Brayshaw would be up there in BNF voting at this stage. He wants a good pay day, and he deserves it.

Do you have any evidence to suggest he hasn't been offered a good pay day?

Angus doesn't really strike me as the kind of bloke who would put off negotiations purely on wanting more money.

W.A go home factor: 1-1, thus far = Tingay stayed, Farmer went. I am putting down Big Bob Johnson and Hassa Mann as irrelevant, they didn't go home they just went.

Big fan of Gus' and he's putting together a brilliant year which vindicates the choice to delay signing.

In 2 recent interviews (Big Freeze and Gus and Gawny) he's seemed very uncomfortable when asked about his contract though. It may be that he's just that way when talking about these things, but for a bloke that is usually quite eloquent I get the feeling there is something to hide here. It may be that he is just searching to maximise his deal or perhaps the option to play with his brother is getting more consideration than we'd like to think would be possible.

Tingay was from Shepparton, not WA.

Who do we think offers more as a first choice on baller  Viney or Brayshaw?

My suspicion is protecting Gus RE: Concussion and keeping him on the park has been part of the decision to get him more on the outside, as well as his obvious quality on the inside and outside.

I think as inside bulls they are close to on par with each other with possibly Brayshaw shading Viney offensively and Viney shading Gus defensively.

However Viney complements Oliver and Trac better than Brayshaw would.

Brayshaw as he has shown offers high quality versatility in role both wing and half back that Viney does not possess.

My read on Gus is he cares more about winning, legacy and team culture than being the man and/or $$$ in a middling group. As long as he is fairly compensated I reckon post new CBA this will sort itself out.

If he chooses to go elsewhere for whatever reason then best of luck to him. He has given his all for the MFC, been through dark times individually and collectively and will always be known as a key reason we were 2021 premiers.

Yes I have tape recordings….

No, he’s just at the stage of his career where this is probably the last big contract he has and his most important one from an earning capacity.

Haha fair.

I just can't imagine a scenario where the club has under-offered so much to Gus that he's put off talks in the hopes of more money magically appearing from somewhere based on form.

Brayshaw and Jackson this year, Oliver the next.

Factoring in the current money they’re on. Then the following players contracts :

2022 Hibberd & Melk, both reitre

2023 May, will be 31, possibly play on but he’s had his payday and you’d assume he’d be on a lot less.

2024 Brown & Tmac, both will be 32 and that might see them both out.

Obviously we’re drafting players in who would be on minimum money / trading players who may take less to be at the club, all part of the ongoing circle. But in short there’s enough for all of our stars to have their payday unless off course a rival clubs offer something ridiculous and one of our players choose to take it.

There's no reason to assume these 3 players will suddenly drop off.

Surely the situation is that no offer has been made. Isn't that what "defers contract talks" means?

Don't know the ins and outs of this particular one, but would have thought contract talk was ongoing between agents and clubs and not left until the last minute to start talking about. I've always thought that deferring contract talks means they weren't happy with where discussions were at or the ongoing talks weren't proving fruitful so parties decided to put it on hold and revisit later on.

If I recall correctly, the reports very early in the year were talks had started and Dees had started making an offer.

Gus' constant shy-boy cheek scratch and light junkie arm scratches (jeez, you'd think he caught cooties off of Goodwin) make it impossible to tell which ones are genuine tells.

We wanted to see him improve his defensive game, we loved what he did on offense but he simply didn't work hard enough the other way and would fade out of games completely as a result.

The dogs offered him job security and more consistent games in the seniors so pretty easy decision for all involved there

Fortunately for MH he got to be there on the day when the team that drafted him had the ultimate success

I agree. I hold no issues with his going to the bullies. It was a rational decision for him. It says something though that he would not have made the Dees GF side. He will not be the only one over the next 3 years….

I’m not following sorry, which 3?

Jeff Farmer before that.

I think that’s all he is holding out for

Every team has to give up 3 senior players ( do not think a rookie counts) . Hibberd  ( prob. becomes a rookie ) Melksham delisted

Chandler traded , Weidman traded  and Brayshaw  traded ( a second rounder ) We need to have enough to pay for Jackson.

Try again.

Tim Gossage (who knows the Brayshaws) reckons Brayshaw would like to live in WA where his brothers and grand parents live.

However his girlfriend is dead against a move.

Girlfriend trumps brother and grandparents.
He lives with her. They aren’t a casual relationship.

Brayshaw, probably seen as the more expendable player compared to the likes of Oliver and Petracca, is moving himself into the must re-sign category. Has been one of our best this year and is so versatile that he excels in most positions.

Get it done dees.

We have inside midfielder permanently in the backline. The way he attacks the ball and contest is almost redefining that half back role. He is giving us a huge run off half back by winning and distributing the ball. I would be shocked if he is moved when Salem is back.

Still haven’t figured out how it going to work though.

Horse manure. Tim Gossage? Are you kidding? Parochial Perth dimwit. Brayshaw wants to live near his grandparents? I may  die laughing. He's not going anywhere.

Good interview on the "Dyl and Friends" Podcast,  Gus says he loves the club and the boys.  and that its nothing, always a beat up over contract talks.  he didn't commit to the Dees but says how much he loves it there.

Gus is my favorite player but he is never going to get the role he like at the Dees.  Trac and Oliver in the midfield over him and sadly when Salem comes back he loses the back line role he has been playing too.  so it wouldn't be crazy to think he may want better opportunity especially if it comes with $$$ as he is on a good contract atm and i can't see the Dees being able to go above that or even able to match it again.

Time will tell and hopefully he stays

I think in the end it will be about family or staying with the club he loves. Doesn't strike me as a pure $ guy.

Makes sense to delay it to see if he can snag another flag. Maybe he'll hang in here with us with the lure of pulling off a trifecta then?

He was the rock in the grand final last year when we were challenged and his season has been fantastic this year. Makes sense to shut the noise out and sort it out at the end of the year.

Just love the bloke.
