i thought the match up was tough already (for similar reasons to why we lost last year), and wish I shared your confidence. Maybe MFCSS is slowly creeping in (cue Powderfinger!), but I am already getting mentally ready for a 2 week self-imposed ban from listening to SEN and RSN and watching any footy shows.

I think the fans probably need a win more than the club does. Would make for a much more comfortable bye week if we were back on the winner's list

There you go, Hibbo, target No.1

Perfect time to smash in hard and show the footy world what we can do at our best again - I think many have already forgotten how devastating our best football is

Agreed.

People need to get their heads around the fact that it's not 2021 anymore.

Apparently our defensive pressure which was the hall mark of last year has gone from elite to mid table or worse.

I saw somewhere we are 17th for pressure.

Yikes.

Do they have a young player we can attack, as they did to Jack Watts all those years ago?

Maybe a Daicos, or Henry?

Its about time we flogged someone.

The goings on this week have left me cranky.

Once more, unto the breach dear friends.....

One of the greatest movie versions ever made of any Shakespeare play is Laurence Olivier's "Henry V". As the battle of Agincourt begins, there are three riders, which becomes five riders which becomes nine riders and eventually hundreds. All shot in one scene. We need our team to play like that on Monday. We need to overwhelm the opposition in numbers.

The intensity we need to bring should be comparable to what we delivered in the PF & GF games. Nothing less. We have a week to recover so nothing short of sustained pressure over 4Q is a pass, especially given the slander and negative press the club has been exposed to.

If we can bring that, then i would agree with the OP.

However, do not underestimate the intensity the Pies will bring. They will be playing high on confidence, they will be expecting a response so they will be ready. Challenge is to blow them out of the water early and put them on the back foot and questioning themselves. First quarter will decide the game.

This may be by design. We do have 10 wins banked without burning energy applying manic pressure.

If we lose I get 10 days to avoid pie fans. I think the pies play G better than us.

They got into $2.50 they are drifting now. Centrelink money has dried up.

What a week! The players appear to be galvanising, so should we as supporters, I’m going to back them by turning up this Monday.

Let’s not forget who we are up against, it is our (or at the very least my) arch enemies.

Don’t care if we have injuries, suspensions or are loading- I want Collingwood but in particular their feral supporters and that little frosby flopping, free kick seeking piece of peroxided excrement, Ginnivan to suffer a humiliating defeat (whether it be by one point or 10 goals I don’t care), just so long as it cuts to the bone.

You can’t experience this type of pleasure by watching it on TV or Kayo, you got to be there!

Top post and thread in general.

If anyone wants anymore GEEing up for the game, watch the clip on the club's website of Daniel Turner being announced as playing on Monday, done at training this morning.

Priceless, including the effort by Jake Lever in the announcement, and especailly look around at the smiling faces of team mates.

Fascinating

That's always the problem playing Collingwood..would you prefer to win by 1 or 100. 1 is almost better.

My 7 and 9 year old boys had a punch on yesterday. 7 yo won. Gave them both a week. Mother wants to review it.

They are in their room playing nicely now. Bit like footy players.

Players should treat this game with Finals Intensity. They know the levels now. It’s not a dream. They powered away with the Flag last year.
Losing S May is a major blow as is TMac. But others step in and we still have a dam good side

But Monday is Finals pressure and then a week off

I hope we do. Taking my son to his first ever Melbourne game, and my first game in 3 years as we live so far away. Might have to pack some earplugs as he has never been exposed to magpie filth before.

So, what's the true story? Did the 9 year old complain that the 7 year old let the side down playing marbles with the neighbour's kids or did he say he was sick of telling a third child how to position his tombola?

Read the title of this thread and thought, will we though, then watched the Daniel Turner video and thought, yes I think we will.

Yikes.

Interestingly we lead the league in tackles inside 50, have conceded the fewest amount of points (even with a full game more on a quarter of the league who had the bye last round) and along with Collingwood are one of the best intercept teams in the league.

We are one of the worst tackling and worst pressure act teams (pressure act being chasing a team from behind). It could well be the way we play in that we rarely need to chase. Teams out tackle us given we are near the top in contested possessions and disposals. We win and have more of the ball overall. We also go forward more than any other team.

It could explain why our games haven't looked "good" all year. They have almost always seemed like grinds and they really have been.

Suggesting Collingwood "should" win though is a stretch. Why?

Ok so we have landed on Ginnivan, Henry, and a Daicos preferably 2.

Jack V. gets first crack, and gets a license to cop a 50 metre penalty and goal, or up to 2 weeks suspension if he can’t be subtle enough.

Then Hibbo, Harmes, Pickett to finish off whoever is left.

Ok Mick Warner

Seeing as the AFL  has been kowtowed into stumbling into something they apparently can selectively choose to enter into I hope the Club will demand an opinion prior to Monday's Game as there is a definite question of double standards here..

If jack  v gets first crack as you say the others won't be required.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
