Farewell Luke Jackson

Sorry but that would not be a good deal for us IMO.

Compare  mine as a minimum. Treacy, Meek and a top 5 pick that guarantees us Cadman or Jefferson.

If we also get Grundy, we have then hopefully solved our key forward and ruck issues for the next several years.

You add Treacy and Cadman/Jefferson, to JVR and still have BBB and Tom for another year or two. You extend Max’s career using Grundy more of the time and gave him fresh for finals and have Meek as the backup.

If we do get Grundy, we may prefer another player or pick instead of Meek. Could then use that pick in the draft or on a trade or to improve next years pick in a suggested better draft.

We could then rookie another ruckman as the backup.

Freo don't have a top 5 pick. While they could trade up for a higher pick, we will lose value to achieve this.

Gold Coast fought tooth and nail to get a top 10 pick from Hawthorn for O'Meara and St Kilda did a great trade for them in order to broker the deal.

Conversely, the Cats took a number of lower picks from WCE for Kelly, which, in aggregate, added up to more than pick 1 in value and was a better deal.

I would prefer we take a collection of lower picks and let our brains trust work out how to push up or down the draft board. Brokerage is expensive in the AFL system.

It is as simple as this; if they want Jackson that badly they WILL find a way!

As long as Jackson doesn’t go public with his intentions. Eg If Cerra had nominated us we would have got him cheaper than the pick 6 the blues paid. I think Jackson, go or stay loves the club and will do his best w his manager  to see it’s a fair deal.

Sam Edmund on SEN today.

Luke Jackson (Melbourne)

“West Coast believe they’re still in the hunt for Luke, so we cannot rule out the Eagles.

“Fremantle are seen to be the frontrunner there, that might still be the case, but the Eagles maintain they’re still in the race for the WA-born ruckman.

“Luke Jackson’s gone, let’s just state that as fact.”

My view on worthwhile compensation is if it just picks, it needs to be pick 3 or earlier + a mid first rounder

He is worth significantly more than pick 3.

Don't care what Freo/WC have right now, that is the price. Trade Lobb, do whatever to get the picks

I hear you and actually agree, my comment was made with an element of tongue in cheek

Love him while he is with us, if he makes a move away from us, I certainly won’t be wishing him well, particularly when he plays against us. Hopefully will be loving him for a few more years

Firstly, I’m assuming Dogga is leaving. Secondly, I’ve been thinking West Coast have always been a chance, just because they have the pics. For this reason, for much of the year I have been wanting North to finish bottom, so West Coast don’t have pick 1. Pick 1 hasn’t been traded for ages. Fingers crossed we can get our hands on pick 2 or 3!

Well Logue might be on the move and he is a WA player. Clear him and their first pick for pick 2 from Eagles. Then give us that, Treacy and Dogs first pick for Lobb and we are starting the conversation. That would guarantee Cadman, if he is that good and then get a good player with the Dog’s pick.

Get Grundy and key forwards and rucks issues are solved. Rookie another ruck as insurance and we are tracking well. Weid might be involved in Grundy deal and we then have JVR, Cadman, Treacy and BBB and Tom for a year or two more.

We essentially solve all problems with 2 deals. Grundy in and Jacko out, with key forwards and picks in.

Two key players in that draft pick conundrum might be South Australians Isaac Keeler (197cm) and Harry Barnett (202cm) who are both capable of being developed as key forwards or ruckmen. Together with JVR, they would provide us with the next generation tall timber to replace Jackson and cover for the coming retirements of Ben Brown and Tom McDonald.

LJ could easily walk to WCE were he so inclined.

No way would North pay $1M per year for a player who wants to be in WA.

Beware the Western squeeze.... They can be a strange lot over there

While true, surely the afl don't let that happen.

Would make a mockery of the system

Apparently on SEN before Friday night's game Nathan Jones mentioned that he thinks Jackson may have changed his mind about leaving.

Anyone hear this?

Would be interested to hear this. I am sure Jonesy is still in serious contact with his Teammates.
Performances like Friday night must only help our cause.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
