Angus Brayshaw Re-Signs Until 2028

Am I missing something here? Everyone assumes that if he leaves it will only be to Freo to join his brother. I accept that he's not going to go to West Coast, but the market is not restricted to Fremantle. Accepting that, these Melbourne family vs Perth family vs where his girlfriend wants to live arguments are very simplistic.

Why are we talking about losing any players at all.

And what do you know that HQ or others maybe privy to ?

I suggest we all let nature take it's course and hope and pray that sanity prevails and the Team stays united as one.

Next thing I probably will read is all MFC players are moving to other Clubs and that Casey players are our number one Team... (Well if that happens we will still win the Premiership anyways ) . Come on guys let's support and encourage our playing group in the belief that they will be united as one.

You’re right. We should not be discussing matters relating to the footy club on a footy forum. Andy, shut her down. Nasher, turn the servers off and let the gerbils that run them, run free.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but not playing in the midfield, and playing with Melbourne where there is more support on the ground (less heavy lifting) would likely extend his career by a few years!!!!! Particularly with his concussion issues.  This also reduces financial differences over the entirety of his football career.

Also playing with your brother can be a negative as well. Not all siblings are best friends, or buddy buddy; and even when they do get on well - don't necessarily like sharing the same close friendship groups.

All the Brayshaw siblings are extremely close.

This has been well publicised and confirmed by Angus in the past.

Why the pejorative comment?  As someone who is “older” I find that quite offensive.

I just can't see Gus leaving. I listened to the Dyl & Friends podcast the other day and Angus was explaining that Danielle and her Mum and her sisters have been focusing a lot of their time and efforts into the Danny Frawley centre. Gus has most of his family here and same with Danielle so for Gus to move to WA just to be with his brothers doesn't make much sense to me.

Andrew Brayshaw comes out of contract in 2025 as a restricted free agent. Viney will be 31 and out of contract while Gawn and Levers deal will have expired creating even more salary space. No reason we can't flip the narrative on this story in the coming years and have a Brayshaw reunion at the dees.

Well, if he leaves as a 2-time premiership player at the end of this year, as much as it’d hurt, he’d have my blessing

From what I’ve heard he will sign and there’s a little bit of “I like the speculation” about the hold off…

OUT-OF-CONTRACT Melbourne star Angus Brayshaw is yet to put a timeline on when he will begin contract negotiations.

The 26-year-old is a restricted free agent, and has connections in the west, with brother Andrew playing for Fremantle.

He told AFL.com.au his recent move to defence has been his sole focus through the Demons' 10-0 start to the year but that he knew a crunch time was fast approaching.

"I could roll out any sort of cliché, you could take your pick. With that stuff, round one I got thrown into the backline, having prepared for the wing all pre-season. Very, very quickly, my focus has shifted from everything that surrounds football to how to play and execute this role," Brayshaw said.

"There are super high standards, we pride ourselves on our defence back there, so if I'm thinking about something else or not 100 per cent focused, you get found out pretty quickly. And that stuff just takes care of itself if you focus on your footy.

"I understand this is a reality and these things will probably start popping up soon, when I need to sit down and sort it out, but I'm in a good position, I think, off the back of 10 solid weeks of footy.

"I'll sit down – I don't know when that'll be – but I'll figure that out when it comes. I'm looking forward to getting it out of the way, because that's seems to be all anyone wants to know these days. What will be, will be."

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2022/05/25/star-dee-likely-to-stay-the-team-to-watch-in-the-trade-period-and-more/

Leading AFL journalist Callum Twomey has provided an update on a number of curious trade and contract situations around the league.

Melbourne star Angus Brayshaw, North Melbourne forward Cam Zurhaar, Gold Coast’s strong draft hand and more all analysed.

See his update below:

Angus Brayshaw (Melbourne)

“He’s put off talks for the first half of the year, but obviously been really good for the Dees in that role across half-back,” Twomey told SEN Breakfast.

“He’s looking forward to getting it out of the way, because that’s all anyone wants to talk about. I think that’s a pretty good sign in what lies ahead for him at the Demons.

“Still no timeline, but I think there’s a strong likelihood that he’ll be at the Dees next year. He’s a restricted free agent, but Melbourne has its bye in Round 14 … I’d expect some movement by then.”

As someone who is old AF, I object to the word  ' old '

Can we replace it with the words ' more experienced ' ??

Thank you !!!

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
