Love Spargo. Excellent ball in hand and tackles like a tiger. Delighted he has signed on

He might be a ducker, but hes OUR ducker.... Get around him.

He was a whipping boy 2019-20 and was often criticised for not having any ‘weapons’.  He’s proof that a good footy-brain trumps most other traits.

A very important player.

Great news. And means we are fairly confident of other things are settling into place.

It’s great when interstaters re sign. Spargs is a ripper.

Huh? what other things are these?

Thanks Spargs a key component  of our great team, well done young man an important signing by the Dees.!!

Well done Charlie and well deserved. An integral part of our team and the best inside 50 kick in the side in my view. Will be great to see his next levels of development as he further builds his strength and stamina.

Agree. Players that are in the 15-23 bracket who are out of contract, may be happy with the security of signing for additional years but less money in order to keep the list together.

Technically you were right on the interstate call Flemo, with Spargs being from Aulbry and being a TAC Murray Bushranger, but his Wiki page also metions something about him being an with NSW/ACT in the U16 & 18 championships and a GWS Academy player, so we are lucky he slipped through that net.

Your call somewhat surprised me at first as I only remembered the connection with his dad to North and that he was a Melbourne Grammar boy.

Great news - very much under appreciated and unrecognised in the footy world at large, and by some within this group ... but not amongst those who matter in our club.

Pressure, tackler, and amazing vision and disposal.

Congratulations Charlie.

Hes exactly what gws needs funnily enough

I really like Charlie. He’s the epitome of a footballer understanding, and then playing to their capabilities - and ultimately that becoming their strength.

Every time he gets the ball our forwards run at him. He’s not going to bomb it, he’s going to pass it 15-35 metres with precision. I really appreciate him, and the effort and consistency he brings.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
