NON-MFC: Round 16, 2022

Good result Saints, well in.

Bad kicking is bad football. Suffer Carlton!

Membreys goal reminded me of TMac's sealer v West Coast in 2017

3.5 minutes to go, Saints are up, ball is in their court. Still unsure who wins.

But the joy of watching the Blues choke on the Friday night big stage means my weekend is off to a great start.

Gotta feel for the umpires here. They’ve done everything they could do, but it just wasn’t quite enough.

Wouldn’t you just love to be walking back to Southern Cross station amongst those Carlton tossers tonight!

Absolutely disgraceful umpiring. No2...does not have any idea about  distance.Totally incompetent...five mtr distances many times, and paid marks

Never had any confidence when he umpires one of our games.  Seems more interested in show ponying than giving an even go.  Someone somewhere must have data as to the free kick balance of each umpire vs each team .... I strongly suspect we would be on the far left of his ledger.

Thoroughly enjoyable watching Carlton cough up that game

Carlton were quite unimpressive tonight.

Can't help but feel more confident watching them tonight

Now a definite chance to build a two game gap (plus %) to 3rd place.

And then next week a classic 8 point game hopefully with our two preferred rucks back and rested.

Will be interesting to see how we set up v Adelaide but hopefully we can scrounge a win with our depleted ruck stocks.  Big opportunity for Sam.

What a disgraceful performance it was.  Even in the dying seconds they managed to find a 50!

The saints are soo inconsistent - their best is good. Their not so best is absolutely terrible. You never which one your going to get with them

I usually switch off the game at the end but tonight I have left it on without the sound.

Does anyone ever leave the sound on when that demented disorientated walrus wanders around the rooms with a microphone - looks like a long lost uncle who nobody cares about but "had to get an invitation" at a wedding.  Garbage.

I know we are all meant to take it easy on the umpires, so to keep it fair, I will just say they were pathetic. They somehow contrived to give Carlton frees that were not there and at the same time, deny the Saints frees that were there.

WTF goal review ???    Rushed behind and no suggestion that CFC kicked it and blind Freddie could see the it was ay over the line.  Madness.

Wasn't it pointless whether it was over the line given the Saints player touched the goalpost with his other hand...

Saints with a few good ins replacing poor players. Coming off a bed few weeks the Saints will win tonight

Blues can’t keep coping with 7-8 players out and Saints look good every few weeks

You were dead right

well played

Saints only 9 frees, very low number.

They had 6 free kicks at about the 8 minute mark of the fourth quarter.  That's barely 1.5 frees a quarter to that point.  Would have to be some sort of all time low number?

The amount of 10 - 12 meter kicks that were allowed as marks was astoundingly poor judgement from too many of the officials tonight.  If they got a third wrong i would understand.  Had to be at least half this evening.

At one stage, with no eyes on the ball until after initial contact, Cripps ran straight at Ryder in the ruck on the edge of the Saintsl's goal square.  A clear block a la Tommy Hawkins at his worst in the ruck but the ump just called play on.

And what was that goal line review.  Two umps watching, one on either side, and neither could see that the ball clearly went over or the post was touched with the other hand?

And the McKay free late in the last as Mr Leg has mentioned!??  As Brian would say in his grating whine...Wowee!

There were some patches where i thought it was great to see the whistle put away but unfortunately any good work was short lived by being over officious or just poor calls, mostly against the Aints.

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.

Never in doubt!!! In Steven King’s first game at the helm of the Melbourne Football Club, the Dees outlasted Saints in a wild, momentum-swinging thriller at the MCG, running out 13-point winners.
