport doesn’t have that role within the rules…

A  question:

1. Do we really think Luke would go from a premiership team with a realistic chance to win 2 or 3 more over the next 5 years, to a side which probably won’t be in the window for the next 5-7 years. Sure he would be paid maybe 25% more at the Eagles in his home state, but it is a lot to give up, and it is not as though he would be poorly paid at the Dees. I rather suspect that after we win our second flag in two years, and with every prospect of a couple more after that, that he just might stay with us to get the glory that that represents.

Absolutely

The Age: "Industry sources said the Magpies are not sitting on their hands and are making preparations to be in a position to either put an offer to De Goey or match any offer he accepts from another club to force a trade with the Saints, potentially offering a long-term deal to the match-winning midfielder".

Smart play by Collingwood.  If they let him go as an Unrestricted FA they get nothing or very little for him as any AFL compensation pick is offset against the incoming Mc Stay FA comp pick Brisbane get.

I would also like to see them come a cropper but Coll hold all the cards.

Once DeGoey accepts another club's offer there is little wriggle room for that club.  They either pay up in a forced trade ala Geelong and Cameron or they walk away from DeGoey.  The latter has never happened for an FA or an out of contract player.

They are shaping up to significantly improve their list.

I’d guess premiership flags are less important to modern footballers than people think

Unfortunately Luke is under his mothers full control. Mentally he is still a kid. Luke loves the club and his mates, but his mother who is a massive Freo supporter is demanding his return home.  Our only hopes is the penny drops with Luke over the finals, or that Freo cant come up with a trade, West Coast becomes an option and Luke's mum tells Luke to wait another 2 years as the though of him playing for West Coast is intolerable.

Option C. Goodwin, Pert & Gawn lead an expedition to penetrate the Jackson Compound deep in Freo territory by stealth and convert Grandma Dogga into a Demon. Convincing her in the process, to use the threat of changing her will, to garner the Mother's support in allowing Jackson to stay at the Dees for another 2, possibly 10 years.

If she's so controlling why did she let him leave in the first place?

Does a club have to prove they can actually accommodate a co tract within their cap when matching a FA offer? Or can the Pies say "we'll match" to force a trade without actually having the space in the cap?

i expect they could because at the trade stage the total salary amount is not yet fixed. it would only be really fixed post draft.

however it would be a real risky ploy to bid a price you couldn't fit into your expected cap and i don't think clubs would risk it as just a tactic unless they could bear the potential outcome if the other side just bailed out

Just saw that Port may enter the race for Brodie Grundy. If that is the case and Jacko leaves, would we potentially look at Sam Hayes from Port to play with Max as a younger ruck option? He dominates at SANFL level and is only 23.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
