I love the Friday night game concept! All AFL fans will tune for a real game after yet another Carlton Richmond blockbuster fizzer.

I don't really care who we play so long as it draws an audience. I want to be there for the unfurling 🏆

You along with another 50,000 members, then there’s the lapsed members who’ll want to be there.

Even if the flag unfurling is scheduled against a low pulling opposition crowd (gws, gc, freo), there’d still be at least 60,000 at the game just to see the flag unfurled.

Could be another fizzer if the boys take up where they left off.
And there's nothing to say they won't.

I would rather play a team coming off the same AFL mandate rest period and training schedule (Bulldogs) than one that has had over a month more Training loads and system based training development.

Who iam i kidding who cares who we play, the players will want a W that night and send out a msg to the League that we want to live it all again in 2022.

Demons are the heavyweight champions who made the other premiership ‘contenders’ last finals campaign look like a bunch of bantam weights.  When the “live” show arrives at the ‘G’ next season enjoy. Come rain or shine whoever.

Assuming if it's at the G, it'll be one of our home games.

In which case, surely the club would rather pull 80k than have a low drawing interstate team and have 60k.

The AFL is averse to playing GF replays  in round 1, so while it may happen it’s no certainty.

Would be a fantastic way to open the season though- Our first Friday night game at the G since 2019.

Alternatively we could play the Cats and stuff their confidence early in the season.

As our home game though. I don’t think we have had a hole game v these druggies since before they were caught out.

Yes home games of course to unfurl the flag.  Big 90000 back at the G 🏆

Adelaide will have massive improvement this year. Burgess is a huge get.

I think (hope) it will take a couple of seasons for his benefits to come thru.

We are the away team for both QB and Anzac eve so no $$ there.

Need Essendon and Carlton home games at the MCG in the first six rounds preferably. (While their fans think they have a chance in 2022)

TBH Bulldogs won't deliver  a high number of away fans which is where you make the money. Also it will get its own Friday night status when played. Why would you share that TV coverage with a Thursday night game

Spot on. The smart decision commercially. Which pays the bills doesn't it?  Could guarantee a 90K crowd possibly with the above suggested teams.

I’m really hoping there’s been some discussion on this as both years we’ve been home teams we’ve been screwed out of good crowds. Maybe not so much the ANZAC eve last year but certainly QB we barely would’ve got two 5 cent pieces to rub together. That’s on top of the Alice Springs games being taken away.

Either way we do need to maximise our exposure to get the best $$$$ we can get.

Sorry Cassie, but this is old MFC mentality. Relax. We are now the reigning premiers; the best footy club in the world. We got there with a group who has faced every challenge without qualm. If the AFL schedules us to play Footscray and Geelong at the same time, on the moon, I would give us a sniff.

Bring it on.

A lot of great teams have faltered in the first round. It take a while to get into gear again. Remember we beat reigning premiers North in the opening round in 1997 then won only 3 more games.

Richmond have been slow starters each year after their premierships, the only thing that’s ensured them getting the W in round one is that they keep playing the Blues.

I think facing the dogs definitely has the advantage of coming up against a team that’s had the exact same preparation time.

QB unlikely away given we haven't had a chance to do it at home for 2 years.

If we played dogs first game would it lead to us playing them twice? Probably wouldn't matter but I'd prefer the double game against a bottom side.

One thing for sure Dees fans from everywhere will come out of the woodwork to see the flag unfurled. So looking fwd to 2022 season with the curse being crushed. Back to back baby.

I reckon it's a huge psych edge on them as well, we smash them in the grand final, and then start begging to play them round one. it's gotta impact the dogs mentally a bit.

i see a cats vs Hawks type rivalry forming between the two teams.

There already is 😆

I'm all for this idea, I think it will have a fantastic atmosphere to it and would be a great way to kick off season 2022.

I don't understand how people are concerned that this Melbourne won't bring the heat, but somehow the Doggies will.

Given our 2021 season, and how overwhelmingly good we were in the finals we should all have complete and utter faith that this team will perform no matter the occasion, venue, team or time.

Any team. Anywhere. Anytime.

Go Dees!

Haven't you heard?

We sang a song they like, and the Dogs are furious!

Can't see us beating them until we apologise.

That’s the thing. If any round of the season is one where they need to size up opponents and readjust and test the opponents it’s round 1

Lets face it ..... Gawn dived.
And Daniel probably just called him out on it rather than the stand over tough guy act it's portrayed as.

I think this is perfect!

gets us up and about. If we lose it’s a wake up call Round 1; if we win we roll the momentum on.

mindset is our biggest risk in 2022, maybe alongside injuries. This helps remove complacency from day 1.

go demons!

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
