Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I was just going to write this and thought I’d get sniped. You brave ! But it’s true.  Slow and predictable might be the proven way to go but it’s also frustrating and boring.

It’s still more COVID and flu given the older demographic of our supporter base it actually does make sense.

Covid and Flu are a small part of the problem i get that. But we haven’t been exciting to watch this year, overall.
I believe that is a big partof it

We play one Quarter of exciting football, or a 10 minute burst, at the moment. It must be extended. The talent is there.
The application is off at the moment.
Losing is not in my equation

Ideally I'd like to see more as well but I'm not going to fault the team when they're winning and up on top of the ladder. It would be great to see them play like the Harlem Globetrotters but ultimately that is unrealistic and unsustainable, the primary motive is winning.

Let's take Saturday - we were blitzing the Swans in the first quarter, we were up 6 goals to 1 at the start of the 2nd - pretty good footy with a couple of breathtaking efforts from Kossie. The crowd just wasn't making much noise though - yeah there were the cheers and claps after goals but what about in between? I was yelling my lungs out mainly to stave off the cold but also to make up for the lack of noise from many around us.

I’ve heard it all now. I thought excuse-wise the bottom of the barrel, splinters an’ all, had been scraped. But this takes the cake. 🙄

I reckon you have written a version of “winning footy not pretty footy” for the last 15 years on this site. I would search for it if I cared enough or the servers didn’t just groan at the thought.

Ok. I didn’t see Saturdays game. I was on a plane. If the Crowd were not up and about at 6 goals to 1 then that is strange.
But I still believe the season thus far has been a grind. A lot of that is our opponents, but we must counter this.

Yep there's more than a couple on here whose only response to any nuanced discussion was " but we lost". Well now we're winning but that's still not good enough!

Yep. I did say that. But the proof is at the ground. Crowds are not turning up.

and yes i do prefer a grinding win to losing, but would i spend $150 to watch it live, or sit on the couch…

I just want to see more when it comes to attendance. I know not everyone can make it for various reasons but I really think 5k extra per week on average isn't unrealistic. I've sounded like a broken record in the last few days but not one of my MFC friends bothered to show up for this one and opted for the couch and Kayo. I'm certainly getting sick of that especially since I paid to go to Marvel and sit with the 500 other Melb fans while these dopes sat at home as if it was an interstate game.

I'm not super focused on the noise level I feel this would naturally improve with that bit extra in numbers. I yelled my lungs out too but it didn't stave off the cold, to be fair though I already had it 😛

Just want to see more people make the effort.

So your list of excuses for Dees fans to stay away from watching this team…

That is 10 and 2

Thats top of the [censored] ladder

That just won the flag

That has 3 of the best 5 players

That has a % of 140

Your list of excuses is How. The. Team. Is. Playing?

This is the kind of nonsense that you would abhor in the past.

Again, I ask, in another thread, on another topic - why do we need so many excuses? Why can’t we put our hands up and say that we are not coming to games because of ‘PERSONAL reason blah’ AND it isn’t a great reason and I apologise to my fellow Demons and I will try better in the future.

‘We’ve always had the flu about, we have always had to learn ticketing, watching on my fat [censored] at home is not good enough, not coming to games because I expect them to be in a prelim and I will go then, they are all bad reasons - see you there at all home games!’

Now how hard is that?

Hey Mister. I have been a Member for over 30 years.
As a Disabled person i can tell you it aint easy getting to the MCG and getting a Taxi or UBER at Midnight. It costs bucketloads if you include Food and Bevies.
Getting an UBER Home after a night game is a logistical nightmare. The reason I haven’t been into the MCG since 2016

This does not detract in anyway my commitment and passion for the Club.
You live in Canberra so you have no concept of heavy traffic. So you can just back right off on the insults ok….

Spot on rp, THIS is what burns me up no end. I know I won’t be attending any finals matches since I don’t have, nor can afford, that level of membership. And I’m perfectly fine with that. But when I think of those “fans” that don’t attend H&A games for whatever reason but will be at each and every final come hell or high water, it really pisses me off.
Unrelated… nah actually, totally related: does covid, inclement weather, sh*itty ticketing systems, public transport woes, etc. etc. take a holiday during September? They must do, clearly.

