In: BB
Out: T.Mac

We need to see BB & Weid in the same team.

T.Mac should be our medical sub. He is the best swingman that we have and makes the most sense for that role.

Weid did impact contests well, but he still can't clunk them because he doesn't have the Fritsch smarts to work his opponent over. He needs to read the play better and learn his opponents' tactics, so he stops getting spoiled or bumped in the contest. He's got every other attribute ticked off as a key forward except that. At least that is how it looks to me.

Brown should come in; he's a proven performer and is an excellent contested mark. He's still better than Weid

Very clever bbtb.

Ironically, his arms at training are in the same spot as when he was called for 'dissent' vs GWS, roughly waist height.

Very tough selection unless an injury or protocols happen.

I'm on the side of BBB coming straight back in.  He doesn't need to prove anything at Casey.

The question of who comes out is very tricky though.  My thoughts straight after the game was Weeds hadn't quite done enough, but after watching the third quarter again yesterday, I realised he was much better than I thought.  Several strong contested marks on the wings, marks which in modern footy are so very important.  His disposal was very good and capped it off with the late goal.  His first quarter was also handy.

We have to keep finding ways to improve.  Yes we know the BBB and TMac combo is effective.  We have also just won 3 games with TMac and Weeds.  I think we have nothing to lose but much to gain by having a look at what BBB and Weeds looks like.

Whatever the decision, there certainly won't be any outrage from me though.

After hearing Goodwin interviewed last night on radio and his press conference just then, there is absolutely no way Weideman will be dropped. Goody was glowing praise of Weid and no mention of McDonald

Seems like now they're wanting to invest more into Weids now.

Not as convinced as you about this mate.

I'm starting to wonder if the way he's talking about Weid since the post-match presser is more giving him encouragement as they prepare him for the blow of being dropped for Brown. Possibly also a little bit for supporters too given how much attention Weid seems to get.

I would like Weed to stay in. I thought his game against the Giants was one of his best for the club yet.

He presented well and took marks and was involved in the spoil down to Spargo, to ANB for a goal among other things. He doesn't deserve to be dropped and needs consistent game time to see how far his upside is.

Having said that Tarrant will be too strong for him, so .......

No chance McDonald will be dropped

Who knows what the match committe knows that we don't, nor what long term plans they might have.  But I'd ask those who say Brown should work back and prove himself in the VFL like any other player, would they apply that if the other player was Trac or Max or Oliver?

Barring reasons related to recovery from injury, I'd have them straight in.  Personally I think Brown is in that class (though probably at the bottom of that class).

With Grimes out the Tiges defence is struggling and Brown would be a no brainer for me...

No vacancy, No change.

Definately a vacancy! definately a change! BBB To come in for either of the two UNDERPERFORMING Forwards in T.Mac or Weideman. The key responsibility of a for a key forward is to kick goals, BBB is proven. T.Mac not performing, Weeds has 4 in one game and 1 in another 2 NOT GOOD ENOUGH. I dont care what other factors are at play in selection, the overated clearing space and bring it to the ground. You are there in the team to kick goals. NO BRAINER I would have thought.

After listening to Goody I would say there will be no change.

Have now finished a reasonably detailed watch of the replay paying particular attention to Weidemans's game.

It wasn't great but there were probably ten times when he put himself in a marking position and failed. Now if he could have taken half of those grabs the debate would be over.

On the other hand TMac seemed to have less chances and made a better fist of marking when the opportuntiy arose.

I'm sure the coaches will be playing the tapes of each player against the other.

My guess is that Weideman will be given the nod simply because he offers more upside. How may weeks will he get to show form. I don't know but it will probably be at least two but I suspect that he will be given a few non negotiables if he wished to keep his place

Weid can't mark. He is a two grabber. Its his fatal flaw.

maybe its confidence, maybe he just can't do it.

It is what it is. And BB comes back in. His marks and gut running are gold. Oh and he kicks straight too..

After listening to Goody (twice) I have no idea if he was pumping up Weid because he is in, or because he was trying the lessen the blow of leaving him out.

The only way BBB doesn’t get selected is if they’re simultaneously punishing Brown for getting rubbed out in a meaningless VFL game while rewarding T Mac and Weid for playing in 3 good wins in a row.

Surely if BBB is in our best 22, he gets selected?

I would be shocked if T-Mac was dropped.

Not true based on the evidence thus far in 2022

Big improvement this season has been his one grab marking

Hmm, can't say I agree. Sam gets his hands to quite a few but then drops the mark. Sometimes he is the only one with his hands on the ball. He really needs to do better ... he has been on the list for at least 6 years.

Jacko drops a few too, but he has improved considerably, and will keep doing so. (Not at all concerned about him.)

Not necessarily. Goodwin on Sportsday this week tallked about Weid doing well within a period of the last 3 weeks, but not indicating specifically in each game.  Glowing wasn't my take on it.

A bit like " damned by faint praise".

He's valued but can't yet fit in to a 2 man tall foward structure, which Goody categorically confirmed in the Presser that 3 into 2 won't go.

Brown's a definite with Grimes out. Tmac or Weid will suit me fine but not against a better defence.

Goody proved to me last year that he doesn't play favourites and selects the best team available.  I thought it was a weakness of his but not now. Your last sentence BBP is spot on  IMO.

Thus weid misses out because i think Tmac gets the nod for his other work around the HFF and wing, plus he's top notch at breaking packs open.

The whole TMac or Weid debate is too hard.

Soooo, get creative, drop them both and bring in Brown and VanRooyen.

And to the first post of Seriously???

No.

Everyone is assuming that BBB and either of McD or Weid is the best combo going forward. What about Mich Brown? He is a better mark than the latter 2 and he certainly hits the scoreboard. I have not heard any negative commentary on his defensive skills and he is not lazy. I think his last match he had over 30 possessions against I think his former club.

Not sure if you saw Mitch Brown's last match on the weekend but from my perspective it was certainly not a performance that would have the selectors discussing him for AFL selection

His previous match against his former team (Essendon) he started ok then was hit behind the play just after 1/4 time and never returned

The game I think you are referring to was against Sandringham where he kicked 7 goals playing in a team that won convincingly and he was opposed to a first year kid that is nowhere near ready for AFL selection

In short - no I think he is still behind BBB, TMac, and Weid as the tall options in F50. I would also suggest he could fall behind JVR by the end of the season if Van Rooyen continues to improve

Happy to disagree. Well not happy but I disagree.

And if you compare BBB's marking with Weid then there is no comparison.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
