I thought we had no rookie picks? They have to be delisted free agents? Mentha is the only rookie pick we can have with Farris-White departing.

Have a look at the contracts spread sheet on this website.  AMW is a category B so if he is upgraded there are 2 category B spots. ( the other for KFW delisting).   Hore is a category A rookie and they haven't yet given him a contract.  If they don't he is delisted and creates a category A vacancy.

I thought we already had 6 rookies but we only have 5 my mistake.

Yze may still get picked up. I wonder if Hore could be picked up as a DFA

B: Lever, May, McVee

HB: Rivers, McDonald, Salem

C: Windsor, Petracca, Langdon

HF: Pickett, Petty, Chandler

F: Fritsch, van Rooyen, Turner

FOLL: Gawn, Oliver, Viney

IC: Howes, Sparrow, Sharp, Melksham (rookie a), Pick 5

Casey

B: Mentha (rookie b), Adams, Moniz-Wakefield (rookie b)

HB: Bowey, DFA, Woewodin

C: Billings, Laurie, Brown (rookie a)

HF: Spargo, Kentfield (rookie a), Sestan (rookie a)

F: McAdam, Jefferson, Fullerton

FOLL: Campbell, Tholstrup, Pick 9

IC: Verrall (rookie a), Yze (rookie a), Parfitt (DFA)

I think they will have 3 or 4 players train on for the last spot on the list.

Sestan has resigned on the main list.

Where did you get this from it's not on the contracts list ?

From MFC mid September

MELBOURNE has locked in a quintet of young talent, with Andy Moniz-Wakefield, Kynan Brown, Will Verrall, Oliver Sestan and Luker Kentfield all signing new deals with the club.

The five players put pen to paper this week, extending their time in the red and blue until at least the end of 2025.

Yeah but far as I know they all signed as rookies. Dannyz saying Sestan is on the main list.

They've got a source at the club Rumplestiltskin, regularly posts tea that is later officially confirmed.

Id like to see Noah Rookie’d, he is a good size and has shown that he is a talented youngster, being an Yze I see it as repaying Adem in some small way for his great services to the Dees. We have more spots this year and can accommodate him and who knows he could be a ripper and it may help sway others in the years to come. I.e Dees respect the tradition of F/S’s.

That would absolutely be the very last reason that we'd pick him up

Would be an insult to Adem and Noah, IMO

Agree, Moonshadow.   Repaying for dad’s great service is absolutely NO reason to recruit anyone.  F/S must be on merit.  I seem to remember a ?Molloy in the 80s or early 90s who was a f/s and failed to deliver at all.

Is that re-signed not resigned?

It seems we might not have the space to bring in Noah….a pity as he seems to have some assets.

Disappointed that Noah didn't make the cut. I wonder if the club will consider throwing him a Casey lifeline.

That would have to work both ways as there could be other VFL clubs handier to his home. However, if he's really dedicated to playing for his father's club, he should go for it. It won't be the first time that someone has proved the judges wrong.

Some very good players have made it via the VFL pathway. Fritta springs to mind. Good luck to young Noah Yze if that's something he pursues.

IF McAdam chose, before list finalisation, to retire would there be a pathway to pick up Noah, IF our recruiters felt he was up to scratch ??

No, because Noah is not that good to be on an AFL list.

Exactly... not all will emulate their dads.

Fritta was a special case in that he had a back injury and took a few years off football. Not sure he even put himself into the draft at 18. He also starred in his year as a Casey player from game 1.

It's a hard ask to break into the AFL if you miss out on the 18 year old draft. Not impossible but very rare

SON OF A GUN FIRES IN PREMIER B

In his first game for Old Melburnians in Premier B, Noah Yze (the son of Richmond coach and ex-Melbourne forward Adem) starred with five goals in a best on ground display. Yze was released for the weekend from VFL side Casey due to the representative game against the SANFL. He proved to be a class above in the huge win as Jeremy a’Beckett also booted five. Old Melburnians prevailed by 94 points. Yze finished with 20 disposals, 16 contested possessions and five clearances. Other impressive performances came from Will Nichols (27 touches), Sam Laube (21 touches and three goals) and Jack Spargo (23 disposals). At VFL level this season, Yze has kicked four goals in three games.

IMO he has played well at Casey this year, attacks the ball well, good size, decent hands and goal sense. Could be worth a rookie spot.

Absolutely is, has potential to go into the middle as well, played a fair bit of last year as a tagger for the chargers.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