I come from the country when possible but it is bloody hard for a 7 hour round trip.

I'm behind the goals 2nd level above the cheer squad and clear out 3 rows in front of me when supporting.

My mates behind me and has always kept up cheering and chant.

Theres a young kid and his old man who do the m e l b o u r n e chant.

we do Our bit but sometimes the cheering just doesn't seem to be amplified

it could be a weather, temperature, atmosphere thing.

i reckon we're louder on a fine Saturday afternoon than any other time. All other supporters the same.

Just need some more people to pony up. The people I'm having a go at are in their 20s and 30s, in good health and living in metro Melbourne, sitting on their ar** at home with Kayo. You get this period in your life once, you get this successful period in your life very few times. Why would you not want to do everything possible to make it to every game of this era?

There is a part of me that hopes the new TV deal stuff up Kayo and means people will either need 100 subscriptions or actually go to games. I don't really mean that but there does seem to be a real 'Kayo clientele' and type.

I apologise. I don’t think that you are the problem, but the excuses that you mention don’t hold water.

I will be down 4 times out of the first 13 rounds because I know that this is a couple of injuries/departures away from ceasing to be, and I thought that the club had a great opportunity to confirm our status as the club just below the big boys with crowds that outshone everyone on big stages like on Saturday night.

Its more than disappointing.

In part it is because the MCG is so big the stadium looks empty with 35,000 people and it looks very empty when the top tiers have no-one in them and and we have very few AFL members so their stand is also empty.

So the sound of 35,000 gets lost somewhat.

In a smaller stadium 35,000 would look packed and be very loud.  I'm not in anyway suggesting we play elsewhere, just adding a different slant.

Did not Carlton V Sydney get about 45K in addition to the two you referred to?

Sorry yep, I missed that one as I was scanning through all the seasons crowd totals. That's the only game this season between a VIC side and an interstate side with more than 40,000.

Here's all of them...

R10 @ Marvel: Carlton v Sydney - 44,769

R2 @ MCG: Collingwood v Adelaide - 36,843

R5 @ MCG: Carlton v Port Adelaide - 33,433

R12 @ MCG: Melbourne v Sydney - 32,753

R2 @ Marvel: Essendon v Brisbane - 30,631

R11 @ MCG: Melbourne v Fremantle - 29,812

R7 @ MCG: Collingwood v Gold Coast - 28,916

R2 @ MCG: Richmond v GWS - 28,813

R4 @ Marvel: Collingwood v West Coast - 25,897

R8 @ Marvel: Carlton v Adelaide - 25,376

R4 @ Marvel: Essendon v Adelaide - 24,906

R3 @ Marvel: Bulldogs v Sydney - 24,327

R5 @ Marvel: Essendon v Fremantle - 23,935

R5 @ MCG: Melbourne v GWS - 20,791

R4 @ GMHBA: Geelong v Brisbane - 20,505

R7 @ GMHBA: Geelong v Fremantle - 20,136

R11 @ GMHBA: Geelong v Adelaide - 19,051

R5 @ Marvel: St Kilda v Gold Coast - 18,724

R10 @ GMHBA: Geelong v Port Adelaide - 18,721

R2 @ Marvel: North v West Coast - 14,204

R6 @ Mars: Bulldogs v Adelaide -10,412

R10 @ Mars: Bulldogs v Gold Coast - 6,040

Personally, for a non "Big 4"  (🙄) club , I don't think our crowds vs Sydney & Freo were too bad.

GWS was ordinary, but they have zero fans, so that'd cut the crowd size by probably 5,000.

Regarding demon fan noise, to be fair vs Freo and Swans there was little to cheer about after half time in both games.

There were a massive number of turnovers and we kicked 1 goal and 2 goals respectively after half time while Freo kicked 12 goal and the Swans 4 .  There weren't even many 'exciting moments' in play.  I love the noise when our handball chain gets going along the wing or when Kozzie gets anywhere near the ball or an opponent.  Or when a 50/50 free goes our way.  Or when a player gets 'out the back' or runs and bounces to an open goal.

Chants peter out very quickly when after a few attempts the momentum is still with the opps.

In both games dees fans went into their shell after half time.  Its very hard to be energised when the momentum is all the other way.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
