Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Is Yze under appreciated?

I want to be really clear in stating from the outset, that there is no dis-respect or dis-credit intended towards Goody from this post/thread.

Simon is a premiership coach, and a likely multi-premiership coach - his achievements speak for themselves.

I more raise the topic, out of fear that we may loose Yze end of year, partly because we haven’t appreciated what he has done for us since coming back to the club.

Shoot it down all you like, I am of the view that it would be a dangerous position for us as a club to watch him walk out, rather than be part of a potential 3-peat next year. Is there not a way we can make him part of the furniture / succession planning?

what makes you think he is under-appreciated?  he is massively rated within the club and by supporters

you don't start a succession plan after you win your first flag in 57 years

in the words of Forrest Gump - I am not a smart man but I do know that (not sure I got the quote right)

We will see that he is under-appreciated when he walks, and we suddenly have to replace his skillset

Just so we are clear. In your opinion, if he 'walks' ie: secures a head coach position at another club. It is because he is under-appreciated. The only way to retain him and thus show appreciation is by sacking Goodwin, to ensure there is a role for him?

ps... can you bullet point explicitly what he has done for 'us'? Because I thought I had appreciated him, but perhaps there are lots of responsibilities I do not know he does, and I would like to savor and appreciate him some more,.

Looking past your bs, and taking part of your post seriously.

No, not in any way am I suggesting the way to show appreciation is by sacking Goodwin (if you read the original post, I thought that was pretty clear).

re what he has done for the club, I am compiling a consistent message from multiple people within the club, that a large part of our defensive structure, and ability for midfielders to buy into team defence, as well as leveraging their offensive strength is due to Yze's work.

If we don't care/value that, and are happy to watch him walk, then so be it. Question answered.

A touchy group here, who are easily offended obviously.

If we “lose” Yze it will have absolutely nothing to do with being under-appreciated and everything to do with him having learned at the feet of two Premiership coaches, being one of the best assistants going around and deserving the shot at a senior coaching gig.

It is very probable that Goody will get a contract extension and deservedly so after winning a Premiership. Therefore it is more likely that Yze will at some point Interview for a vacant senior coaching role and possibly get the gig.

We all would love for a beloved ex-player to return to the club and coach us however the timing is not right and who are we to begrudge him from seeking to further his career if the opportunity arises.

Yze came back at the start of 2021. The only way he’d be coaching us now or in the short term would be for Goody and the team to have spectacularly failed. Would you have preferred that outcome?

Exactly. Which makes the possibility of him leaving for a senior role more likely. It has zero to do with being under-appreciated as the OP suggested.

I never said you stated that you said Goodwin would have to be sacked....and it is not tenable that Yze will coach Melbourne in the senior role, unless Goodwin is sacked.

It is very likely that Yze will be a senior coach... and not in the timeframe that lends itself to Goodwin exiting. He won't be senior coach at this football club...based on how the side is tracking. No one would begrudge him for applying for and ultimately attaining a senior role, actually all in the community would support it - it is not a reflection of or of not, being appreciated.

Are you suggesting Yze will “walk” because he is disgruntled or “walk” for the opportunity to further his career?

Adem Yze has been absolutely fantastic since coming back to the Melbourne Demons.

He is most certainly appreciated! I hope that we can keep Adem as an assistant coach at the Melbourne Football Club as long as possible.

However, I am pragmatic that he will eventually want a senior coaching role at an AFL club very soon. Let's hope that when he does take on a senior coaching role it is not until after the completion of a Melbourne Demons finals campaign

Good clubs lose assistants. Deal with it.

This all came from a ‘trolling’ post in another thread about Yze being a better coach than Goodwin and we will get a lift out of that and now you have turned that into a thread.

It doesn’t deserve to be - Goodwin is a flag winning coach that has got the players happy and the team humming. You don’t eff around with that.

Spot on.

This is simply a case of bad timing.

I think all can agree that Yze would be the perfect replacement for Goody but due to the current circumstances of which ironically Yze is a big part of creating he will most likely get a gig elsewhere before the opportunity arises at the Dees.

That is our loss but not something that is viable at this time.

He is right to have his opinion and I think many posters have reasonably shown that opinion to be misguided.

and just a word of caution.....

there is no guarantee an excellent tactical assistant coach will necessary make a good head coach

a head coach is a very different job these days in many ways, some quite intangible

i'd like to think ooze would make a good head coach too but there is no guarantee

i can think of other well credentialed and admired assistant coaches who didn't translate to good head coaches, (maybe due to other reasons than just themselves or not).

Give it a rest 1964.

You deservedly got smashed in the previous thread because you came out and said that Yze was already a better senior coach then Simon Goodwin even though you made mention that Goodwin had already a premiership next to his name.

You made this ridiculous claim on the back of no evidence or solid argument that backs this up.

Just stop.

Ask me after the weekend, as the match against the Hawks will definitely confirm my established opinion, whatever that happens to be, which I'm not going to share, and irrespective of the result.

As Goodwin and the board have said consistently for a while now, the club is planning for sustained success going forward.   I believe them!

I’m just just taking a wild guess here,  but I presume this would involve developing strategies to retain  as many key players and coaching staff as is reasonably possible, going forward.

What evidence is out there about how Yze has not been appreciated? Am I missing something here?  I’m not wanting to take sides, I just want to know.  If it is true, that would be both sad and concerning.

When I watched Yze doing a press conference earlier, I actually felt very comfortable and indeed proud about how he and the club were handling the covid challenge.  Is this just me?

I believe that the team spirit, values and respect which is embodied in the club played an enormous part in all players signing back up at the end of last year.  I also hope that it holds true for the coaching and indeed the board going forward.Time of course will tell.

There is potentially some very exciting things that may happen over the next few years. I’m certainly want to be part of that.  I am well and truly over feeling miserable as I did for fifty odd years prior to what is happening right now. I’m enjoying every minute!

Yze is a top assistant. He'll get a head coaching job before too long perhaps as early as this off season. Thats just the way it goes. I'm sure we'll all wish him well when the time comes and thank him for the great job he's done for us

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
