It’s as if we weren’t playing that q for the umpires. They missed everything going out way. Port can’t keep that up all game. Should break open if we can maintain our structures.

That is one of the worst quarters I’ve seen of AFL. We’ve got the game on our terms, though didn’t have a great amount of rebound. This is going to be a slog.

Completely agree. That's half an hour of my life I'm never getting back.

The upside is that the next three quarters can't possibly be as dull as that...

Played on our terms but a pretty bog ordinary game of footy so far.

Hunt is playing a ripper and it’s nice to see Maxy clunking a few

We kept them goalless but again we missed opportunities.

Trac you are great but when you mark inside 50 don't turn your back, McDonald was on his own in the goal square and you ignored him.

Here's hoping for a good 2nd quarter. Take your chances. We are dominating, just not on the scoreboard.

We could be better. Where we are positioning our shots in the forward fifty needs more polish.

Port's intensity and pressure has been great but I really can't help but think we're letting them run at us a bit.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more bizarre display of umpiring in my life! Perhaps they are looking through the channel 7 camera which is filming the game from the other side of the river

Lol these umpires should be at Auskick next weekend.

Poor kids. What did they do to deserve that?

At the moment BB being sorely missed

Hunt's defensive acts are good but his disposal is awful.

So inconsistent

Jordon has been great.

Get ruthless in front of goals and we'll be right...

So I was worried about how Lever would come back, as he has not always been great 1st match back from a spell but I think he looks good so that is promising. Weid dropped a sitter am praying very hard for him. Our system down back look solid. Max is on fire with marking, best game this year. I have a feeling Viney is quite angry and is going to eat someone.

FMD Umpire...

Kossies timing is way off when trying to mark

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
