Hooley Dooley jimmy crickets what a sublime team effort, back to our suffocating best and we expand out from that. Great win boys.

This team is hard to read correctly at the moment

Ya think? I read that game like an absolute page turner and was very happy with the plot.

We won this without the best ruckman this century.

Get Maxy as fresh as can be for finals.

The cheer squad was ordinary, but otherwise the game was great.

@WalkingCivilWar 🫣👋🤣

Ordinary??!! You’re being too kind. They were sh*it-house!!!

“We should’ve lost the game by a lot more than we did” - Chris Fagan.

Curious, merely quoting Fages? Or hammering home a view that you're still perpetually disappointed by the team?

For Thursday night game against an interstate team, that crowd was a brilliant result. We pulled in more than Richmond vs Port on Thurs night, despite nearly 50,000 less members across teams playing.

Brilliant effort Dees fans. Ignore the noise about our crowds for dopey pelicans like Caro. We’re third highest average home attendance in the league. Were more loyal than anyone. Hats off!

Aaaand officially an attendance record between these clubs in home and away season. Brilliant effort to achieve that on a Thursday night!

Our supporters should be highlighted and praised in the media. Our attendance has been awesome this year.

The bloke with the mike was in the way, and yet you still couldn’t hear the questions asked. You’d think they would have sorted it out for Fagan, but no.

I find this talk of "loading" relevant to my interests.

Please tell me moar

Direct quote I nearly fell off my chair

When we play our game plan and everyone plays their role , it’s Dees footy and it’s the best footy going around.

When the stakes are for real the boys stand up and show who is number one.

That is a fantastic crowd for a Thursday night game.

I actually think Jackson as a ruck doubles down on our pressure game.

On the train now next to Titus O’Reilly who seems rather chuffed.

Had real concerns in the first quarter but it finally clicked. The zone reformed, the tackling pressure returned, our clean up at ground level began to take shape and the link up handballs that have been missing for the past three weeks happened.

Jack Viney, take a bow…you willed us back into that game yourself and the team followed.

I had major concerns about the lack of contested marks we’d be able to take but it didn’t matter, it took care of itself. The flow returned.

My favourite part of the night was not having to even notice May or Petty after quarter time because they just did their job, allowing the true Jake Lever to take flight.

The feeling is good. Let’s hope this is the return of what we want and expect from this team.

Go Dees and back in your box Brisbane.

Hopefully Fages' discusses loading in his presser.

Great win.

But they were clearly super fatigued.

I had my binos on their bench for a bit in the third, and then at their 3/4 time huddle.

They were completely exhausted.

I do like this thing that happens whenever Bailey Fritsch kicks a goal midway through the third quarter.

Note of credit to Sam Weideman; he actually took a lot of ruck contests tonight and made a pretty good fist of it, as well as competing pretty well in general. He basically provided the extra option for Jackson in the way that Jackson provides it for Gawn. It got the most out of Jackson and seemed to also get a good level of engagement from Weideman as well.

It may even be a consideration for when Gawn is available again; the seeming madness of having two rucks and a ruck-forward, made possible by the fact that both rucks have clearly completely forgotten they are rucks and just run around doing all kinds of non-ruck things all day!

Jack Viney fully fit is a scary sight

The media talks about our pillar mids of Clarry and Trac, but a 100% fit Viney is arguably on the same level

He has been massive for the past month, long may it continue

Chris Fagan is all class - such a great bloke.

FAGAN WAS RIGHT … “LIONS WERE LUCKY THAT THE DEES DIDNT KICK STRAIGHT” … IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ANNILIATION

Impressive by Fagan. Clearly disappointed in his team tonight. Real professional.

Was critical of him last week but boy oh boy was he huge today, Rick Lever you legend!!

Just the game he needed to get into some form.

The growing exasperation of the Brisbane fans behind me every time he took an intercept mark was marvellous. 😂

I legitimately thought the cheer squad did a fantastic job all game, and really lifted in the second half and brought it home magnificently. Kudos to all. Made me proud.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
