Im not saying he gets dropped but ben Brown would have to be under some pressure. We played the 2 bottom sides.. his output:

WCE - 6 Disposal - 2 goals

NORTH - 8 Disposals no goals

FREO - 2 Disposals no goals

Its really not a great stretch for him and it probably reflects teh team, but he was awful on Saturday v freo, uncompetitive, pushed aside, no strong leading pattern.  Three weeks, 2 goals. Not good enough really.

Its not going to get easier for him with a strong Defensive outfit in Sydney, 2 McCartins are in good form and Rampe always plays well v Dees.

Salem playing half back I reckon doesn’t need a run at Casey. If he was a mid then he would imo. But the club knows best of course

We need some composure and class off HB

Salem literally said 2 weeks to a reporter last week and was doing basic rehab drills - agility style running drills.

I’m not convinced he needs a VFL game but he needs to complete a block of full training sessions and he hasn’t yet.

Hopefully we get Langdon and Tom back, but after that it’s Gawn, Petracca, Oliver and Viney playing 4 quarters that will be the biggest ‘in’s’.

The way he got bodied out of contests was concerning. I get he is basically a lead up forward but he was restrained by Freo's defence continually. Much of it illegal, yet when Hunt got in a wrestle with Lobb - free kick Lobb.

BB seems woefully out of form

Thought he was a little unlucky the way some of these contests were adjudicated against Freo. At least he didn't smack a bloke like he did in the VFL.

Yep agree, Horribly out of form. Needs to have a strong second Fwd to help him.

All our Fwds led to the same spot all night, 3 big men going against each other, it really was an awful display of forward line set up.

Is it time to sack our forward line coach? 🙂

Not great but the ball is being dumped on his head. Watch games earlier in the year or last year and the long kicks went more to space than where he is standing.

These are all big inclusions. I think Salem will come back via VFL given lack of match fitness.

Rewatching the game, I think it took Longmuir a half to work out that Trac was not fit and then he tagged Oliver knowing that we had no other clearance specialist. This is how the game turned and why Trac was switched to the forward line. It’s a one off but we do need another player that can come in to that role as Dunstan and Sparrow are just not elite in that area.

I think the reason we lost was this simple. Even if May stayed in I’m not sure we could have held the lead but we wouldn’t have lost by 38 at least.

So with a fitter Trac and the inclusions, I’m hoping for a good, solid response this week to put a line through some of the ? starting to develop.

In:

Langdon (hugely important! Spargo and Bedford did their best but he’s irreplaceable), Salem, Harmes, TMac, Tomlinson.

Out:

May (inj), Melksham, Weideman, Dunstan, Bedford (sub)

The question mark is Petty’s ankle/knee. We really can’t afford him to go down. If he does Disco Turner may get his shot?

Happens every time Weid and BB play together. Without fail.

This isn't being flippant, but didn't they play well together for Casey? If so, did they understand each other's game better or was it just weaker opposition?

Sorry to say but I think you are right - especially given the history of the tribunal and "star" vs "unknown" players.

Not flippant at all

i saw them play against Richmond live and several other games on the TV.

They did work well together rolling  around the forward line with BB often on the wing feeding it in to Weid.

They shared the shots on goal, both bought others into the game and can't remember them getting in each other's way.

it led to my comments that Weid really does seem lost and is too static in the forward line. Doesn't attack the ball in case he gets in the way of BB TMac or Fritta.

How they adjudicate holding of each other's arms. That should have been play on.

I hate to say "I told you so" but I told you so, and predicted he'd kick 7 this week. Franklin v Tomlinson? I'm already having nightmares about that match up.

Hunt was in front of him…..ridiculous free-kick. ‘Play on’ every day. If the marking duels were adjudicated around the ground like they are in forward 50, free-kicks would be quadrupled.

He should get dropped that’s a woeful output, I’ve lost patience with Brown & the Weid, they show no physicality, hardly get to the contest & don’t mark the ball or get it at ground level

Tmac & Mitch Brown for me

Think you give him another go.. but he is on notice for sure. I think he plays better with Tom Mc in the team for some reason. Think Tom moves around a bit more and moves up teh ground, so BB has more room and is more 1 on 1 than big pack marking set up.

GAMEDAY: Match SIM vs North Melbourne

The play start time was brought forward from the initial 11am bounce, due to the high temperatures forecast.  The match sim will consist of four 25-minute qu

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
