If he can't make up his mind he could just leave it to fate - advise the club that if Freo can find a suitable trade then he will go, but otherwise happy to add a one-year extension so we can hold on to him until we pick up both the McKay twins as free agents at the end of 2023.

But the big bucks (and long contract) are already (allegedly) being offered. Things could go wrong in those two years. There’s no way his manager would give him the advice you suggest.

For his professional development Jackson would be best served stay at Melbourne and learn under Gawn. I wonder how much that factors into his decision making. The lure of home is obviously strong and if is that he wants to go home then he will. For his football it'd be better to stay at the Dees till free agency when it'd be unlikely Dees would stand in his way even if he was a restricted free agent. He'd be more the finished article returning to a Freo he'd hope would be finished list building and ready to contend.

Never really one to run with sources but I've heard from one who claims to have heard that LJ is flip flopping all over the place on this. Like a bit of a scatter-brain Jane.

Papley still had 3 years to run on a contract, so that’s a very different  argument

Correct.

Still what happens if Demons go Freo can’t come up with a satisfactory trade. Then we deal with WC for their pick 2 plus a second ruck!

Fanciful thinking.

They will get a deal done

Just watched Max’s full Press Conference

He wants his mate to stick around

I wonder if that is to calm the masses and the media.

Yes, I think that is the strategy. The group seem to have bunkered down into a - let's win this premiership mindset...it's time to focus on footy

We had a report from a poster saying that Goody and Max had met Grundy. If it's true, does Max really think that Jackson will stay?

Max's intention is to take as much outside pressure off Jackson for the remainder of the year.

We need to ensure we get enough 2nd/3rd round picks from Freo to grab the points require to satisfy Brisbane for their 1st rounder

You always needs a plan B, imagine if we did nothing and he left with only Max as our ruck stock.  We need to continue to improve our list next year or teams will go past us.

We met with Cerra and apparently did the best PowerPoint presentation since Colin Powell to the UN in 2003.

You plan for scenarios and get ready to pull triggers.

I think Max's comments were brilliant but are as much about putting an arm around Luke and showing that he supports him either way, as they are about trying to sway his decision. Great leadership,  but I don't know whether it changes my view on the situation all that much. Last time the media were so sure about a player leaving us Tom Scully had just held a press conference telling us he wanted to be a one club player.

And so you are suggesting we get Brisbanes, Freo's and Doggies first round picks for 2022? Which would be something like Picks 10,13,14. We could then then swap picks 10,14 for WC pick 2/3? Effectively giving us first dibs at a KPF and KPD / Ruck prospect.

So Freo give us pick 10,13 and 2nd rounder for LJ (Pick 10 for Lobb - which seems a bit overs). We then use our 2nd rounder, 3rd rounder + Freo's 2nd rounder for Brisbane's 1st.

Thats a pretty good outcome if you ask me. But a lot of ifs and buts.

I've crunched the numbers and that's exactly what I'm saying

I thought Mark Neelds coaching power point was quite impressive

Jackson has to agree to go to WCE we don't have the power to trade him there without his consent.

Grundy will be 29 next year.

If they pay half or more of his salary and you think we are in a 3-5 year window it can make sense

As if they would meet Grundy the week when Melb v Coll play the biggest game of the season against each other

Don't believe everything you hear

Between this, and the other messages from the club in the last week, I think we've got a clear strategy on how to manage this. Radical empathy.

We're not going to pressure the kid. It's his decision and we'll put a case forward at negotiations, but more importantly he is part of the team and enjoys being here. If he leaves that next year fine, but while he is here enjoy it.

This demonstration of cultural excellence and empathy, is a big counter offer in itself when the other club and media are heaping pressure on you.

Well said Deanox, think that's pretty much on the money.

Freo don't have any 2nd or 3rd round picks this year. Yet.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.

  • CASEY: Collingwood

It was freezing cold at Mission Whitten Stadium where only the brave came out in the rain to watch a game that turned out to be as miserable as the weather.
The Casey Demons secured their third consecutive victory, earning the four premiership points and credit for defeating a highly regarded Collingwood side, but achieved little else. Apart perhaps from setting the scene for Monday’s big game at the MCG and the Ice Challenge that precedes it.
Neither team showcased significant skill in the bleak and greasy conditions, at a location that was far from either’s home territory. Even the field umpires forgot where they were and experienced a challenging evening, but no further comment is necessary.
