I am actually surprised West Coast haven't offered pick 2# (which will become pick 3#) in the 2022 AFL Draft for Luke Jackson.

Especially as they are desperate for talent and Luke Jackson could team up with Nik-Nat.

My only theory is West Coast wanna split pick 2# and with 2 first round picks or 1 first round pick and a player (a Victorian on their list) make an offer to Melbourne along those lines instead? Otherwise, they simply aren't serious about beating Fremantle to get Luke Jackson's services.

I am happy to cheekily ask Fremantle for a first round pick and Hayden Young in exchange for Luke Jackson though! In the end Fremantle will need to exchange quality to obtain quality. It's as simple as that.

Adelaide got more than market value. His best and fairest results and need for the team to play a particular structure for him to shine proves that

You severely overrate draft picks.

Look up the 2017 and 2018 drafts.

With all of the benefit of hindsight, choose 2 players that would have been available to us (i.e.  pick 10 or later (2017) and 19 or later (2018)). See if you can come up with a better pair than Lever and Petty.

Lever is a cornerstone of the best defence in the business. He had a down year, but his b & f results prove nothing other than the fact that he's been injured for a fair chunk of 3 out of 5 seasons at MFC.

I think I've worked out Peter Bell's approach to trading....

A man walks into a luxury car yard and tells the salesman, "I'll take the red Ferrari"

The salesman tells him that will be 250K.

Peter Bell opens up his wallet.  "I've only got $20 - that will have to do"

I don’t get the feeling freo are being serious. We should ask for a player. Serong or Young perhaps

First positions in bargaining are all about anchoring perceived value.  Lets see what drops at the end.  Freo are going to want LJ pretty badly (imagine if WC steal him away!). Think they will pony up.

I think this will be a later deal as it hinges on so many other things.  If Grundy is worth 25, what is this fella worth???

If Freo were so keen on Jackson and from years out - they should have prepared themselves to get him. We should tell LJ that Freo are unwilling to put together a package and it’s WCE or you’re coming back to Melbourne for a year.

Not ideal for us, but two mid teen picks is just a terrible return.

There's always posturing at the beginning of trade week.  Freo offering two firsts is predictable and a reasonable start.  It will progress.

I really do think Lever's body has let him down and stopped him playing the football he's capable of.  At his best he's fantastic in his intercept role.  Clubs spend a heap of time trying to combat the Lever/May duo.  Lever has many years left and if he can overcome these persistent niggling injuries he'll show his worth again.

Don't care if it's a later trade as long as we stoke that West Coast fire. Split that pick!

Freo seem to be a stubborn bunch of [censored]. Do they honestly think they will land a 200cm generational ruckman with two late firsts? They do not grow on trees.

If they can't give us the picks they will have to trade a quality youngster like Serong or Young at least along with their pick 13/14. We give back Jackson and a 2nd or 3rd rounder

Clearly they don’t have the picks or desire to obtain the picks to get it done.

Counter offer asking for Young and this years First round for Jackson

That counter offer will get turned down by Freo in 5 seconds.

No chance Freo are offering Young as he just signed through to 2027 and is a key piece to their future success.

No chance Young would agree to a trade considering he's chosen to stay in Perth and the league is not yet at a stage where clubs are willing to trade contracted players against their will.

Assuming he gets to Freo, it will be this years first rounder, next year's first rounder and a current or future second or third rounder IMO.

I don't mind the idea of a future first being involved. With a strong draft and no guarantee Freo will succeed again next year.

Yeah I believe the medics have him doing this weird 360° angry-spinning exercise which is supposed to help all that.

He is not coming back, he has decided to leave and is out of contract.   We have nothing to hold him to

I’m with you on that, there is no guarantees Freo will be a top 8 side next year

Assuming he’d prefer to remain at the Dees than go to the PSD.

Exactly.

Posters needs to remember that he's out of contract and we basically have to accept what ever reasonable rather than generous offer that comes our way.

Two mid first rounders and a second or third rounder will be our recompense for Jackson IMO.

North on the other hand can ask for the world as JHF is under contract and the club has no obligation to to trade him.

Aware of that, but if he is keen on Freo - they have not so far indicated they will provide fair value for him. Then he has a decision to make - go to WCE or pull back entirely and let Freo get there [censored] together next year.

If Freo are offering this years first along with next years at this stage of the negotiation then you would assume they will go further. Assume they get norths future second. In a strong draft that future second is a good pick. Probably as good or better than a late first round this year.
It would be enough to get the deal done imo.
Sure we want a top 10 pick but we are the masters of moving up the board so perhaps it’s best to get the picks freo are offering ( plus a future second of north) and move il ourselves. We may be eyeing a top 5 pick and it may make more sense to get the Jackson deal done now so we can try and move up the board before others start swapping picks.

I can't believe people are (a) surprised and (b) complaining about getting two first round picks for Jackson.

We have no bargaining power in this deal, and even less so if North commit to using PSD pick 1. Would people prefer Jackson walks to West Coast in the PSD?

The Lever deal is absolutely comparable and the Fremantle offer is slightly better than what we gave Adelaide.

I'd be taking the two picks today and moving on to other things.

That’s how it works they come in ridiculous so we respond with something equally viewed by them as not acceptable and walk away to talk with others around potential scenarios

Don't be so picky.

Jake had a wonderful 2021 when he was fit and we won theFlag.
That's what we bought him and Maysie for. Just back in the vision we had and it's not over yet Jake still has 5 more years probably ( due to fitness) to advance our Trophy  Cabinet.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
