Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think Christian's comments are an indication that he is open to the wider debate (beyond MFC). He is responding to the notion that overall crowd figures are down. He is giving the broad player perspective that big crowds fire up the players. He wants bigger crowds.

Listen to the clip - he is clearly talking specifically about Melbourne supporters.

The Sydney crowd number and noise were a disappointment.

The Freo however was not. In a 4:35 time slot we broke our home attendance record against them. Our best ever crowd at the G against them in a graveyard time slot is a fantastic result.

I've been to every game at the G this year and despite winning most of them, I don't think there have been many "enjoyable" games to be perfectly honest. We tend to win by having one really good quarter and three very dour quarters. I often leave feeling that we should have won by much more or that we weren't playing at our best. It sounds so entitled to say when we're sitting 10-2 on top of the ladder but it's true. We've only managed three scores over 100 this year and two were against North and West Coast. When you combine that with the poor weather, horrible ticketing practices, having to always wait half an hour for the train, yeah I get it.

On another note, can’t have a go at supporters not being there every week as if they don’t have lives outside of attending live football. The poll in this thread is petulant whinging. I’m not special, but none of those reasons are why I don’t attend every game. We’ve got 12 games at the G throughout the season and I’ll probably get to 9. That number will decrease over the next few years due to very young children. Family and sometimes other commitments are simply more important than attending a live football game.

I consider myself a diehard supporter and I’ve sat through probably minimum 8 live Dees games every year since about 1990. Most of those games have been losses and last decade was excruciating. If someone wants to have a go at me not attending every week and say I’m not a true supporter then they’re welcome to… right before I knock their lights out.

I can agree with most of that LT.

freo was 10k more than i expected, and 10k more than the average

sydney was at least 10k less than i expected, but on our average vs them

we simply do not have a large supporter base - our conversion of supporters to members is excellent, and at the top of the league from memory

Is it possible that I (an MFC member who attends) am being scolded for poor attendance by someone who was not at the game?

I was at the game. I've been to every game in Melbourne this year (including the North game at Docklands which some Melbourne supporters seem to think is played in China).

I'm not scolding you. I'm scolding the supporters who weren't there.

Why on earth would Tracc give a sh*it about opposition players being fired up by large crowds? He is clearly referring to Melbourne fans.

It doesn’t have to be either/or. You can have both. You can have a life outside of attending live football AS WELL AS attending live football. I do. 🙂

This is a terrible reason IMO.

We spent decades playing non-competitive football, but now after one magical year, we all set the bar at 2021 form and won’t accept anything less?

Meanwhile yes only three scores above 100 but another four in the 90s. That’s 7 of 12 games where we’ve scored 90+ (and an 8th game where we scored 87).

This is not good enough. We are winning, we are top of the ladder, and we are a legitimate flag contender this year. Those three things will not always be the case. We have generational talent who won’t be there forever. FFS, on Saturday night our captain, who may possibly end his career as the greatest ruckman of all time, played  stunning football the likes of which maost other talls cannot reproduce.

This reason for not attending is bullsh*t.

Couldn’t this simply be a case of many Melbourne supporters are waiting for September while supporters from most other clubs are playing for September?

Perhaps this will prove to be misguided arrogance, but let’s see how many tickets aren’t sold in September.

Petracca needs to be pulled from all media commitments to concentrate on his footy.

What a rubbish thing to say. Even if there is some truth to it, it's a brain-dead thing for a senior player to say (or any player) on radio.

This post genuinely makes me sick, and is a great reflection of the issues we have with our “supporter base”

really sorry it hasn’t been enjoyable enough for you. The coaches/playing group need to be scolded for the 10-2 start, on the back of a premiership:- due to not focusing enough on optimising your enjoyment levels.

can we do a mid season draft, and ship off 20-30k of our pretend supporters for die heart Rich/coll/ess supporters??

Wow you are fired up TU. I have spent 50 years going to games to watch one or two players but now I am in the older member group and going ain't as easy as it once was. So I pick my games, sad but true.

Very true - and a reason to avoid going in the first place. I found that the GA seating area allocated by the Club/Ticketek to Members is frustratingly poor as a spectator area, and thus I won't be going to the 'G any more this year.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
